I wonder how many millions that cost. Still, a Sydney circuit would be rubbish, unless it was this (which would never happen);

Interesting that it states Melbourne and not specifically anything about Albert Park. Probably nothing to look into there as it's just wording.

Some mild doubts about the safety of the coming Singaporean GP as there's a heavy smog across the city which is expected to last well into next week. That's not due to concerns over F1 driver's health (we know from Mika Salo that their lungs are probably pretty dusty) but rather the ability of the medicopter to fly. Indian sessions have previously been delayed for the same reason. BBC.

Do they need the medical helicopter? Surely there is a hospital less than 10min by road from the track. They are in a tiny city state after all.

I believe that it's an FIA/FOM rule that a helicopter must be available and can fly (the exception being in stormy weather that happens post race start I think).

According to Google Maps, the closest one is 13-17 minutes away. There is also the issue of not all hospitals being able to treat various types of injuries.

Ah, I thought that it was 10min by road or a helicopter at all times...

OK. I assumed that there would be one close by since the track is in the heart of town.

Weird rumour from The Only Real Journalist In Formula One (And If You Believe Otherwise, You're A Wanker), hizzoner Joe Saward: a Rwandan Grand Prix! Apparently he spotted Paul Kagame, the president in the Singapore paddock, and reckons that Rwanda is trying to transition from subsistence agriculture to a tourism-based economy, and would offer a stable home in Africa for the sport.

Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads...uh, er...wait, hate is making an unscheduled pit stop.

Cars must now comply with all cockpit and safety equipment requirements during testing; such as the position of the driver’s head, all headrest padding, cockpit padding and ease of driver egress.

Sporting Regulations regarding track limits have been clarified and specify that drivers “must make every reasonable effort to use the track at all times and may not deliberately leave the track without a justifiable reason”. Penalties will still be allocated based on whether a driver is judged to have gained an advantage.

The WMSC approved the proposal of the F1 Commission regarding regulations for power unit and gearbox changes. Such penalties prior to qualifying will be applied based on the time of use. For changes made after qualifying, preference will be given to the driver whose team first informed the technical delegate that a change will occur.

Any driver who causes a start to be aborted, even if he is then able to start the extra formation lap, will be required to start the race from the pit lane. The same process will be applied to a re-start from a race suspension where drivers have been brought to the pit lane.

The WMSC confirmed a number of clarifications were made to aerodynamic testing restrictions for wind tunnel use and CFD, specifically focusing on reporting and inspection processes for these development tools.

For 2016, all cars must have a separate exhaust wastegate tailpipe through which all and only wastegate exhaust gases must pass. This measure has been undertaken to increase the noise of the cars and will not have any significant effect on power or emissions.

For 2017, on board cameras on stalks on the nose of cars will be prohibited.

Personally, I think the whole idea of a race there was just a ploy by Bernie E. to have some kind of bargaining chip on the table to drive up the price of the COTA's sanctioning fee.
You think Bernie would ever pull such a stunt?

The New York market should be where F1 races in the US since it is the major market of the US. Austin was an odd choice for a permanent race track since that's not a major market at all. It's not even the biggest market in Texas.

Port Imperial failed to happen mostly due to Chris Christie screwing things up in New Jersey.

How is New York the "major market" in the US?

I'm purely guessing, but my guess would be that Southern California is the largest market in the US as far as people interested in racing and motorsports. After that, I would guess Florida, then maybe Arizona/Texas/Nevada, then I would say maybe New York.

IMO, a Street Circuit in New Jersey / New York is dumb. It's New York, so your weather window in the summer is much smaller than say Cali.

The track itself would be another one of those where the location is prime, but the layout is mediocre. There's little to no elevation change, and corners would mostly be similar.

If anything, the TriState area needs a world class race facility built within an hour's drive...but not a street circuit.

New York needs Formula E, not Formula 1.

Port Imperial would've had either the most or second most elevation change on the entire F1 calendar.

EDIT: Not sure if you're talking about NY or California with that.

New York doesn't even make the top ten, iirc, California is richer. I'd agree that there's a much larger car/motorsport market there too.
