50 some episodes a year, 50 some chapters a year. BTW, Naruto Shippuden, is so, so, so far behind the manga that the use of filler doesn't make much sense at this point.

Trust me, Naruto will be the first of the big 3 to end, and it will end in 3 years most likely at the latest. Bleach is rumored to go on for 10 more years (Kubo, WHY?!!:facepalm: ), and who knows about One Piece. Eiichiro Oda is done with the side-trips he took because he enjoyed working on it so much. It's already gone on for 14 years, instead of the 5 originally planned.

Think of Naruto being like Dragon Ball, that went on for a long time (40+ volumes), but it did eventually end. Hell, it's in a similar position as InuYasha (Which lasted 12 years, and 56 volumes.).

Also, most weekly manga series last a few to a couple years anyway, so it's not like Naruto being that different. There are so many manga with 100+ chapters.

And I don't know why people watch all that crap. Those shows/manga are like MMOs. They just go on and on with no conclusion.

Sorry. I like a nice story. It's why I watch movies and certain TV shows. I like stories with conclusions. I don't like things that just waste my time. And don't come back and be all like "they doooo have a story". I'm talking about a story that freaking ends.

Also what would you say on something like Fullmetal Alchemist? The manga lasted for like a decade being published monthly, and it did get a conclusion. Some people thought that series never would end, but it did.

You need to look at how these series actually do indeed end. People think InuYasha is still ongoing, but they finished the anime almost two years ago, and the manga has been over for 3 and half year.

Also, these shows don't have stories until they end? That I find to be stupid considering they're not like soap operas. You'll see One Piece, you'll see Bleach end (Most likely prematurely if it falls even further in the Weekly Shonen Jump reader surveys. AKA It gets cancelled due to low rankings.), and you'll see Naruto end.

And to answer this, it's because they're interested in the story, or they started from square one right when it started. As fans, they're devoted to the series. Many love tuning in every week to see the latest episode, and do so for years. Same with manga, those big fat telephone sized weekly manga magazines lots of people look forward to reading the latest chapter.

I've watched many shows that are 100+ episodes, and I personally find them to be just like the shorter shows, they each I found to be entertaining (I have yet to dislike an anime.), and good/great/excellent. My favorite of them easily is One Piece. Talk to many of the fans, it's a very beloved series, and many people actually wish it hits 1,000 episodes. (I'm not one of those people. I hope it doesn't go on that long, but it'll take at least another 12 years to hit that landmark.)

These are pretty much the only cons I see in these longer shows.
1. Rewatching them can be daunting. One Piece, as much as I love it, it's a show I would be hesitant to rewatch. I mean it's already at 523 episodes, basically 250+ hours worth of stuff. The initial watching I find however to be completely worth it, and I love every catalog episode I go through to bridge the gap between where I'm at in the older episodes, and episode 391.
2. Starting them years after they started is daunting. You're worried at how long it'll take you to catch-up. Though, this gives you the chance to marathon more episodes, and more often if you like marathoning.

Manga IMO is different. Hard for me to explain why. Maybe it's because it only takes like 15 minutes to read a manga "book" and they are all story and get to the point.

I would have compared it to contemporary pop songs, where all they do is distract you with some hook until they come out with another song and only then do you realize that last song had no substance or lasting appeal.


Actually I just thought of another one. Picture you in a race down the street (50 metres).... now just as you begin, suddenly a bunch of ninjas appear, and each of them represent a side mission. You have to complete all of those before you can reach the finish line, and they are almost always irrelevant to finishing the race.

They are still usually 100+-200+ chapters, and them lasting for a decade can be very common. Excel Saga, you watched all of the anime, but guess how long the manga is? 27 volumes, and the manga was published monthly for 15 years. It ended a couple months ago.

Did it get cancelled? That could explain it. I mean Tite Kubo's Zombiepowder. for example lasted like 4 volumes IIRC (The last two chapters were never put in volumes.), and it was cancelled due to ranking too low in the WSJ surveys.

Okay. Then maybe I view manga like I view comic books: I have zero interest. If you like 15 years of the same thing then more power to you. I do like novels. I like them a lot. But I've never been fond of manga or comic books.
 
The Haruhi light novels actually came first. The anime is based off of that.

Let me be honest here: I've heard of light novels. I've heard of them being mentioned quite frequently. However I have no clue what a light novel actually is. I imagine it's a manga "book" but with more dialogue.
 
They're pretty much like novels here, just there's a bunch of them and they're published more frequently. I have the first Shana light novel, along with the Death Note one (Death Note: The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases), and they're basically like regular books here.

I don't really get the difference much between them and our books. They're pretty much the same thing.

How about this from the actual show? That art on MAL is pretty much similar to the visual novel cover art.

Oh. I didn't know they were just books. When thinking of the term "light novel" I pictured books with pictures but just with more dialogue. Thanks for telling me what they really are as I literally had no clue.


Anyways I think what we were talking about wasn't an argument but more of a discussion. I have friends that watch every episode of "insert never-ending anime here" and I just can't comprehend how they do it since they bitch about fillers all the time. I wouldn't, and don't, put up with it.


Also can you answer me another question? What's a visual novel?

They don't. Rurouni Kenshin started in the 90's, way before stuff like that would come. Cano gets annoyed easily I guess. He probably for example would find Naruto so annoying he'd go bald.

He should take the Naruto test. If you find Naruto annoying, you'll find lots of characters annoying, and can get annoyed easily.

And I won't even try Naruto. Just by looking at the kid I'm annoyed. The lines in his cheeks make me wanna punch his face 'till I bleed. He looks stupid when he is serious, and laughable when he is mad. It's an awful character.

As usual in anime.
