If it hasn't been brought up yet, I suppose I should mention the new Touhou game coming out this year, the 14.5th one called Urban Legend in Limbo. It's another fighter, same as Hopeless Masquerade. That was an aerial fighter that wasn't great, and this is too, but it seems to be much improved. However it retains all the characters from HM which is sensible but not that adventurous. It would be fine if they added plenty of characters we all wanted...but they've only added 4 from what the code shows. One is Kasen which is interesting since she hasn't been in a game yet, the other is the compulsory new character for the game. The other two are Shinmyoumaru and Mokou who I'm not interested in. Horribly wasted opportunity.

So I'm not that hype for it, but at least it'll be an upgrade over the to-be-redundant HM. In which case, why did they just not make it an expansion pack like with the superb Hisoutensoku? Pretty silly, truth be told.

Aw, now we can have that Mokou and Kaguya fight we're all looking for.

ULL is to HM what SWR was to IaMP -- an entirely new game and story that just happens to use the old engine and a general majority of assets (sprites, movesets, sfx, etc.) of the old game. It isn't meant to be an expansion to HM the way Soku was to SWR -- note the lack of a popularity gauge, for example.

And where did you get the information about Shinmyoumaru and Mokou being in ULL?

I started watching it too. Albeit skipping through the boring stuff. I wanted to see the scene where one of them dances through a busy street and not get hit. That's all.

Yes, but Madoka was a superb piece of writing, so fair game.

Honestly, I haven't seen any of his other stuff. Don't especially care too. Anime sucks.

-Aldnoah.Zero 2=Mediocrity
-Blassreiter=Haven't seen it, heard he wasn't able to do much himself, it was all about the director.
-Expelled From Paradise=Heard very mixed things about it, have yet to see it myself (Not screened in my state whatsoever)
-Fate/Zero=Excellent, however he was responsible really only for writing the LN's which he did with TYPE-MOON.
-Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet=Decent at best
-Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom=Very good
-Psycho-Pass=(Barely) Good, but it's due to the characters, not the story that's full of holes that brings that portion down to mediocrity. S2 was absolutely atrocious, but he had very little involvement with it. Tow Ubukata is who was responsible for the writing of that disaster.
-Madoka=Very good, but not excellent or a masterpiece. (I have yet to see the movies, even the third which wasn't a recap and something new)

Yep, Love Live! is VERY successful. In fact (Event ticket volume but whatever) the first volume of S2 is the best-selling single volume for anime in history, outselling the best-selling NGE volume (Either a laserdisc or VHS, can't remember which and what it did) by selling 116,266. The other volumes did around 50K each (A few were above, others a little below), S1 averaged 29,617, so yeah...

I pretty much agree with your assessment here. In regards to A.Z though, I'm only watching it because of its OST and seeing how relations between Slaine and Inaho will unfold.

Also, you should touch on Madoka Rebellion. Though I think it's one of those movies that really needs a rewatch to understand everything.

All the others I can agree with besides Phantom. I keep hearing that Phantom is just about average due to plot holes.

Yeah, those are propper Yoko Kanno-awesome. Her last work -Kids on the Slope if I'm right- let me down a bit because, well, it wasn't really her work. The stuff she composed for the show was good/decent, but since it was about jazz and several jazz standards were included, she only did arrangements instead of full pieces. So while it was a good soundtrack, the highlights were not Kanno pieces, but jazz that has been around and around and, even if awesome, the songs still hold that "been there done that" thingie.

I'll get around to it eventually when I get my hands on the BD. I don't watch fansubs for things I know for a fact will get a legal alternative.

Watching Death Note for the first time up to e11 so no spoilers :) While so far i like it.Its a little scary with the main topic being about death and all :nervous:
 


One of the most successful idol anime ever. It's quite good, though I personally can't get too much into it. Still something I'd recommend.

I never understand as to why anime apparently sucks. There's always going to be some trash in something. It'd be like saying cars are trash because there's many awful ones, same with food.

Thing is, I'd say about 95 percent of anime sucks big major bat-dung time, 4 percent of what doesn't suck doesn't rule either, it's like it's just ok/good, and the remaining one percent are the real jewels.

As you say, there's trash in everything, but anime has got to have one of the highest rates of anything.

I've been watching anime for about 20 years, at least 15 of those including the culture that surrounds it. I was there in the golden years of anime and saw the freefall demise of it. I was once an enthusiastic otaku that watched everything that crossed my path; in that process, I got so fed up of anime sucking so hard that I've simply almost walked away from it in recent times, only giving chances to shows that are really going to grab me. It's not only that I've become more selective as time and shows went by, it's because anime has really suffered an almost unfathomable drop in quality.
 
Golden years? Yes the 90's were full of Cowboy Bebops.......

What, like... every other form of media ever? Isn't that kinda stating the obvious?

It's not like anime is proportionally more sucky than most other artforms, either, and I simply don't believe the rhetoric about it having "dropped off" in quality over the years. Most of the stuff I watch is modern, and almost everything I've seen, I've liked enough to finish. It's not like I'm not critical, either; my tastes are pretty far-reaching, but I know the difference between a turd and a diamond.
 
In order to truly say it's dropping off in quality you've had to have actually seen enough stuff (And that doesn't mean going on say like TVTropes, actually watch the stuff). There's certain ridiculous claims that come about it. "Anime is too cutesy. It never was cute like this." *Ahem*

Its always had its ups and downs, and there's always at least one good show per season. Even a season as pathetic as say winter 2014 managed this with Space*Dandy (Barely).
