I've seen bit's on this car over the last couple of weeks in variouse car magazines, the latest issue of Evo even get's chance to sit in it being driven and maybe have a drive too. It's premise is a GT racer for the road, ofcourse we've all heared that before. This is different though, and proven so, you can drive this to a GT race meeting, and provided it fit's into the right class for power and engine ect you can bolt on some slicks and it's competitive. One was driven in a metting in some German GT series and it finished third, no different to the car tested in Evo. However, most road version will be sold without as agressive aerodynamics, the front splitter will be desized and the rear wing removed for most road versions, but they can be put on as they are if you wish. The car can out accelerate pretty much anything that#'s not a dragster, hit's 220+Mph and will cost under £200k. Heres a link for some info.

Damn that is an awesome car. I was reading the article, and it said that its price is to be unmatched by other cars in its proposed class, but I hadn't read the specs on it so I was thinking that it would be somewhere higher than the Lotus Elise, like at the same price as a regular 911 Carrera but with better performance.

Also the DSG gearbox is freaking great, I test drove the A3 on Thursday and damn it shifts up the moment you press the paddle.

To give you a perspective of the class it's in, it can out accelerate McLaren F1, Ferrari Enzo, Porsche Carrera GT and Koenigsegg CC8S amongst others. I's in the 300k+ club, performance wise. However price wise it's going to be under 200k, closer to the likes of an Aston Vanquish, Lambo Murceilago ect. Yes it will be more than an Elise, a lot more, more than a Porsche 911 too, but far, far better performance than anything on sale today.

Yes after I saw the specs I knew that it was still in a higher league than other cars of the same price, just at a higher price to start with.

But think about it.
Try chatting up someone with the line- "Hey, can I buy you a drink? I drive a Gumpert."

Let's face it, if you own one of these you'll only drive it to and frlom a race track and you'l more than likely own an Aston, Ferrari, Porsche or some other high class GT.

ha, that made me laugh. I think you'd get a good slap if you came up with, "Hey babe, wanna take a ride with me and my Gumpert?"

A company called Gumpert is never going to sell many cars. A Ultima 640R is every bit as fast, and only costs £68k

Actually, the audience this car is aiming for, the name WILL sell. Gumpert was the guy who won rallies for Audi. Besides that, if you were going to include the car in a chatup line you'd use the model name in this case, the Apollo. As for the Ultima, yes it's nearly as quick, as quick in acceleration but before any this can beat that claims we really should wait until the times for this are proven and not estimates. In the Evo article it was touted as one of less than a handfull of cars including the McLaren F1 that are brutal, the Ultima isn't like the F1 other than the fact it's very fast, its being in that club of cars, compared to the F1 that will tempt buyers, as well as the premise that you can race it with slicks and do well.

Nope, not at all, but it's form follows function. It's a GT racer thats had numberplates stuck on it, it's not meant to look good, it's meant to go fast round a track. Thats probably the only time anyone will use one of these, and to drive to the track and back.

They could have I suppose, theres a lot gone into the car with dowforce, it generates more than a DTM race car. At least it's ugly but looks like nothing else.

The Carrera GT may be about 150k more expensive, but IMO it's 150k times better looking.

And it's a Porsche.

The Aston DB9 is well over 150k cheaper than the Carrera GT, but it's over 150k better looking than the Carrera GT.

Not too keen on the looks of Astons myself...

I kind of think of this car the way I think about the Corvette C6. In some angles, I think it's lovely. In some others, it isn't so lovely. That's the same way I feel about this Gumpert Apollo. I thought this was a British car company, but all to find out the maker is based in Ingostaldt. I believe this is the same home of another automotive company- Audi.

Gumpert Apollo vs. Ultima GTR would be a nice matchup between these GT racers for the road. Has the Apollo raced yet? I know I've seen the Ultima GTR in racing before, but not the Apollo...

Yep, aversion of the Apollo with the bigger aerodynamics, still the same spec as the road version with the wing entered a GT meeting and it finished third, then they drove it back to the factory.
