First of, long time lurker, first time poster.

Now, I don't think I've ever seen much talk about this, but the difference between the 'physical' (the paint on the ground) and the 'actual' (where GT counts the laps) can drive a man insane.

It's fine on some tracks, but for instance, on the Top Gear course the actual finish is some meters in front of the physical line. Suzuka I think is the same. You can't do a proper standing start on these tracks, because you just have to guess where to start.

I cannot wrap my head around why somethin so simple is so darn hard to get right. Honestly, it seems so careless. Why, why why, Kaz? Can't there be a simple fix?

Welcome to GTP.

That's just the different between the start line and timing line. It varies from track to track in order to accommodate larger grids and other solutions.

This isn't a GT thing.

And standing starts are automatically gridded, no idea what you're talking about when you say, " You can't do a proper standing start on these tracks."

I think he probably means in Time Trial or Practice modes. Your car always begins from a rolling start in these modes, so if you want to try and do a standing lap instead, you must position the car yourself. However, this can be difficult on some tracks as the timer starts before your car crosses the start line (it's especially on the Top Gear Test Track, where the timer seems to begin nearly half a car length behind the line).

Slushbox is right. The "timing" line needs to be located exactly on the Finish line where it is painted on the ground.

Also, I do a lot of races in cockpit view with all display (hud) info OFF. In this fashion, which is quite immersive and fun, I can never tell when the last lap is coming up. Should this game not have a decent flagman on the finish lines? A nice white flag for last lap? An emphatic checkered-flag wave for finish? Maybe a blue flag for when I'm blocking the crap out of an opponent and need to let him pass? LoL.

I noticed this yesterday when I tried to do standing start time trials for the firs time. I ended up just making a point of reference and stuck to that.
