The Graphics

So what do you guys think of the graphics? I think theyre pretty average considering 3 things.

1. This game has been in development for 5 years.

2. Its made by Polyphony Digital.

3. And its a PS3 exclusive and we all know how good PS3 exclusives can and
should look.

Hopefully when PD or Sony said that this demo isnt a full representation of the final game, they were addressing the graphics too. The 200mb file size is the only thing that gives me hope at the moment. I think we will be seeing replys from Yamauchi in a few days.

Yeah... I'm disappointed ,too. Only in graphics, though. I *love* improved physics.
Visually, I don't see much difference (if at all) from 2007 Prologue.

Anyway, when you start up the demo, it says..
"Welcome to Gran Turismo 5 Time Trial Challenge.
This is the demo version of the upcoming Gran Turismo 5, due for release in 2010."
Yeah... I'm disappointed ,too. Only in graphics, though. I *love* improved physics!!
So I believe this is representation of final GT5 in terms of visual and/or physics.

Have you tried using the two new options which are flicker reduction and smoothing? Anyway I knew somebody would post a thread like this.

Look at the size of memory and It's demo for free. Kaz teasing on you kids. Wait til March 2010.

A word that sounds like a river in Egypt comes to mind...

Fact is, this game looks like crap, and it is NOT just because of the track in question. I have seen this track on the TV many times, and realistic this is not. Far to flat and bland. If you think the final game will be significantly better...haha!! As for the controls...

Why are you here? Seems like you're just stirring...
Stirring what? The fact is, this game looks no better than Prologue, and in some ways, not as good. Controls are subjective depending on what you are using and what you prefer in a racer, but this game looks naff compared to Forza III. If this is what the final game will look like (as indicated in the on-screen text in the game), they took a step backwards as far as I am concerned.

Guys,

don't worry to much.

This is definitely a tuned down version of the game.

Has anybody wondered why this package is only 200mb.

It will look much better in the full game, dont worry.

And even IF that's true, (havent used on my HD TV yet), Prologue STILL has better graphics than any other console game out, including Forza III.

As to the OP, what were you expecting? How much romm is there for improvement? Or are you talking about meaningless crap like how the fans in the top row look to you, based on your eyesight, off your TV?

Jinx is right. The graphics in this demo are actually worse than Prologue. I think people were expecting too much improvement on the same hardware and they were being a little too optomistic. But the graphics WILL be at least a little better than this demo. A lot of the textures and such are flat, and the file size is a clear indication of that. The 201MB doesn't even fill up the RAM on the PS3, and even with 15 more cars, it would hardly be pushing the boundaries of the PS3 (infact far from it)

Though there is a possibility that you are right, that PD cut down the graphics to include such things as damage and weather that people have been asking for. It might even make way for better framerate and less screen tearing. But i doubt this is the case.

The final game isn't going to look any different. It's the standard disclaimer they add to avoid damaging sales, but I'm yet to see a single game (outside of those being beta tested) that has ever shown any improvement in gfx from the demo, to the final version. I think it looks fine anyway.

I still think the low speed-physics are pretty bad though.

Frankly I would have taken this game 18 months ago without all the silly NASCAR stuff and damage.

I don't think there's much they could release now that would please me. I'm just fed-up of waiting. Another six months yet as well.

Something has to give, and unfortunately, if people want all this extra stuff included, with ultra-realistic physics and AI for 15 other cars, graphics are going to suffer. Such is the problem of PD taking so long, promising so much, and then showing off too many intermediate builds.

Well put.

I'm just fed-up of waiting.

No one is forcing you to wait... They're not tailoring a game specifically for you, and you've yet to pay for the game, so they dont owe you anything and can take as long as they like.

Really I'm so sick of hearing people saying they're fed up with waiting, if you have 100$'s (60 in america or w/e) and want a racing game go ahead and buy one, why is it you have to wait for GT5 and why is it you must keep complaining about it when there are other racing games than GT. Now if you're saying that you enjoy none of those other racing games that's hardly PD's fault is it?

I don't think the graphics will be improved any further. I just think they dumbed them down for this demo. Many people agree with me, there have been so many comments and discussion about the 201MB filesize.

To download this I require the following key things:

- PS3
- TV
- Router
- Phone line
- Broadband
- Power
- Cables
- Property to house it all

Therefore I have paid for it.

I don't believe for one second the graphics will be any worse than GT5P's, and it seems idiotic to think otherwise, JMO.
But really, I just don't care, it seems like they actually, (finally) nailed the physics down. I can't speak for FWD/4WD, but RWD is looking mighty good. (maybe a bit much wheelspin, it does burnout through 2nd on N3's)

I highlighted everything stupid in that quote. In pretty BOLD. :D

Uhh, Kaz has specifically stated that the Demo is showing off ONLY the new physics. Check the news section.

Your mouth capacity hath exceeded your brain volume. Good luck with that.

Have a nice day.

PD aren't like all the other publishers, and this time trial isn't an official demo, especially considering they don't advertise any of the big new features of GT5. I too think its looks fine, but i've driven on the Tokyo track, and it is better graphics than this cut back time trial.

If PD can't please you, thats your fault. If you were fed up of waiting, why not just give-up waiting, then 'six months' will pass very quickly.

As for you TokyoDrift, seriously, what happened to reasonable argument? PD made you buy all that stuff? Should all PS3 games be free?
You know for sure that the full game will look equal to a small time trial stage?
GT5 will be an Epic fail? and you think Forza 3 graphics is so fantastic even though GT5P is clearly better graphics?

I think it looks pretty good... if you guys think there will be any significant difference in GT5 I'm sure you will be disappointed.

It depends how the file is compressed. I've downloaded programs on PC programs that have expanded to 900mb from a 240mb zip file and take 500mb of RAM when I start them.

Maybe the PS4 will have three GPU's and lots of ram so that you guys can have the most realistic graphics available.

I see a lot of you are expecting the PS3 to use more power than its got. Argue all you want with me on that but I am pretty sure PD has the graphics , physics etc on its limits of what the PS3 can do. If you dont like dont buy it. Yes you are entitled to your opinion but the ps3 isnt that super computer you all want it to be.

Although I must be a hyprocrite and complain myself , because (this is my only gripe) there is no roof cam like there was in GT4 and GT5:P I hope the roof cam is in the final game.

While on the topic, has anyone compared the new options... flicker reduction and the sharpen options? I tried them both out but didnt notice anything significant. Has anyone else?

I take it you have played this and read the text? It is a demo of Gran Turismo 5, the purpose of which is to support the 2010 GT Academy.

We could argue what they mean as demo, the demo's Mr Pink Trousers are referring to are limited examples of what the final game will be, including a whole bunch of advertising to let you know what will be in the final game.

This 'demo' is of driving physics and really nothing more.
The demo in the general term is what we got when Forza 3 released thier demo.

If GT5 is released in the same demo format as the ones your comparing it to, then by all means the argument of no real change in graphics stands.

Have you seen the GT5 Tokyo demo in real life? Its very obvious the engine they used in that 'demo' is significantly different to the one in this 'demo'.
