Left turns tend to happen predominantly when a track is ran in a counter-clockwise direction, which is all but a few F1 tracks.
...I think most of the current F1 tracks run clockwise.

Also, I realize that majority of tracks will have more rights than lefts, or lefts than rights, depending on the direction....but most circuits manage to get a bit more balance between left and right turns. Granted, it's trickier get that balance on a street course as opposed to a purpose built circuit.

You missed the most obvious one; Brazil.

Right, but nobody said most tracks were counter-clockwise? @GTPorsche is right that you're likely to have more left handers on a CCW track.

The latest track to be added (Baku) is counter-clockwise and has 17 turns (with 7 rights and 9 lefts) - it's not just the direction of the turn that counts but its magnitude.

On the previous page, last post, @GTPorsche said most F1 tracks ran CCW (unless I'm reading his post incorrectly). That's what I was originally responding to.

But it's neither here nor there :). I'm bored at work, trying to pass the time :lol:
 
Finland must have some permanent race tracks but as far as I am aware, not one up to any international standards. It would have to be a ground up project either way.

But as an idea? The Finnish Grand Prix? I like it.

So do I. But they don't have any circuits that are up to standard, and their major cities are pretty small. The only thing that I can think of is linking up some rural roads and bringing them up to standard.

Finland has a pretty extensive motorsport history (albeit one that's mostly in rallying), so why not go back to the old school way of making a street circuit?
 
It doesn't help that that's clearly a MotoGP venue and would be terrible for Formula 1.

Finland has a lot of F1 supporters though, no? They always seem to be around at the Hungarian GP, at least. They'd get a lot of people through the turnstiles. Admittedly, Finland is a very expensive country which might be off-putting for other nationals who, for example, see €12 a pint as being a touch on the expensive side.

As always, it's down to the cost of being able to host these things year on year.

It's not the worst track but it doesn't look like it'd be an ideal layout as is. That slalom is definitely a bike trope and I don't think it'd work well. Have it go straight on from the turn at the end of the long straight, avoiding the V shape/slalom, and it could be a great little track. Simple and squared.

Bikes and F1 should not use the same tracks. F1 cars generate so much down force that they pull up the track as they drive over it. That causes ripples in the surface that are dangerous to bike racers.
 
Define "built properly" then, because I don't see any way around tarmac being pulled up by the downforce of an F1 car not being the problem.

Are you thinking of a different surface or just no straights with big brake corners at the end of them?
