Hermann Tilke redesigning the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez for potential future Moto GP and F1 races in Argentina

(Bike layout. Would be extended in sector 3 for F1).

Wow that new layout is hideous, only because it looks nothing like the previous circuit and doesn't feel like the same place. Seems like a shame to tear up a circuit with so many historic layouts like that for something which won't offer the same.

If you were to give me that track layout without the background and said "it's a Tilke redesign of a classic F1 circuit", Buenos wouldn't be near the top of the list. (I'd have guessed Nurburgring, Jarama, Rouen and maybe even Anderstorp before Buenos).

Tilke has redesigned tracks previously though and they've all been bangers. A1-Ring is still pretty much the same shape as the Österreichring was, just smaller; new (better) Hockenheim was recognisable because he didn't touch the stadium section at the end while making a manageable but infinitely race able new section; Fuji Speedway went from a high-speed track to a technical layout that still has a few crazy fast corners and ends with mistake-generator corners that promote overtaking down the massive straight.

It also seems like a missed fun opportunity to send F1 around the lake again, even if it necessitated a fun-police Chicane or new apex somewhere to break up the high-speed right.

Looks like 3 km length with the old layout having 4,3 km. Should include the loop around the lake.

It was a terrible track when it returned to the calendar in 1995 and this layout looks no better.

Seems like a shame to tear up a circuit with so many historic layouts like that for something which won't offer the same.
The Autodromo Galvez with the long loop is long gone and something to just accept so I don't mind a redesign of the terrible 1990s layout as long as it's good. Bringing it back with a horrible speed-slowing chicane defeats the point of bringing it back and it surely runs against your Old Hockenheimring principle; the race would be extremely boring on that loop and tailoring it for safety wouldn't make it a challenging blast through the grass.

I like the trackside greenery around the proposed map though.

Hermann Tilke
Ah. That'll not be in the final product then.

“I have to say that aside from some older die-hard fans, everyone wants sprint weekends. Promoters push for this format and now the drivers are interested as well.
“As for the drivers, initially 18 were against the sprint and two in favour - today it’s the opposite. We discussed it at the dinner we organised in Austria and everyone spoke in favour. Even Max, with whom I spoke one-on-one, is starting to say it makes sense, so I see evolution from everyone. In the end, drivers are born to race.”

If practice is so boring, don't televise it and don't sell tickets to it. Oh right, it's more about the money than the actual sport.

Shorter grands prix are also on the agenda. This will also cause traditionalists to chafe, although of course from the beginning of the world championship 75 years ago to the end of 1957, GPs were typically up to three hours long.

To a modern TV audience the 1956 Belgian Grand Prix, to pick a random example, might have caused interest to sag. After two hours and 40 minutes just eight cars were running at Spa, then over 14km long; victorious Peter Collins crossed the line nearly two minutes ahead of second-placed Paul Frere, and everyone below the podium positions was at least a lap down.

But even current races “may be a bit too long for younger audiences” says Domenicali.

“We’re seeing on many of our channels that highlights do very well. For those of us who grew up with the current format, everything is fine as is, but there’s a large segment that only wants to see the key moments.

“Things are going very well today, but precisely for that reason we must not rest on our laurels. We need to think about the next step.”
Oh great, F1 designed for the Tiktok/DTS generation.

I'm totally against pandering to people with short attention spans but it's inevitable and it's happening everywhere. Everything I loved growing up from games, shows, sports is turning to ****.

How to kill F1 in a total misunderstanding of numbers and your fanbase.

Catchy book title.

Just what I wanted, shorter races and the like because we're appealing to people with short attention spans.
