I heard putting your pencil on your piece helps push the composition and makes you look cool :sly:

OK, so I've just watched ep. 3 of OPM...surely it has to be more than just a coincidence that "Carnage Kubota"'s "Carnage Mode" gave it Eva-01's colours?

It definitely has to be a nod to Eva-01, too much of a coincidence not to be.

Can I ask you guys something? If I haven't watched certain popular anime (like Tokyo Ghoul, Sword Art Online, any Ghibli film, etc), does that make me less of an anime fan? Should I just stop where I am and quit? I mean, anime is still one of my favourite things ever, but I don't know... It just feels like I'm missing out.

I guess I'm just questioning my fan-hood...

I haven't seen any, but you don't have to (bar Ghibli films). Only watch them if you going to put judgement on them. Don't be another one of those 'SAO sucks because everyone says it does!' people, but never actually watching it.

you don't have to watch anything to qualify yourself as "an anime fan"--that's up to you and yourself only.
besides why tire yourself by watching trashy shows with no rewarding aspects at all? ;/

Ghibli is worth watching because it transcends typical anime... they don't call Miyazaki the "Walt Disney of Japan" for nothing... Walt's ghost should feel flattered at the comparison. Some of the older ones and many of the ones not directed by Hayao Miyazaki himself are not home runs, but the quality and the attention to detail still shines through.

Anime is a broad, broad field. There are those of us who don't follow every single thread and sub-genre.

It's like gaming. You don't have to buy every single AAA-title that comes out to call yourself a gamer. Just familiarizing yourself with their existence is enough.

As @Not_A_Guest says: Why torture yourself watching stuff you don't like just to say you're an anime fan? The most you should do is watch one or two episodes... decide if it's worth finishing... and then either finish it or move on.

@RacingOtaku86

Get out there and watch some Ghibli. Not because you need to to be an anime fan, just because nearly all of their stuff is like a platinum nugget in the middle of a rubbish tip.

But seriously, it's about what you enjoy and what you want to watch, not stuff which other people say you should watch. If people only watched anime that was usually considered worth watching they'd stop after watching most of Miyazaki's stuff, some of Takahata's, Whisper of the Heart, Akira, Satoshi Kon's stuff, Cowboy Bebop, and maybe FLCL, Madoka Magica, and some of Mamoru Hosoda's stuff. OK, maybe a little more than that, but not much.

Doesn't make other stuff any worse necessarily, it just makes it stuff people are less likely to recommend or be interested in as well if you're interested in it.

C'est la vie.

I'm not exactly the type of person who watches anime...but for the first time I watched most of the first stages of Initial D and I couldn't stop.
My friend (who usually never has a negative opinion on anything, to be honest) tells me that anime is stupid. Coming from the person who watches South Park, I'm not surprised. Well, he's going to be surprised to see a Panda Trueno on the TV tomorrow. :sly:

Just take a deep breath, and remember that anime is just a medium.

Even the biggest film buffs haven't seen every good or popular movie, huge bookworms haven't read every popular novel, obsessive gamers haven't beaten every popular game. Even if they wanted to, there just simply isn't enough time.

Also, just because something's popular, that doesn't mean it's great. Seeking out lesser-known hidden gems would make you infinitely more of an anime fan in my eyes than simply watching whatever's currently airing or has achieved mainstream success. That's not to say you should go full hipster and refuse to watch popular anime though, some of it actually does deserve to be popular.

Anime can be a pain in the ass, but it's far from stupid.

Yes, most of them are. But not all. Applies to the things you listed as well.
Yes cap'n, that's the point I was making. Hence why I used the word "most", not "all".

But more specifically, the point I was making was that being close-minded towards something (i.e. anime) because of a generalization that could equally be applied to something you probably do like (i.e. movies, tv, etc.) increases the likelyhood that you have the intelligence of... most people.

Yeah. I think a year was ample time to forget enough about Psycho-Pass 2 that I could go into the movie with some optimism. /lazy

Oh GOD the unnecessary Engrish especially when it doesn't quite match up with the subs. Funny to hear Izaya Orihara's JVA have a crack at it though.

Someone who has watched the first part says to wait for all of the parts to complete and watch it in one go.

Damn Kizu, back at it again with the long wait.

I'm actually considering His and Her Circumstances, it may have a touch of NGE left over on it. Like an angel infecting an eva or another Asuka....

His and Her Circumstances is great.

It suffers from the whole Gainax going bankrupt towards the end of NGE problem, but amazingly the show kinda uses that to its advantage. The only big problem wit it is the fact that it just abruptly ends, due to legal issues with the author of the original manga who apparently thought the anime was focusing too heavily on the comedy rather than the romance... which IMHO is perposterous, since I think it's one of the best romance anime series ever. Certainly leagues better than all the dumb crap that panders to the otaku demographic (i.e. most anime romance series).

Wasted gifs are the best.

Edit: you know what else is also the best? When Sekai provides a status update saying Labyrinth of Grisaia is 100% translated.

woot woot pee pee run my hands through my 'fro.
