Compared to...well that other guy that he'll be team mates with.
I think Haryanto has the potential to surprise. Some of his performances in GP2 were pretty impressive - like the sprint race at the Red Bull Ring last year; he held off Stoffel Vandoorne for ages. Anyone who can defend against a driver like Vandoorne like that can't be half-bad. Especially in a Campos, which was about the fifth-best team (after ART, DAMS, Racing Engineering and Rapax) at the best of times. I think Haryanto just got a little shafted by his move to Barwa Addax, since Alejandro Agag was more interested in Formula E.

Yeah but that's the same argument in essence to the other oil backed driver that has finally gotten kicked off the grid. I mean I hope the guy can drive well and not take up the helm that was left behind by other pay drivers.

So long as Haryanto doesn't deliberately drive into another car (I still maintain Maldonado was provoked, hence explaining why he got away with a rap on the knuckles), he should be fine.

I'd rather him be the next Chilton than Pastor if so then yeah it's whatever I can't hate a guy who actually keeps a car on the road and tries. To me he seems more collected than Pastor and with some of his performances (though not consistent) I think he'll bring some fight to the back of the grid. If the car is worth the tail end of points, then even better for us who watch him and Wehrlein

I'm trying hard not to be overly patriotic here, and to keep in mind that Rio is a pay driver (a concept that I hate so much, but is virtually unavoidable these days unless you get picked by a driver development programme early). But I think the kid's got some potential honestly. He's not Jules Bianchi material, but he's no Alex Yoong either.

I think he's got good situational awareness too - just look at 1.10 in this vid. Most drivers in GP2 would probably try to block and crash.

Whatever happens, it'll be awesome to see the red and white flag finally in F1 :D Just don't be embarrassing please  Getting partnered with someone like Wehrlein will be a good benchmark.

Meanwhile, McLAREN HAVE A NEW SPONSOR - they've done a deal with Richard Mille, a watchmaker who have a presence in GP2 and GP3 with ART Grand Prix.

And somebody from Honda is having fun, building on the cryptic "blue" Tweet from a while ago, leading to rumours of a tie-in with Samsung as the Galaxy S7 is being launched in Barcelona on the same day as McLaren launch the MP4-31.

I'm an English teacher. I can't stop being complex. Although I am glad that someone picked up on that little bit of wordplay.
Better than being complex as a psychology teacher...
Being in college I actually understand this! I feel oddly satisfied now.

I thought you randomly drew a number, usually from a hat :P

What about #45 for Lotterer and Stevens?

It's a 2 year reserve on numbers. 45 was last used in 2014, so it would be available for this season if a driver wished to use it. Not that it makes any difference anyways as I believe the team picked that number and not the driver.

What about #45 for Lotterer and Stevens?
That was a number assigned to the team. Each team gets two reserve number, which are assigned based on the first two available, sequential numbers. Red Bull get #15 and #16, while Mercedes get #23 and #24 and so on and so forth. It came up because Alexander Rossi wanted to use #16, but was told that it was a Red Bull reserve number. Originally, test and reserve drivers raced under the team numbers, but that changed last year (it just wasn't publicised since it was such a minor change).

Makes sense - Honda clearly want to develop some Japanese talent, and Matsu****a was the most impressive rookie of 2015. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an Aguri-style B-team in 2017.

Cool to see Matsu****a get a shot. I would be really excited to see a Honda B team next year...the more the merrier :)
