Has anyone seen this very cool movie. I saw it yesturday (spelling?). Man, it was the coolest ever, can't even describe it. The best part for me is when the grudge thing appears under a womans bed and drags her under the bed., actually everything was.

[BTW, I looked at the first 5 pages and a similar thread did not show up.]

Great post, RX-7. Really adds something to the conversation.

Anyway, I saw it last week on opening night, and it was really good. The acting is pretty bad, but that's what I expected from a horror movie. That Sam Raimi was involved in this project really shows, because the tension is top-notch. It's truly frightening.

For me, the best scene was when the detective is watching the security tapes and the girl comes out of the shadows, then disappears out of the camera's range, then slides right into view close-up with those freaky eyes. I was pissing my pants.

Was it the US remake with Sarah Michelle Whatever ?....

Ohh... Just read the full thread incl. Andertons post.. I assume it is then.. Well.. All I can say is - You missed out on the spookyness ;)

I have heard the Japanese version was better, but this wasn't the case for me with Ringu vs. The Ring...I guess I'll give it a try someday. And Bryce, I didn't really like Saw all that much...The Grudge is by far a better movie.

I highly recommend you get your lazy ass off the couch and pick up :
Ju-On and Ju-On 2
These are the prequels to The Grudge. TV movies, but very very scary. Not your average US TV movie !... And pick them both up and watch the immediatly after each other !.. If you only see Ju-On, you'll be as confused as a hungry baby in a titty bar when it ends!...

Then deal with The Grudge, and the Grudge 2 afterwards !...

Saw this last night at my local Odeon Cinema. I have to say, for a 15 Certificate it's one of the scariest films I have seen. The security camera scene is freaky and the strange clicking noise the woman was making at the end scared the crap out of me.

 is that Micheal Jackson in your avatar? J/P

I went with a group of about 15 friends. I jsut had to sit next to the one girl who can't take scary movies. Before the movie even started she had already knocked my drink into my lap and spilt some of my popcorn.

The movie was great. I loved it. It was scary as hell. Plus, having a hot girl attached to your arm isn't bad either. :)

My local rental shop had the Japanese one. That was pretty scary. Anyone seen both the Japanese and Hollywood versions? Which is better/scarier?

With the Ring, I thought the Japanese one had slightly better plot & acting, but Hollywood version was just downright terrifying. It's still the scariest movie I've ever seen. They are filming the Hollywood version sequel in Oregon, where I live.

I think it tried too hard to be scary, and once you get used to the appearance of the creature it loses it's power. Also coffee percolators aren't scary. (which is basically the noise the creature made)

There were times in the film I was legitimately scared, but for the most part I thought the movie was pretty unrealistic.

P.S: I hate it when mundane things make loud, sudden noises in horror movies. It's the cheesiest way to illecit a shock, and this movie uses it early and often.

I'll give it about a 6 out of 10, because Sarah Michelle Gellar and the Japanese chick in the beginning are hot.

I just watched this movie and I personally thought it sucked. In my opinion it is a cheap rip off of "THE RING" or "DARKNESS FALLS". If you want a good scary movie then watch Darkness falls and The ring. This movie was no where near as good as those two IMO. 👎

I thought it was a ok. I liked the Japanese version "Ju-on(I think it was called)" little bit better.

Saw this at the theater a little while ago, not many movies make me jump, but this one did, wasnt a bad flick at all:tup:

I saw this a while ago and I thought it was really cool. Very freaky, quite a few shock scares as well. Having SMG in it helps as well. The Japanese sure know how to make scary movies. I can't remember if this was directed by the same guy who did Ju-On but even if it wasn't it still felt like a mivie which didn't come out of Hollywood.

Two more things.
1) Cat boy = Disturbingly scary.
2) I recently discovered that I can make the same clicky noise that the grudge woman makes in the movie. I have been creeping up behind skittish friends and doing that and watching them shiver in fear. Tis funny.

So the movie kicked ass. My favorite of 2004, and on Feb. 1, its going to finally be released on DVD. BTW, I've also seen the Japanese version too. I think that the American version is better and scarier.

I'm getting my copy next weekend on Best Buy, along with the new Motley Crue album.

Yes, I agree... Usually, the original Japanese versions are better... Personally, I'm getting a bit tired of the Hollywood basterdized versions of import films...

;)

The Grudge is out on DVD today, and to say the truth, I've have watched it at least 3 times today, and I'm still NOT tired of seeing it. IMO its the best movie evere made.

Best movie ever...... Watched it three times today......

I thought the movie was pretty scary, but you scare me more :D

I didn't like it. I thought the movie was actually a little rediculous. The sound the evil girl made was equivalent to a sound a little kid would make when trying to annoy someone. I'm sure you can figure out what im talking about.. I can recreate the sound with ease. I would have much rather had something a bit scarier.

The movie was alright, but the ending sucked. :)
