The Grind is Getting Me Down Man

Is it possible to get 100% in Gran Turismo 5 without repeating a single race? I doubt anyone has achieved it (100%) yet, but I'd feel totally safe in saying that you cannot with repeating races/ grinding.

If I come last in a race, you would expect to have to redo it. But if you're winning every race and still have do redo some (for cash, XP etc), there is something wrong. Plus the races are usually so boring I am barely interested the first time, let alone however many times I'm going to have to redo them.

What a shame. When you buy a racing game you certainly don't expect to find yourself playing something which can nearly be classified as an RPG.

Wow. I just read this entire thread. Talk about grinding!

I think it is a good thing that so many are complaining about this. It is exactly what they were probably trying to achieve. Without an investment of time all they have is an instant gratification kiddie game. This game is deep and it is designed to hone skills which can only be honed via hard work, long hours, trial and error and a lot of dedication. Call it a grind. I call it a great way to develop one's skills as deep as possible. I politely disagree with the complaints here. I think a game as polished as this one is as close to state-of-the-art perfection as it gets.

Grinding is doing the same thing over and over again despite mastering simply to gain enough resources to get to the next level. I'm sorry, I'm playing a video game, not having another day at the job.

This wasn't a problem with previous Gran Turismo games.

For competing the championships no, then again as I have said I am now level 25 and have repeated 6 races, all the Indy race of the American Championship so I don't know what other people are doing. However if you wanted all the cars GT games were all exactly the same.

Sure, apart from the ridiculous used lot.

Strange thing is, grinding in FFXIII wasn't nearly as bad as GT5. At least there were battles you could fight quickly to gain a large amount of xp.

I find it interesting that some people seem to need to grind a lot while others don't. Maybe there's a certain strategy one must follow? Note: I'm only lvl 17 still so I haven't gotten to the grinding part yet.

Do we even know of the used car lot is on a cycle yet? If it is it is the same as GT4.

Doesn't seem to be one to me, and I've been checking after every race all night.

I've seen three of the same exact car (color and mileage too) in a six car "just in"

I only say this as my housemate and I have had things like the blue Formula GT appear at the same time.

You even have to repeat races in B-spec, for **** sake PD, it's boring enough watching what essentially is a replay in which you can change the outcome without being made to grind for xp to progress as well!

I'm not sure honestly.

I've seen three Superbirds in one update, and that's the only time I;ve seen them. But I seem to get a version of the skyline and civic every single time.

I have bought about ten cars I thought were pretty cool though

I seem to always make money, granted I let the B-Spec guy do his thing for most of the day. I know I am a exception to the rule. I noticed that some people have said the races are boring. Have you tried building a car that is the same as the cars that are in the car example list on the track select screen and then try to win the race. You won't be bored since you will not be driving a 700 HP beast against 340 HP AI cars. You will be racing evenly match for the most part. You might not win at all so you will make some brake adjustment, and down-force and so on and try again.

No because that just prolongs the agony of having to watch it. It's a boring format, it always was and always will be. They should have left it how it was in GT4 for the guys like yourself who find it interesting instead of giving it a whole mode of it's own. I know people will say you don't have to play it but it would be one of those things bugging me every time I look at the screen and see B-spec level 0.

I understand what you are saying about B-Spec. I do not watch it. I just check on it every now and then to see if he is finish racing. He is a high level so the races take 20 mins or more in some cases. The exception to the rule part, is I work from home so he does his 8 hours of work, while I do my 8 hours in the office.

Where's the Capri Rally event with the Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car prize car??
Do we have anything like this in GT5 yet?

I'm pretty sure grinding will be much easier once you reach level 20 since that is where much of the money is won from.

So we're grinding to level 20?

Let's face it, when parts of the game are dependent on leveling, there will always be grinding, especially when the levels are as spread out as they are in GT5.

Level rewards are always welcome, but needing to level is what turns the enjoyment into a grind.

It was a problem with BSpec. Fastpath to everything except license golds. No dexterity sharpening, just mindless accumulation of money and cars.

Wasn't a problem with previous games in the series.

One of those has no place in modern game design, and has nothing to do with skill. And GT4 did all but that one anyways.

GT4 allowed this as well. The only difference was it was the player's prerogative to seek out doing so. GT5 instead forces the player to do so whether they want to or not.

I was "grinding" but didn't even realize it. I viewed it as enforced practice for which I could pick and choose which races and special events to "grind" in order to move up. The enforced practice is a good thing. It makes me a better player.
