ah, yeah, Voices from a distant star was a completely independant project. the dude animated, designed... hell, he and his wife even made the voices. it looks unreal. for a completely indepemndant film, its quality is unbelieveble. the only thing I didnt reall like is that she fights in her normal outfit. other than that, it was astounding, and stupidly sad, indeed.

no nk4e, it isnt a pic of mai :P it was an attempt to take 3 lain drawings (lain, and 2 bg images) and merge ith another background in bryce, everything was working fine, until i had aw lain, needless to say lain was drawing too small and looks stupid, i couldnt even get proper coloring into it... heaven help everyone if i evr actually start a site for cg, this goes straight to the crap folder, maybe to be re attempted at a later date when i have a shred of skill.

i dont think i can really ask people for help, it is just about practise, everyone prodices horrible cg when they first start, i also need an idea, or pry myself away from other projects (i spent all cmas break working on a game that i've been working on for about a year and a half, starting to take shape now, and i already have the 2nd chapter for the game planed :) )

i think it's a cool looking picture.
even if it's not exactly as you imagined it, it certainly conveys those "lost" and "dark" feelings that SE:Lain emotes.

nice one!

thnx, i think if i remake it later i will do a nice bryce bg, after all that was started as a test, and draw lain a lot larger, i just started a new lain pic today, i can post the orig image i'm using a guid if anyone wants to see, it is of the video game version of lain, so far i am pleased as to how it is turning out. btw welcome too the thread

no its just ridiculous, yeah klike excel sagea but really serious, the enemis announce their attcacks on televiosn like a movie preview. again its just liek NGE but no wierd ****, theres the wimpy makle main character and his overconfidnet redhead companion living in the same house and the third pilot is this souless girl who never talks, im gonna pass out.

its animated by the same bunch who made TENCHI, its horribly flaming the guy wears pink, but fun to watch at least.
makin me want to watch that anime

the whole thing is a sham, it should be called Neon Genesis Tenchigaleon. however its a very entertaining sham :) the inbetween scenes come close to your favorite "quantum leap" episodes, you get to see how really concieted the characters were before they meet their alt univerese selves. it was really cool. the mech fights,(reminding you they were refered to as unit1, unit2, ect. and held similar color, size, shape, mechanics, of another series begging with 'neon genisis') added nothing to the story, actually each story element had really nothing to do with another, but with a great sense of creativty, it was somehow concluded. yaay~!

main character: kazki?: Tenchi is Twice the man.
girl: mitsuki:take "releena peacecraft" and "asuka" and add a little iron chef, you get it, a selfserving BBBIIIIIOTTTTTTCCCCHHHH, but she is the most dynamic (and appreciative)character in the story. >]

moving on~
anyone seen the 'on your mark' ghibli music video?

ok, hopefully this post will work, (i've been trying to post for awhile now but gtp is unbearably slow, ie, i waited over 40 min to let the text ii typed in a post this morning try to show upo and it didnt...)anyway, my last two drawings were crap, didnt look right, heres a smaller version of my scan that i'm doing right now, which brings me to my next point, hey kirkis, do you know how i could go about finding tips on how to color in the style that you see commonly associated with lain? you know, kind of looks like it is colored by oil pastels or something, something like this: http://www.anime-zone.narod.ru/wall/lain/lain-bjc-b03.jpg

btw can anyone give me ideas on how to get better on how draw girls of anime well just look at my example

now, for some drawing tips. first off, if you really want to draw like that (good sketch) you of course need first to know how to draw the human anatomy to almost perfection. lenght of the arms, body, legs... render out the muscles, of course all of this into total proportion. this takes time and practice, and a real eye, but you can always make a skeleton of lines and circles (circles being the articulations, and your head, lines being your arms and legs. use a square to represent the chest) and try away like that. if you want to make a perfectly proportioned drawing, the arms and legs should have the exact same lenght, but as anime and manga are stylish, the legs will always be a bit longer than arms, and often, the characters will have wide backs and chests. this isnt correct, but it looks really good once you develop it. as for the face, the ears must be exactly between the eyes and the end of the nose. try it out on yourself, from there you can start making sketches of how a face should look, even putting anime eyes into it. try to make faces wider, too. these are some little tips based on what I saw in your drawing. just keep practicing dude, it is the only way.

btw kirkis name this mech

That's the most communistic looking Gundam I've ever seen. Talk about your Soviet tanks.

i guess an effective sketch holds the lines that are necessary, this isnt a good example of that. but simplifed very mcuh. the remains of the initial sketch arent even visable anymore, stand by for a better example.

here we go on a quick anime tutorial!

materials:
+ corel painter (classic or 4-7 will do)
only reason for using this is the drawing aspect and control of your brushes. water colers/overlay tools are essential.

+ photoshop 6 or 7
use this thing for color balances.

+~a good sktech!~ perhaps the hardest part.

step 1:

draw something!, the initial idea in your head is always the best, and dont take to long. Like a van halen guitar solo: its fast, distinct, and entertaining.
symetry is paramount and artistic discipline must be a godlike level :)

note: draw it in a pure color, blue, red yellow, ect.

step 2:
ok, manage to get a good character down, but the sketch is a bit rough. the groundwork is already done, the rest is purely technical. the character has the lines mapped out, now its time to put down thinner more distinct edges wtih a black pen (inking :P) keep the other color there.
