You will as Japan will consume your soul. Damn marketing geniuses...

Finally watched Rebellion. And wow, that ending. But I have some questions

  • Homura ripped Madoka of her God status and becomes a God herself. However, she becomes a demon, right?
  • Now that Homura is the devil, she recreates the universe so Madoka can exist. So is the Madoka in Homura's world just a normal girl now?
  • Homura declares Madoka to be her enemy. Can I still call this love? What made Homura turn into the devil was love in desperation, but...
  • Kyubey's species was wiped out?
  • The remaining girls (Sayaka, Nagisa...) become normal girls in Homura's rebuilt world, right?
  • Kyubey's ultimate goal was to control Godoka?
  • Could there be another season? Madoka still retains some of her God abilities, so she might "fight" against Homura in attempts to amend her own will. Homura basically takes Godoka's place as universal overseer but Madoka is still a threat.

After finishing it, I spent more time than I should have speculating on this single movie. My brain is literally mashed with it. I know very well that I'll be spending some time pondering over this show.

1) She calls herself a "devil" as a metaphor for her going against the will of "god" (Madoka). However, she has phenomenal cosmic powers either way, so it really makes no difference.
2) No. The "Madoka" we see at the end of the film is one of two fragments; the part of her that is a real-world being. The other part - the "Law of Cycles", as they call it - is isolated away from her. Homura ripped the two parts away from eachother, but if they were ever to reconnect, Madoka could erase everything that Homura did.
3) She doesn't declare Madoka her enemy; she says, effectively, that it is inevitable that they will become enemies, because of their very different goals. Homura, inarguably, loves Madoka - but she feels that Madoka was blind in her own selflessness, and only made the choice to become "god" because of her circumstances at the time. It's often interpreted that Madoka's universe was born from selfless love, and Homura's was born from selfish love - but how selfish is it to create a universe in which everyone, yourself included, can be happy? Homura does everything she does for Madoka's sake - and I'm sure that if Madoka saw it in that way, that they could never be enemies.
4) No, again; they are being kept at bay by Homura's power. If they're removed entirely, then universal entropy would continue - which is bad. They basically serve the same function as they did in Madoka's universe, except they have no control over the magical girls anymore; Homura got mad with them for screwing with Madoka's universe, so she can't risk that happening again. They're still alive, but subordinates to Homura.
5) We don't know. The fact that Sayaka's wish remains true despite her still being alive is puzzling, as is the scene in which Homura apparently "wipes" her memory of the previous universes. It's up for debate whether or not there are even still magical girls in the new universe.
6) To manipulate Godoka, and restore the "Witch" system, in order to gain more energy to stave off universal entropy. Battling Wraiths gets them enough energy, but Kyubey is greedy and wants more.
7) I certainly hope so. My prediction is that, due to contact with the Wraiths, some of Madoka's power will be restored, cuing a battle between Homura and Madoka - who will then have to settle their differences in order to beat the Wraiths (who will probably be more powerful as a result of there being fewer magical girls to balance them out). Following that, there are two possible outcomes; firstly, that they beat the Wraiths, and Madoka will choose to live in Homura's world despite her having regained her powers, so that the two can be together. Alternatively, both Madoka and Homura die beating the Wraiths. That's just my 100% fanon prediction, though, and I'm likely to be wrong. ;P

Pretty good series, isn't it?

Yay, spoiler tags are back!

Sayaka is still wearing her ring in the Homuraverse, which implies that they might still have powers, but Homura is suppressing their memories of them.

I don't doubt Homura's capable of managing the Wraith problem herself, though, and feeding them into Kyubey at a pace that is crippling him, (the little bugger.)

Great that you finally locked it in. Yes, you will spend some good time pondering over it, specially after you read some views on it that might make you question what you thought about it. such as:

@Technicolors: My answers aren't 100% definite, but....

I'm going to be a bit finicky for a minute. Let's not simply say "she became" a devil. Through deductive reasoning, she arrived at the conclusion that the only thing that could match the power of a god (and take them out) would most likely have to be the devil, hence she assumes that status.

The Madoka in Homura's world is still the same Madoka (flesh and blood) whom she just ripped the god power from. When she recreated the world, her friends got brought into it.

Unsure about the love bit. Kyubey's species is... I don't know. I like to think the Incubators have not been eliminated as that would deplete all chance of a follow-up, which there still is potential for (imho). What I think we saw was the Incubators being forcefully given the ability to feel emotion and pain for the first time, hence the cringing.

I think Homura has wiped their memory of knowing they are witches. I'd think they still are, just like how Madoka still has her god powers. The circumstance is that so long no one remembers what they were, their powers remain dormant.

Yes, Kyubey's goal was to control Godoka. Madoka wanted the Incubators from harvesting energy obtainable from dying magical girls, so she changed up some rules (by recreating the universal rule of their life cycle), but then the Incubators just worked around it to find some way to still continue to harvest energy. This time, they can just harvest it from Godoka herself.

Could theere be another season? Orobuchi did a great job with the ending. Even if there won't be, he leaves it off hinting possibilities. As much as I don't like when things get turned into cash cows, I actually don't mind if he does another sequel.

Madoka is only a "threat" in that she can easily reverse everything Homura has done to accomplish what she did by the end of the film. I'm sure you wouldn't want people undoing all your hard work. That's how she is perceived as an enemy to Homura. The beautiful part of this relationship is that they are still best of friends so the struggle to find mutual agreement is why the plot is now so fascinating.

Great views by both of you gentlement. I agree on some stuff on both opinions, and disagree in others. But in the end I think that makes this show ever more enjoyable 👍

Thanks for the responses.

Very good series. When I first saw this show, I thought it was just any regular magical girl show. I think anyone who's new to it would think so. It still has magical girl elements, but how it went is nothing I would have ever expected.

Yup. I'm still pondering. The Puella Magi wiki has some very interesting speculation on the movie. And a lot of it I agree and disagree on. I'm sure bloggers have caught on and made their own theories too.

What about the Nendoroid Darth Vader and Nendoroid Storm Trooper? My wallet is already weeping...

Yeah no Gurren Lagann or Cowboy Bebop tho. Not even a Nui Harime!

Hell, I'd stretch to Yurippe or Angel Kanade from Angel Beats at a pinch! :P

I can't say judge about her personality yet, there has only been 4 episodes so far. I haven't read the manga either, just going solely by character design.

I've heard that SAO2 is pretty generic so far... >.> even if it wasn't there's not way I'd watch SAO2 because hating on SAO as a series is the cool thing on the internet, right guys?

right?

SAO has been generic all throughout season 1.. I actually can't say that as I only did up to episode 14 and jumped to the last 2 episodes. It's just stupidly popular... like K-ON. If people have a crazy attachment to a character, they'll find reasons to love the show despite the quality of the plot.

I do it too, though I try my best not to.

I don't think I have much to say other than "I agree with you."

Then again, I'm also guilty of watching an anime just for one single character. Happens all the time. At least they're always good animes.

Is it deep? No. Is it entertaining? Yes. It's starting off pretty slow however.
IMO the first season tried a bit too hard to get fans to like it. Unfortunately it worked, though I can't think of a reason why anyone would pay more attention to SAO than they would .hack or Log Horizon. Basically SAO but better.

I actually kind of liked the first season... the first half of the first season. It was okay. I enjoyed some of it but when episode 14 hit, it didn't improve from there on for me. Terrible show.
