I watch less anime than I did when I first got into it, much as I listen to the bands I loved when I was 14 far, far less now than I did then. It's not because I don't like those bands any more, 14 year old me had pretty good taste, if I don't say so myself. It's just the novelty of those bands has worn off and I've moved onto other things.

Similarly with anime, the novelty of animation that isn't what we're used to in the west has worn off, and now I can spot clichés and other general badness from a distance. That doesn't mean I'm not into anime any more, it just means that I've had my fair share and I only feel like dipping into something special every now and again.

^ May I add: Boys Over Flowers & Fruits Basket.

ANIME MINIONS!

Have you guys ever thought bout straying away from anime?

I can't. I like it way too much to just give it up.

I've never really stopped watching anime ever since I started for real a few years ago. But as of late I've raised my standards for quality of production, and that has reduced the amount of material I'm willing to watch.

Of course, quality can always be compensated for (or replaced by) boobs and butts.

Ooh. Speedhunters knows whats up.

^ I can stray away from anime easily! Since I got 3-jobs (now), and my love affair with cars will never wane. But the problem lies that I'm a prospective manga storyteller, so the stories in my head correlates like watching anime...so its hopeless. :indiff:

It's Friday guys. Anyone got a doodle to share?
^ Um, I have some:

- Some car designs and the characters who will eventually drive them (Surya = AW11 & Sanjay = AE85)

- Did a panel practice between Charles/Char (left/A176 Lancer Turbo) vs Ray (right/W124 500E), with far lesser focus on cars.

So after much talk and Q&A and laziness, @SVX & @BayneHamlin1121 finally got me to watch my first episode of real anime aside from a few Naruto episodes. I watched the first episode of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Cute show. Definitely plan on watching the series ^.^

Finally watched something other than rewatching Initial D battles last night. Finished off the first season of Kuroko no Basuke. Run down:

Pretty decent; definitely took me by surprise. Structured in a way that wouldn't alienate non-basketball players, but for people who enjoy/play basketball it's definitely more appealing to them. Plot structure definitely has similarities to Initial D - in a way there's overcoming odds, and prevailing as the underdog. How it differs is with the use of more realism - unlike Initial D where Takumi possessed absolute luck and won things he really shouldn't have, Kuroko shows when someone has no chance, they really have no chance and lose the match.

Momoi definitely made things interesting, however. ;)

Tonight's plans are to watch Kuroko's specials, watch Initial D: Project D to the Next Stage and if I have time, watch the first two episodes of Gangsta.

Tomorrow night, however, I'll start Black Lagoon. :D

Welcome to the club, buddy.

Speaking about The Melancholy, I'm not a fan of this setting, but somehow this title got me addicted very quickly. I can't even explain why... It was also one of my first non-car animes. And the Disappearance movie is just  10/10 to me.
The spin-off (The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan) is not so good, I'm watching it just to see the familiar characters in a new story.

I'm a little over halfway through Twin Spica.

The pacing is a bit weird... every few episodes, there seems to be one that's dedicated to telling backstory. Not bad, mind you, but it is a bit annoying when you're wanting to find out how the story progresses and instead the show insists on using an entire episode to show you events from the distant past that have little bearing on the story other than to flesh out the characters by padding them with excess fluff.

Despite that though, it's pretty great so far. In some ways, it's no Planetes... but in others, it's better. Overall, I'd say it's not quite as good as Planetes... but it's the next best thing if you're hankering for something similar.

Dude! How did you know I was curious about that one as well? Do tell me how it is when you're done 👍
