Hermann Tilke redesigning the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez for potential future Moto GP and F1 races in Argentina

View attachment 1466743

(Bike layout. Would be extended in sector 3 for F1).

Wow that new layout is hideous, only because it looks nothing like the previous circuit and doesn't feel like the same place. Seems like a shame to tear up a circuit with so many historic layouts like that for something which won't offer the same.

If you were to give me that track layout without the background and said "it's a Tilke redesign of a classic F1 circuit", Buenos wouldn't be near the top of the list. (I'd have guessed Nurburgring, Jarama, Rouen and maybe even Anderstorp before Buenos).

Tilke has redesigned tracks previously though and they've all been bangers. A1-Ring is still pretty much the same shape as the Österreichring was, just smaller; new (better) Hockenheim was recognisable because he didn't touch the stadium section at the end while making a manageable but infinitely race able new section; Fuji Speedway went from a high-speed track to a technical layout that still has a few crazy fast corners and ends with mistake-generator corners that promote overtaking down the massive straight.

It also seems like a missed fun opportunity to send F1 around the lake again, even if it necessitated a fun-police Chicane or new apex somewhere to break up the high-speed right.

Looks like 3 km length with the old layout having 4,3 km. Should include the loop around the lake.
