Finished episode 38 of Eureka Seven. After watching Code Geass, Evangelion, and Gurren Lagann, Eureka Seven is just so tame compared to them. You can tell Eureka Seven is heavily influenced by Evangelion, but it's toned down quite a bit.

I have 3 more DVDs to go through with this series, and I'm hoping that it picks up majorly within those 3 discs.

Coolest story ever :p
Yes, because a complete incoherent mess* with characters that suffer rewrites all the time, have backstory that is never relevant to the plot, and a story filled with plotholes upon plotholes is cool...

*It's just not me who is finding it confusing to the point I have no idea what is going on period, pretty much everyone had the same thoughts. I doubt even BONES knows what the hell is going on.

If you're not finding it all that good at this point, you probably never will.

It's weak compared to Code Geass, Evangelion, and Gurren Lagann. E7 spent like half the series being broke and looking for odd jobs to get cash.

It's a coming-of-age series that takes time to establish itself. It started to get more into that mode when Ray and Charles appeared.

One of the things that ends up being really noticeable, Renton's relationship with Holland.
Holland ends up becoming like a father towards Renton. Holland even admits he's weak, a coward, and takes all his anger out on Renton as a means of running away from the problem at the time.

Most of Holland's frustrations towards Renton was because Eureka chose Renton over Holland. Understandable, seeing as that Holland's life with the Gekkostate pretty much revolved around Eureka.

So far it seems that Holland has turned into an older brother figure, not really a father figure.

As far as being a coming-of-age story, Gurren Lagann does a much, much better job at this. Renton matured after Ray and Charles, but not nearly as much as Simon.

Evangelion is kind of the opposite of a coming-of-age story in which none of the characters really mature and suffer for it.

I...found it confusing but then it solved itself with the last two episodes.
Followed by my post comparing it with Star Driver.

@Sly, Gah my memory is too vague to bother really going further in this. It's been a year and a half since I last saw these episodes.

I do agree Gurren Lagann did things better. It was always the superior show after all.

I need to refresh my memory on that show. It's been almost 4 years since I last saw it, my memory is ridiculously vague on it.

OMG you guys post in here at the weirdest times. TTGL is awesomesauce.

Considers E7 AO awesome, considers Gurren Lagann to not be.

Mind=Blown

No, it's not. It tries so hard to be Gundam and Evangelion mixed together with morals as a cherry topping.

The NGE part only makes sense because it's the same studio. There is no Gundam at all, though. TTGL is over the top OMG insanity that is freaking awesome.

I tried twice to like Gurren Lagann but couldnt enjoy it & E7 i only saw when it aired on Adult swim way back and thought a bit strange at the time .

AOS-
All moe-drawn anime is always just women.

But this is just one character. Similar things have happened with other animes too.

And how are you supposed to not like TTGL? You'd have to be a madman not to.

Finished Noir. The ending gets a little confusing, but overall the show was good. The story is a little on the weak side, but the characters are very good.

Also started Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere. That first episode, I must say, it's one of the craziest first episodes I've ever seen. Seriously, for a second there I thought I was watching a Gainax anime, not a Sunrise anime.

So far, I'm finding it a guilty pleasure. I do wonder if it'll be like Strike Witches, starts out as a guilty pleasure, then becomes a bit of a quality show. I've heard mostly good things about Horizon, so we'll see.

Speaking of it, ew...

Seriously, WTF happened to half of episode 7 on Sentai's BD?

You'd have to be a madman not to.

Wrong. Jumping straight on the bandwagon about speaking great about a show is wrong, and ignorant.... I admit I did it with TTGL.

The few others here just loudmouth about how much they like FLCL (i.e. "FLCL is amazing", "FLCL FTW"), while I still didn't understand those 6 episodes all too much. I'm not going to say FLCL was a great show just because everyone else did, I'm not going to say Madoka was great because a lot of people thought so too. I'm not implying that either show is bad. (understand this before convincing yourself that I'm just hating)

All I'm saying is, TTGL overall is great, but I feel people have been taught to just say good things about it all the time without having solid reasons why. Right now I don't want to say TTGL is a masterpiece...I don't recall why it should be, and I recall bits of the plot I didn't agree with. I want to relook the plot and refresh my memory of the show and I might just explain what I didn't like about this "flawless 10/10" show.

Look at the characters, they are never actually developing. They get rewritten all the time. Ao, goes from crybaby who runs away to angry mecha pilot, back to the crybaby who runs away, and it does not make one inch of sense how it happens. This is worse than SAO, at least that tried at times, this doesn't.

And don't even get me started on Elena, that otaku girl I hate.
Let's see here, we get stuff on Elena and Fleur, when they're in Generation Bleu for some reason, and it NEVER :censored:ing matters.

The stuff about Eureka in the beginning? It doesn't matter either because they throw aside the stuff about Ao trying to find his mom in favor of other nonsensical stuff. The creators for the life of them can't create a cohesive plot! The moment
they sent Eureka back to her world (Or did they? This show becomes an even bigger mess once they involve time travel and other worlds, so many more plotholes are created because of it.)
they threw everything about her, Ao finding his mom, and everything else aside, in favor of this Truth business, the guy doing random crap all the time for no reason at all.

Seriously, Truth NEVER had ANY goals in the first place! Ao in episode 21/22 was right, he doesn't make any :censored:ing sense, even with his backstory (I like how he had more backstory than every other character combined now that I think about it...) about how he's a Humanoid Secret.
Let me leave this here...

"The Secrets are NOT your enemy. I repeat, they are NOT your enemy! Let's kill them all anyway!"

Yes lets kill creatures who
we thought were our enemies, but as explained in episode 13 are creatures that just take the element Quartz away from the Scub Corals, that's it, and are apparently doing good things.
"Oh look, I can travel from Scandanavia to Okinawa, to space in only an hour!"
-Quartz Gun
-The massive time travel mess of episodes 11-13, and later, the final two episodes as I've heard.
-Secrets attacking Secrets
-Everything about Truth

I could keep going.
I...found it confusing but then it solved itself with the last two episodes.
Followed by my post comparing it with Star Driver.
It solved itself? AFAIK, what happened in the end was
they trashed everything about Ao for a bunch of nonsensical ********, and caused a massive reset. All those 9000+ loose ends, remained loose, and basically didn't matter because of that massive reset.
And because I feel like it, here's more reasons why this show is so awful.

(One of the very few instances where I'll agree with nearly everything he said)

Much better than my review.

Oh and MAL continues to rate it down. Was 7.40 this morning, now 7.39. Went from 7.56 to that in only two days. How low can it go?

Queen's blade is very horrible...Please let that series stay in the H-section.

Awesome pics, nk! 👍

Don't go into TTGL expecting something as deep as Eva. TTGL is, to me, a crapload of fun, almost a parody of stereotypical OTT mecha shows.

She gives me that stare a lot, too.

Actually TTGL is surprisingly deep, something that you wouldn't get since it does start off as somewhat of a parody.

Like in the final battle

How everyone had a dream of their ideal life, Viral and Yoko gave up what they wanted the most to fight for the greater good. Yoko gave up a life with Kamina and Viral gave up his family.

Or how at the very end Simon

Gave up being the ruler, because he was always a digger and always will be. Also how, IMO, Simon ended up a being greater man than Kamina was.

But of course not as deep as Evangelion.

I also require that Asuka, but I think it was $6000 or something like that.

Yeah around $6000 or so, and it'll get only more expensive as the Yen gets stronger, and the Dollar gets weaker. Gawdammit...
