Agreed.
I couldn't tell you how many times I did the DTCM in GT4, over and over, just to get 900k credits with an hour and a half of racing. I would then blow that money on random cars just to have fun.
If you look at the 'grinding' as a waste of time, then you might not want to play a racing game after all, since the whole damn game is 'grinding', technically.
No, grinding is the created necessity to repeat already accomplished tasks numerous times to progress.
A lot of the early game is not grinding, it is simply playing the game. A few tries here and there doing something you haven't already done and you are through, once you have accomplished a race, you don't need to do it again to progress.
When you hit the grind wall and CANNOT progress to new challenges without going back and redoing things you have already done, over and over THAT is grinding.
One is doing to accomplish it, the other is being forced to do what you have already accomplished repeatedly.
As for doing DCTM in GT4, that's fine becuase it's your choice to do it. If you happen to really like doing loops on Indy over and over, then you are in luck, there is no grind for you!
For the other 99% percent of people it's a grind.
The difference is whether you would choose to do it or whether you have to becuase there is no other feasible way.
I have played Mario World dozens if not hundred of times through... that means I have beaten world 3-2 countless times, and it's all fine because I wanted to each time for fun.
Now if the game was setup so that after beating world 3-1 you had to beat world 3-2 120 time before moving onto world 3-4, would you argue that since I have played world 3-2 voluntarily a hundred times over the years anyway that being forced to do 3-2 120 times between 3-1 and 3-3 isn't grinding?
