These mental gymnastics defy orientable geometry.

How you can twist this into a Klein bottle or Möbius strip is stunning.
I have no idea what you are talking about. But do you really think this president, The guy that shut down travel from China, and the EU thought this was a hoax?

Pull your head out of your butt.

Quit spreading lies. He was joking about less testing. And it wasn't the virus that was a hoax, it was the media hype.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-coronavirus-rally-remark/

Here's what he said:

Trump
One of my people came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia. That didn’t work out too well. They couldn’t do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything, they tried it over and over, they’ve been doing it since you got in. It’s all turning, they lost, it’s all turning. Think of it. Think of it. And this is their new hoax. But you know, we did something that’s been pretty amazing. We’re 15 people [cases of coronavirus infection] in this massive country. And because of the fact that we went early, we went early, we could have had a lot more than that.

So a number that nobody heard of that I heard of recently and I was shocked to hear it, 35,000 people on average die each year from the flu. Did anyone know that? 35,000. That’s a lot of people. It could go to 100,000, it could be 27,000, they say usually a minimum of 27, it goes up to 100,000 people a year who die, and so far we have lost nobody to coronavirus in the United States. Nobody. And it doesn’t mean we won’t, and we are totally prepared, it doesn’t mean we won’t. But think of it. You hear 35 and 40,000 people, and we’ve lost nobody, and you wonder, the press is in hysteria mode.

He's not specifically calling the fact that the virus exists a hoax. But he is calling "hype" around it a hoax. Not just media hype, all hype. Hype for (more) government action. Hype for taking it seriously. It would be more accurate to say that he called the pandemic a "hoax" rather than the virus itself. Trump's message is clear - the notion that we need to take this seriously is fake nooz. The notion that this is a threat, to be taken seriously, requires additional action, requires a change to the way we do business... that is what he's calling a hoax.

We currently sit at 150,000 dead right before the start of August.

The states have power to govern themselves.

I would assume as someone who supports Trump you do not support the right for states to govern themselves. Trump likes to violate the 10th Amendment any chance he gets. If you do support states' rights though, then I'm not entirely sure how you can support Trump without ignoring some of his most glaring unconstitutional practices.

I think the relevant fact is not "how prepared" the US was, or even how relatively good or bad the Covid statistics are compared to other countries, the salient fact is what the contribution of the President has been to the development of those statistics. It's inescapable that the words & deeds of Trump have caused infection rates & deaths in the US to be much higher than they needed to be. The only other country that comes close is Brazil. What do the US & Brazil have in common?

I kinda want to smash this point harder. Trump doesn't get credit for the achievements of Obama, Bush Jr., Clinton, etc. before him. His contribution to the COVID issue needs to stand on its own.

When Fauchi and the other officials were asked about Trump telling them to slow down testing they all said "no". Do I really have to find the video for you?

Thing is, though, Chrunch, most people out there aren't on your level of genius. They don't know how to penetrate through Trump's brilliant sense of humor and see the truth of everything right away. There are a lot of morons out there who, and I know this sounds crazy, take the president at his word. I know, I know, it's silly to expect Trump to understand the weight that his office lends to his words, and conduct himself accordingly. But, all the same, it is what a lot of people expect.

Golly gee, I wonder. Both nations have crazed, corrupt right-wing leaders with fascist tendencies. I won't forget that when the news broke of Bolsonaro winning the presidency, many large pro-Trump right-wing social media accounts cheered and clapped for him.

:(*sniff* I... I salute you, sir. Thank god there are a few normal people left on this godless, communist, never-Trumper forum. *Hail To The Chief plays*

Here is some more ammo for you guys.

I watched every episode of The Apprentice. Maybe I know the guy a little more than most.

Ok your message was there a second ago.

What I am saying is that I get Trump's sense of humor.

One thing he really likes to do is troll the left. His latest troll was about moving the elections back. He knew liberal heads would explode, and they did.

He knows the election date isn't changing, he knows he can't change it. There was absolutely no reason for him to post this other than to antagonize the libs for their support of universal mail in ballots.

So you're okay with your president being nothing more than an internet troll?
Though it gets less funny when his joke becomes a reality.
Which is actually happening in some cases and it's scary. He "joked" about wanting less tests because it would mean less numbers and then we saw news of less funding for testing. It's a joke until it's not.

I can't see how owning the libs will help him win the election, not that, that bothers me any. He will just alienate most people on the fence just so he can have some fun on twitter.
I agree. I don't think he realizes that most people don't 'get' him. He should have his tweets checked by someone who can ask him, really? You really sure you want to tweet that? Just to give him pause.
Though it gets less funny when his joke becomes a reality.
This will never become a reality.
So you're okay with your president being nothing more than an internet troll?
Who, besides you, said he was just an internet troll? He has been an outstanding president.

He certainly stands out amongst the rest. If only he were "just" an internet troll...

I know, it's silly to expect Trump to understand the weight that his office lends to his words, and conduct himself accordingly. But, all the same, it is what a lot of people expect

... because of this.

Pull your head out of your butt.

Based on everything you have said so far that I can read here, you sound more and more like my Dad...

Although you may know trump more than most of us here and more than the majority of people out there, it doesn't change the fact that most of everything trump does or say is simply just not politically correct, or just correct even...

Do you think he has cleared the swamp since he came ?
I think he brought even more trouble...

You really should stop and get your head out of his butt instead, there is much fresher air out there...

I can guarantee you that shutting down travels from other countries onto the US wasn't his first idea and that people in his administration had to convince him, just like he still think the virus is a hoax.

And when he did, it was already too late... His whole attitude towards CoViD19 has been too little too late...

He is more worried about his rating than the impact of the virus has on the American people.

You are giving him way too much credit for such a loose ball that he is...

I can certainly agree with you that he doesn't take things seriously and is always looking to have some fun around... Even during his speech, communication and tweets, but he is the president and he should have been taking the role seriously... He simply is not.

Enough is enough...

Yes, those silly liberals, caring about something as silly as free and fair elections. It really is admirable that conservatives only let their heads explode in the most dire of circumstances - a president wearing a tan suit.

He has been an outstanding president.

I cannot begin to describe how unsettling it is that you actually believe this.

He is the President, my representative on the world stage. I expect my representatives to act professionally and mature, no ifs or buts, even if I disagree with their views. Whether he was actually ‘joking’ or not, this tweet is not a good look for him, let alone the country at large.

And ‘trolling the left?’ Really? I don’t want a President who deliberately alienates perhaps half the country for the sake of it, and this applies to both sides of the aisle. Disagreements are fine. Demonization of any opposition for the sake of it on social media is not.

Probably "outstanding" is not the best term."Consequential" might be better.

Trump's role in history and destiny is to act as provocateur, trickster and change agent. The time is right for major change. Everyone knows that. Few know what comes next, but it assuredly won't be the same as before. Soon he will be gone, but we will be left looking at new pieces in new places.

But change won't come if Biden gets elected.
Oh yes it certainly will. Remember, Biden is incompetent to serve, and his purpose is only to be elected and for the VP to serve. Odds are in favor of a progressive socialist VP, and for neoliberal Democrats across the land to be "primaried" by progressives and socialists.

Note: I will be off to my fishing cabin for a day or two.

He was joking
I'm not sure you understand the weight of responsibility the President holds. There is no room for jokes. Jokes don't exist for the President. You want me to start joking about crashing airplanes while you climb in the back?

He knows the election date isn't changing, he knows he can't change it.
But he wants to. He also "joked" about staying in office longer than two terms. He wants to. That's a nuance you're not understanding.

There was absolutely no reason for him to post this other than to antagonize the libs for their support of universal mail in ballots.
I can't tell if you think this is a bad thing or a good thing. I think it's a bad thing - antagonizing people for no reason is a poor character trait (and yet is a cultural value of Trump conservatives). But you seem to think it's a good thing, presumably because you support cultural values of antagonization and making fun of people and joking about things that are serious business.

What really blows my mind about this is that absentee ballots are mail-in ballots. They're the exact same thing. Because of Covid, we're simply expanding the absentee system. There is absolutely no difference between the request process, the ballot itself, or the mail-in process.
