After watching the 75th Episode of Yugioh ARC-V. I looked back at all the previous episodes and noticed some theme following each of the Dimensions and not just in the way of a massive Yugioh War between all the Yugiohs.

I have a hunch that the Dimensions represent the type of fans you see in gaming.

Fusion Dimension: Represents the fans of all the old installments and hate the new ones and wish it was the way it was (like Pokemon genwunners for example). Fusion is the oldest of the main 4 Summoning methods which fit perfectly and they invaded the Xyz Dimension which before the events of ARC-V was the latest Summoning method in which the older fans usually attack the newest thing. The goal of Fusion trying to make all the worlds 1 is kinda like bringing the game to how it was before.

Xyz Dimension: Represents all the new fans so they are mostly used to the new stuff. However these people are often verbally attacked by older fans by liking all the new stuff, reminiscent to when the Fusion Dimension attacked the Xyz Dimension. The fans then go on a crusade against the old fans to defend what they love but at the same time lose focus on what they loved in the first place and grow hatred to the old stuff. This is more obvious with the character from the Xyz Dimension Shay who said he used to Duel for fun before the Invasion and now considers Dueling a Battlefield for Surviving.

Synchro Dimension: Represents Competitive Gaming. The main location of this dimension "City" is a competitive society where you only live in luxury if you keep winning while losing makes you live like slums or even forced to be a slave. The Tops are all high and mighty like the stereotypical competitive gamers and look down on everyone else and some scenes of "City" can even be seen as the parallel to the "filthy casual" meme.

Standard Dimension: Represents Casual Gaming, the main thing across most of the duelists here is dueling to entertain the crowd and even the opponent with Action Duels which can be unpredictable and a bit of luck which can be seen as a lot of fun and creative.

The main city in ARC-V is actualy called "Maiami City". (Paradise City in the dub) It is apparently meant to be play on the actual Miami.

As with any 12 episoder that I like, I know I'll burn through it quickly. Thank you varsity for not being busy for once.

Hello. First time in here, and thought I'd share my experience with Anime.

So having never been able to follow any Anime for more than a few episodes as a result of them being too "Japanese", what with obscene amounts of fan service and meh plots and characters, a friend of mine suggested that I watch Attack on Titan. So I did. And I absolutely loved it. I couldn't put it down once I had started. The animation was brilliant, as was the soundtrack. I also found the story very interesting, although there were times where it seemed to move at a very slow pace, while at the same time not offering much in terms of character development. But when it gets going, it's really good.

The cast is superb, with Mikasa stealing the show as the most badass character ever. I wish she had more dialogue, but I suppose she speaks through her actions more so than with her words. The rest of the cast is pretty solid as well, with a bunch of tragic deaths thrown in.

Only things I didn't like was the constant monologuing, and the characters inability to not scream out half of their dialogue. Other than that, I really like the show, and can't wait for the 2nd season.

I watched it in Japanese with English subtitles, and have now ordered it on Blu-Ray. One thing I found strange, was that the Japanese voice over is featured with a 2.0 Dolby TrueHD track, where as the English one is given the full 5.1 Dolby TrueHD treatment. Guess I'll watch it in English on my next go.

So yeah. That is my limited experience with Anime.

I agree about the soundtrack. I LOOOOVE that composer.

S2 might not be for awhile, you might want to read the manga. I found it kinda boring compared to the anime, but it does help to explain things. Thankfully there isn't much Eren in it, as I find him irritating as a main character.

Annie is best girl.

I forgot AoT is getting a S2. Probably gonna be the most-talked show once it kicks off

Take a look at Psycho-Pass, or if you're ambitious Madoka. Some good stuff right there. Maybe Samurai Champloo as well.

Attack on Titan is a pretty good place to start, thanks to its overall style and atmosphere. Other good starting points are, in my opinion, Cowboy Bebop - which is considered by pretty much everyone to be a masterpiece and the ultimate gateway series in anime, and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt - which, with its South Park-esque humor and an art style influenced by Western animation, was the show which ultimately started my transformation into an anime-head. The latter show might not be for everyone, but it really holds a special place in my heart. Too bad Kill la Kill (another amazing show in its own right) will be the closest we'll get to a second season of Panty & Stocking.

Attack on Titan tends to impress people who haven't seen so much anime because it's violent and not actually trash. Most people who have seen more anime tend to find it a bit meh, in my experience. Cowboy Bebop's a classic which no one should overlook, great music, great animation, great most things.

Otherwise with anime nearly all the good stuff is Studio Ghibli films. With films it's also worth mentioning Akira (cliche but has to be done) and the films of Satoshi Kon, particularly Perfect Blue; a film which messes with one's head like nothing else.

If you want something heavier but also extremely funny in a very, very surreal manner, try FLCL. It's about puberty and 90s indie rock and puberty and forehead robots and bass guitars and puberty and being 12 and what is this.

On the less surreal, more commercial side (In contrast to the likes of Perfect Blue, Akira, or FLCL) there's Death Note (which I believe actually has the same director as Attack on Titan) a show which is popular for a reason, even if it goes downhill big time in the last third.

If you're in the mood for a short sharp action series Terror in Resonance (by Cowboy Bebop director Shinichirō Watanabe) is worth checking out. It's about terrorists blowing stuff up while detectives try to track them down and stop them and the Japanese prime minister being an ultra nationalist wingnut who has no idea what a constitution or a second world war is. (/political)

Also it has a brilliant soundtrack.

At the lighter end of the spectrum there's Nichijou, a show about weird things happening to short people in and around a high school.

Also it has a talking cat.

Finally there's Puella Magi Madoka Magica, a show which starts out slowly but builds into a brilliant superhero story. Even without a great story it'd be worth watching for the experimentation with animation style alone, and beyond that it's worth rewatching for the foreshadowing everyone misses the first time.

Also it has a burning petrol tanker flying into a witch.

There are basically no other good anime, and even if there are, there are better things one can do with their time than watch anime, like learning an instrument, participating in a sport, or getting into pointless arguments on video game forums.

Just finished Shirobako. I liked it, but I thought they put way too much emphasis on the high school subplot that didn't go anywhere. Maybe it could be the focus of series 2 if they make it, but I felt it was a waste of time that would have been more interestingly spent on the office politics.

Also it had a difficulty spike the size of K2 for people who haven't already spent way too much time on Wikipedia reading about animu and mango. And what was up with their faces? For an anime about animation I'd expect them to at least keep the character's faces on model.

Still, so much slash shipping material.

Yes. Everything, apart from the anime I listed there, learning an instrument, participating in a sport, and getting into pointless arguments on video game forums, sucks.

































Or maybe the ratio of the amount of enjoyment most people are likely to get out of anime to the amount of time one has to put in to "getting into it" means that if one doesn't find plenty to enjoy on that list, they won't be finding it in other anime. Not to say they shouldn't watch other anime, or indeed enjoy it, just that most people won't have time for it.

This is the meaning of anime, for me.

I love Initial D to pieces, even though it's probably one of the most shocking examples of anime that is adored. The things it does get right, though, far surpasses the negatives in quality for me.

All I can suggest is to have fun. Take a gamble and try things out that are out of your comfort zone. I noted many of the animes I was suggested here but also went on my own adventures to find things that I may be interested in. My first example of this was Chuunibyou. I had previously only watched animes involving cars so going from that to a 'slice of life' was a bit of a shock, but I'll tell you what, I loved it. Even though I slightly over-exaggerated how good it was, which anyone would when watching their first anime, it was still a great way to get into a fairly obscure hobby.

As one new anime fan to the other, welcome, and most importantly, have fun. Looking forward to posts from you as it's been awhile since any real in depth analysis has gone on this thread (not complaining, just noting).
 
The less anime one has watched, generally the less cynical and jaded they will be. After a while, only the best will do. Unless one just wants to switch off and watch something dumb. Then you might wind up watching anything.

The soundtrack continuely surprised me with how emotional and/or epic it got. Espicially love the Bird in a Cage song. Simply beautiful. I'm afraid I've never been into comics and Mangas, althought AoT did leave me with some questions that I needed answers to, and as such, I went online and read up on the stuff that was only explained in the Manga.

And regarding the Annie is best statement... Say that to this face. I dare you! Eren isn't good enough for her... :lol:

I appreciate the suggestions for stuff to watch, although to be honest, I don't know if they're really up my alley. I think part of the reason I liked AoT is that it is very serious in tone and subject, wasting little time on goofy stuff. This makes the fun moments stand out more for me, and by extension, makes them funnier. I don't want to dabble around in too many shows at the same time, but I might give a few of the suggestions a watch. In any case, I doubt I'll ever be really into anime. AoT seems like the exception, rather than the rule. Perhaps in the sense that it is a bit more mainstream?

Garden of Sinners (Bit of a dandruff anime)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (if you don't mind whiney teenagers)
Claymore, maybe?

That's what I'd recommend.
