It's only an Indy Lights gig though with a chance at an Indy ride next year.

I still say Stefan just has a case of sour grapes, but that's for the Indy thread.
 
I don't see where it says he's racing in Indy Lights. Just that he's helping them with testing and development and racing in Indycar in 2016.

He may have a point in this case. When was the last time anyone said "Do you know who is missing from this grid? Max Chilton."? He's little more than a rich kid who fancied himself a raving driver, and so his place in Formula 1 was little more than wish fulfilment. When Andrei Cheglakov lost interest in throwing money down the drain, it was the Chiltons who kept Marussia afloat when by rights, he shouldn't have been in GP2 in the first place. His presence on the grid was symptomatic of everything that is wrong with Formula 1 - a sport so expensive that money trumps talent and where the teams won't lift a finger to make any meaningful changes to the sport because it might mean risking their position.

Stefan's beef is that failed F1 drivers don't have to go through the Road to Indy like he has had to do. In this case, it seems Max is doing exactly what Stefan would like him to.

I personally think Stefan is just mad that the only Indy team that was interested in him may not even be on the grid for the first race.

That sounds like a GP3 driver whinging that a Formula Renault 3.5 driver is going into GP2 without doing GP3 first.

Everybody else seems to recognise that going through Formula 1 - which is billed as the highest level open-wheel championship in the world - is a viable alternative to Road to Indy.

Exactly, he's not even guaranteed an Indy Lights ride (I never said it was a race seat either, just a "gig"). It seems like that fact goes against your first post on the subject...

Which is why I think it's just him having sour grapes that he didn't get the chance some others get.
 
Will Power came from F3.5 straight to Indy (champcar) and it seemed to do well for him.

Fact is things like this happen in basically every series around the world.

The funniest part about his whole rant was that his own brother ended up in IndyCar that way (Was with Minardi in 2003 and went to Champ Car in 2004).:lol:
 
Still hearing rumours of Indian investment in Manor. It's potentially the same pair of brothers - or at least one of them - who were linked to the team before Christmas. Apparently it hinges on their ability to come up with a deal with Ferrari.
 
Now I know she's incredibly, ridiculously, disgracefully attractive but come on, that's no reason to give her development driver status.

Was waiting till someone was going to put this up.

I have to say she is the most Attractive Female driver I have seen soo far. But she does no way in hell deserve that.

Never scored a point in GP3 with her best position being 13th and her next best position being 17th so you can see she has zero potential, keep in mind this is after 3 Seasons.
 
Utter nonsense. Good to see women making waves in motor racing, but can the ones who deserve it please stand up?
 
My thoughts exactly @mustafur She's essentially an 'it girl/model' who's seat is paid for by Daddy. I think the teams are trying to get as many of these silly signings and get the cash flow in before the FIA clamp down next season with the superlicence points system, and obviously a girl like that in your overalls is gonna look good, physically and morally lol

If they want to sign a GP3 backmarker as a test driver to do simulator work they have every right to. In fact, plenty of great test drivers aren't necessarily great racing drivers, so it's possible they've seen something in her development ability that isn't there during races.

Or maybe they figured that having someone better looking than Pastor Maldonado standing alongside Romain Grosjean in promotional images might be a boon for sponsorship.

I hope it's the former.

Speculation is mounting that Alonso may not be fit for the Australian Grand Prix next week. At the moment, it's an outside chance, but if it does come to pass, then I imagine Kevin Magnussen would be called up.

The real question now is who will take the second Manor seat. There are no obvious candidates, aside from Max Chilton. But I wonder if the new owners might be considering Mitch Evans to start with - he's local (enough) and it wouldn't clash with his GP2 commitments. And he could be taken on a short-term contract (say two or three races), giving Manor enough time to find a full-time replacement.
