KARTING

THIS FORTNIGHT'S THEME

This week, we'll use the smallest « car » of the game. Last winner @wowbaggerBR set this theme, here are the details :

« There is one type of racing car that we all colectively ignored through dozens of LEC editions: go karts. So, this fortnight, the challenge is to give some love to the corner stone of the motorsport world: your task is to come up with liveries for the Racing Kart 125 Shifter.

I want you all to be original in your creations, but you may use inspiration from iconic liveries and brands, just try to not just replicate what has been done.
»

GENERAL COMPETITION RULES

ENTRY SUBMISSION

- The only way you can take part is to be a member of the GTPlanet forums. If you haven't created your account yet, click here
- Mark your FINAL ENTRY clearly, with red text.
- Unsure how to? Copy and paste the following:
Code:
[COLOR=red][B]FINAL ENTRY[/B][/COLOR]
- One entry per user. It must be your own work, and never previously used in a competition.
- You may change your entry once. Do it clearly; edit out your previous entry, and either post the new one in a new reply, or in place of the original.
- Do not post "Honourable Mentions" or outtakes - just your Final Entry, that's all.
- Absolutely no entries which utilize edited/hacked file saves.

- Winner gets to choose the following Fortnight's theme.
- Winners cannot enter in their own theme!
- The Host may ask for the original image/livery and it must be submitted if so.
- It's recommended to share the original livery online (in-game) to prove it’s your work.
- Winner, second and third places will have to share the links of the liveries for the Hall of Fame thread

ENTRY PRESENTATION

- All images shall have preview images which may not exceed 640 pixels in either direction (main and bonus pictures)
- You have to post two main pictures of your entry using the mandatory locations and settings as shown below
- You are allowed to post two bonus pictures in a spoiler with free location and settings (unless the unique restrictions of the week’s theme specify something else)
- You have to make one post with ONLY the 4 pictures and the FINAL ENTRY mark. If you want to add precisions/background story/links, you are allowed to double-post under your entry. The best way to do it will be to "reply" to your own post.

- It is recommended you host your image either here on GTPlanet (via the Media section), or on Flickr
- Not sure how to submit your image? Here's a guide for both methods mentioned above.
- A preview image must be representative of the full-size image. Do not add effects to it.
- Please use a clickable-preview to full-size, not a separate text link for it; it makes poll creation much easier!
- No heavy post-game editing, slight enhancing is allowed.

MANDATORY PICTURES

- You have to post a front quarter view and a rear quarter view of your car.
- You can choose between the Shiretoko 03 location or the White Sands 01/09 locations. No other location will be allowed for the main pics.

FINAL ENTRY
McLaren MCL-33 Kart Edition

Livery Link
I was sitting clueless as many of you guys, but then I got struck with an idea. My fellow countryman Fernando Alonso has a karting academy/circuit, and the designs of his karts have a common pattern: they all have a big vertical line on the front, have multiple colors (3 or 4), and his logos are present everywhere.

And so I used this information to create a design that would be present in one of his karts, while giving it my own touch and also trying to pay hommage to Alonso's "last" race in F1 with the MCLaren MCL-33.

I myself am not very creative when it comes to coming up with my own livery. Especially when there isn't much real estate to work with. So I went with a different kind of challenge, scale down a full size livery to fit on this Hot Wheels sized race vehicle. Always loved the Sonax Mercedes so I figured that would be the one to do.

I wanted to do something that I hope would stand out for one reason or another so had the idea of a 3D effect livery, the only problem then was deciding upon sponsors. I eventually settled on Red Bull as they've got a big Motorsport connection and have also done a variety of unique liveries over the years. I started with a matte base masking the whole car and set about laying the various sponsors and details before adding the 3D effect with different coloured versions of those decals underneath the main white version. Finally time for a lie down after that.

I already mentioned my failed first idea about a livery inspired by a helmet.
It was a helmet by Sean Bull.
Since a couple of weeks, I can't stop making some of his F1 concepts (and Mark Antar's ones too) so it seemed obvious to me to use that great design he made for a 2021 Minardi.

I went with a Gran Turismo nostalgia theme for my entry.

The livery is based off the checkered Weaver signage seen on most of the tracks in GT1 and 2. For the other decals are references to past GT titles such as Complex String and GT Auto to fill out a arguably simple livery.

I'm not expecting to get votes with this honestly, it's a pretty basic design but it means a little something to me at least.
During lockdown I've started a new hobby of woodworking after watching lots of youtube makers and deciding "I could do that!"
Some of the first power tools I've bought are from Proxxon who make small hobby tools. I've made a few liveries of power tool companies (Makita, Stihl, DeWalt) and have been working on a couple of Proxxon ones lately. This theme made me realise a kart is actually the perfect fit for the brand being so small, like a hobby car. :)
My favourite decal is the bull icon on the rear plate - the table saw has a sticker with it on to tell you not to put too much pressure on the wood and it works as a "don't ram me!" sticker on the back of the kart.

I'm not sure I've read carefully the theme and I have some doubts about my entry now.
