Stepping Up!
full

THIS MONTH'S THEME

It's time for all those secondary sponsors of your favourite racing cars to finally step up and become main sponsors. Take any secondary racing car sponsor or maybe even one that has nothing to do with racing yet and create a livery for them where they are the main sponsor of the car. LEC 04 winner @RealJaySee chose this theme, so let's hear what he's got to say:

"Take any roadcar and create a nice racing livery for it. No replicas this time, you are the designer for a brand new racing team. The main sponsors are limited to "small" sponsors : No companies that have ever fully sponsored a professional race team.“

Please read the rules below to make sure you don't miss anything when you post your entry, as ignoring them can get you disqualified.

CARS:
  • Any road legal car

BODY PARTS / WIDEBODY:
  • Allowed, the car must be equipped with hoodpins, tow hooks and, if available, a rollcage

LIVERIES:
  • Original designs for a sponsor that has never been a racing car's main sponsor before

UNIQUE RESTRICTIONS:
  • -

BONUS PICTURE SETTINGS:
  • One track shot

USER MADE DECALS:
  • Allowed

GENERAL COMPETITION RULES

ENTRY SUBMISSION

  • The only way you can take part is to be a member of the GTPlanet forums. If you haven't created your account yet, click here.
  • Mark your FINAL ENTRY clearly, with red text.
  • Unsure how to? Copy and paste the following: FINAL ENTRY
  • One entry per user. It must be your own work, and never previously used in a competition.
  • You may change your entry once. Do it clearly; edit out your previous entry, and either post the new one in a new reply, or in place of the original.
  • Do not post "Honourable Mentions" or outtakes - just your Final Entry, that's all.
  • Absolutely no entries which utilise edited/hacked file saves.
  • Winner gets to choose the following month’s theme. (Subject to change in the future eventually)
  • Winners cannot enter their own theme!
  • The organisers may ask for the original image/livery and it must be submitted if so.
  • It's recommended to share the original livery online (in-game) to prove it’s your work.

ENTRY PRESENTATION
  • All images shall have preview images which may not exceed 640 pixels in either direction (main and bonus pictures).
  • You have to post two main pictures of your entry using the mandatory location and settings as shown in the quote below.
  • You are allowed to post two bonus pictures in a spoiler (
...
) with free location and settings (unless the unique restrictions of the week’s theme specify something else).
  • You have to make one post with ONLY the set allowed number of pictures and the FINAL ENTRY (see above) mark. If you want to add precisions/background story/links, you are allowed to double-post under your entry, but please put all additional images in a spoiler. The best way to do it will be to "reply" to your own post.
  • It is recommended you host your image either here on GTPlanet (via the Media section), or on Flickr.
  • Do not attach photos to your entry post directly, they would only appear as links in the poll.
  • Not sure how to submit your image? Here's a guide for both methods mentioned above.
  • A preview image must be representative of the full-size image. Do not add effects to it.
  • Please use a clickable-preview to full-size, not a separate text link for it; it makes poll creation much easier!
  • No post-game editing of any entry image is allowed.
  • Please mark your entry with which platform you're on and which mode you're using, whether it’s taken on PS4 Base, PS4 Pro, PS5 Raytracing or PS5 Framerate.

MANDATORY PICTURES
  • You have to post a front and a rear quarter view of your car:
    • Mandatory Scape: S&Company East, Saitama, Japan (scape number 5)
    • Focal Length: ~80mm ±5mm
    • Aperture: f5.6 or f8.0
    • Shutter Speed: 1/1 Second
    • Exposure Correction: +0.5 to +1.0
  • Do not use any Filters or Effects at all and only the camera setting above within the allowed limits; the pictures are supposed to be as equal as possible for all entries and not give anyone who is a bit more savvy with the Scapes Camera an advantage! Try to stay as close to how the video shows the shot to be taken as possible!
NOTE: if you have previously entered, just go to Scapes > My Library > click your previous entry > Open Scapes > change car to the new entry, refocus and snap a new photo. No need to reposition the camera/car unless its proportions are wildly different.

Please, ensure you read and understand all requirements for this competition. Failure to follow the rules may result in disqualification. If you have questions, ask them in this thread or start a convo with me and/or Matski.

SECOND NOTE: Repeat offenders will be disqualified. If your entry doesn’t match the rules you will be made aware of it at least once, so please keep an eye out for any notifications reaching your profile.

I've seen some nice liveries, in this thread that would suit this.
It's quite a challenge.
Would a drift team be ok @RealJaySee
I was aiming for normal racing teams, so let's keep drift liveries for another LEC
Hmmm.

Such a great idea.

Anyone else worried they’ll submit this cool livery with an obscure “secondary” sponsor, just to have someone point out that a real car was plastered with that thing?? Hahaha
Let's say that when you google "yourcompany racecar" and nothing shows up, it's ok.
I think it should be kept too real companies :scared:
@RealJaySee?
Yes, only real companies
Is widebody, splitters & custom wings allowed too?

I presume they are, but want to check before I start my design
That's allowed!
Should we allow cars like Alfa 4C Gr. 3 Road Car?
I'm fine with that!

Inspired by my racing set up (T300RS on a GT Omega Apex wheel stand). I used the partitioned stripes as a means of representing thrust. The Lancia really plays well with the boxy graphics. And yes, it's got the Nismo engine swap!

As far as iconic Australian brands go, Vegemite is literally #1, so I always thought it weird that they never sponsored race cars.

Based on a (Vegemite coloured) brown metallic base, I designed this livery around the idea of a Gen 3 Supercar ran by Nissan. There’s a fair bit of detail
through it. The strokes I’ve used for example, look similar to when you put that first knife-full of vegemite on a crisp piece of toast. There’s jars of vegemite all over it, and I’ve focused on using their branding colours in a way to really making it pop (out the toaster).

I ended up needing to make this livery twice, after a glitch deleted a near finished version, but I’m pretty happy with how it’s turned out. It may be a risk going for a non-international brand, but for my international mates I have just one question…

Here's one for example:

And while we're at it:
@Hayden feel free to add a second bonus shot.
@ziggedzag please change one of your bonus shots to a track action shot, as per the rules.

;)

And while we're at it... :D
@Adam Barber , Tamiya has also sponsored some race teams. I'm not sure which one, but I used it on one or two liveries I created in the past. Also used on the dakar car below :

This theme was deceptively hard. Finding companies was harder than I thought it would be. I see it is tripping others up as well. 😁

Ok, let's whitelist Tamiya, as it technically falls within the google-rule : if nothing shows up when googling "yourcompany racecarr" you are good to go.

The idea is to rule out the brands we know, and bring something entirely new.

For those who have difficulties finding a sponsor :
  • When searching for decals, you can search for the name of your (or whatever) country (in english and in your own language). High chance some local companies will show up.
  • For those who can create decals themselves : take a look around your house. I currently live in a studio and from where I am sitting, I can see the logo of my refrigerator/microwave, a bottle of olive oil, 10 bottles of liquor, 2 guitars, 2 amplifiers,... all brands that never sponsored a racecar. Didnt even have to leave my sofa :D
I also encourage everyone not to think too much about which sponsor you should take. In real life, its not about how nice their logo is or the product they are selling, its about how much money they bring. The designers of the car are stuck to a specific sponsor, whether they like it or not.

I hope 'Fujimi' is okay, because that's what livery I'd like to do if i get time.

[edit]

If not I'll put the SVG I've created to some other good use.

Fujimi is ok!

I just wonder why model car companies are suddenly so popular... :D

Excellent!

And yes they are indeed all of sudden popular. I did do something (12 years ago now though), using the same logo I'm going to use. :D

[EDIT 3]

Thanks to the moderator for fixing the issue. 👍 And again apologies for forgetting to put my images behind a spoiler.
