There's no accounting for taste, bring on the opinions!

:)

As for me, it's Cape Ring the full track, can't stand it! Looks like the bastard child of Complex String & HSR, my least 2 favourite tracks ever.

 :yuck:

Sarthe.

Never, ever understood the appeal of that track. It's just horrible.

That's my absolute favorite track, it has incredibly long straights, incredible high speed turns, a great way to test a car and have fun, it is, however, one of the longer tracks (at 12 km) but the high speed achieved from this track brings >4min. Lap times.

That was just a shameless dig at a rival series for the sake of attacking a rival series. Being that this is specifically in the GT5 board, it would go without saying that this was about tracks from GT5. Forza's tracks are generally great, however, except for the whole Sidewinder course which is really just a big test track and the..., I forget what they called them but it's just a parking lot that gets arranged into simple courses..., and that's also just another test track.

Given the choice between Forza's fictional Sunset Peninsula road course, the real-world Indy road course, and the real-world Daytona road course, I'd probably take Forza's Sunset Peninsula. Given the choice between GT5's fictional tracks and Forza's, I'd probably take Forza's. The only people that really voice hatred for Forza's tracks are just GT fanboys that won't accept anything that Forza would ever do.

Well, let's see, you would take Forza's fictional tracks over GT5's. I am just the opposite. Sunset Peninsula was one of the few I enjoyed, but I would rather take the real deal.

Shameless dig? Really? Let us take a look at these.

Sony and Polyphony both share a common philosophy. They choose to pretend that their products exist in a vacuum. Sony bends over backwards to enforce that illusion.

By the 2016 release of GT6 we may even get a basic livery editor, even though a hundred other racing games have already had some form of livery editor.

Kaz might be high and imagine a purple buffalo pitching the livery editor idea to him, but he'll think it's brilliant and never been done before.

I quoted a few sentences of yours to show the hypocrisy of your fanboy statement in your reply to me. Using your logic, your posts come off as petty themselves. This is just off one post. You have around 800 of them total, I wonder what else we could find.

If you are going to post negative comments on GT5 under the flag of "disappointed and only want it better" you should be able to accept someone posting negative comments about Forza without feeling the need to place your hero cape on and come to rescue.

What's amazing to me, is that you take the time to point out GT's flaws on a constant basis. I would bet almost on a daily basis.

Me? I played Forza 3, Shift 2 and didn't like them as much and moved on. Case closed, oh well. Hopefully Forza 4 will keep involved like Forza 2 did.

Sarthe.

Never, ever understood the appeal of that track. It's just horrible.

Why? This is one of my personal favorites, I have never, ever understood the people who dislike this track. I would like to see why you don't like it.
If you don't like it, I assume you can't drive it.
Reason it is in my favorites is that there is lots of straights and corners for different speeds.

Here's two more tracks I dislike:
Tokyo R246 - Absolutely awful to drive in Dream Car Championships
Daytona Road Course - Boring track, every corner is a chicane. It should take it's lesson from Indy's road course.

Tsukuba, I don't "hate" it per se, but as others have said it's used WAY too much and they still use it all the time in the seasonals too.

Cape Ring I like, apart from the crappy jump and the "ring" bit, sure it looks good but is just crap to drive.

the generated tracks are hit and miss too.

The PS2 ports, I love the tracks but they look SO CHRONICALLY BAD in GT5.

I used to hate Fuji, but did raced it loads in the FF seasonal and in those cars it's not too bad, but It's a pain in faster cars, especially the last section (as others have mentioned).

I love the Top Gear Test track...it's NOT for racing on!! Racing on a figure of eight that cross overs is mindless stupidity IMO!! (unless it's destruction derby racing)

Tsukuba for me, without a doubt. (Although it is close. I generally dislike "purpose built" tracks like Fuji, Tsukuba, Indy speedway etc. and like "organic tracks" which are the way they are because existing roads and/or terrain dictate that they by that way; Nurburgring, Sarthe, Monaco, etc.)

Indy and Daytona road courses. Flat and boring. The ovals can actually be fun on occasion, but I wouldn't miss them if they were gone.

Oh, and I've never been fond of Grand Valley, but I can't really put my finger on the reason for that. Parts of it I like, but I always seem to come away from it with a negative feeling.

Tokyo can be fun with the right car... but something about the way the corners are annoys me.. I don't hate it or dislike it, I just don't prefer it.

Eh, the Nordschleife / Südschleife were purpose-built :odd:
But I get your sentiment, all the same. Personally, I have all the time in the world for all manner of circuits, except "Tilkedromes" which are too finicky and merely represent the designer showing off.

Anyway, I also actually hate the new Fuji. I loved Fuji ("90s") from GT4 Prologue, and now I feel it has been ruined. Funny, F1 drivers feel the same, hence why Suzuka is back on the calendar instead. Incidentally, I hated Suzuka for a while, then I "got" the second half of the circuit, and all is well. I'm still not fast enough through Spoon and Degner 1, though.

And who said Monza? Yes, the first chicane is a pain; the track was originally designed with no chicanes, making the Curva Grande and the first Lesmo quite a challenge. The Lesmos are still challenging now, and just different enough that they're fun. The Ascari chicane, though, is wonderful (an example to all other chicanes!), and the Parabolica an exercise in precision. Great circuit.

Cape Ring is fine, although I hate the hairpins and that triple-apex atrocity on some variations. Periphery is great, but the jump is a tad silly - I don't mind the spiral at all (it has subtlety), except that the AI sucks at it.
SSR7 is good for what it is, not as a race "circuit", although Avusring springs to mind...
Tsukuba is technical enough that it can grate after a while, but it's not a bad circuit. The same can be said of Madrid, although in some configurations there are some truly superb corners.
Finally, the ovals. They're a separate challenge, it's about close racing (really, really close) so it's more about learning every inch of the tarmac. The subtle differences in certain parts of the corners can be exploited by knowledgeable drivers, and it's fun finding optimal lines through the curves and often educational for car balance in general.

Some of the course creator, er, creations are abysmal, but I've made a few crackers, too ;)

EDIT: I think the biggest problem with all of the circuits, though, is that in A-Spec, you have to battle your way through partially-witted opponents in some mad rush to make first place. Racing against equally skilled drivers can bring some circuits alive, and will show up the "test tracks" for what they are.

Why moan about fuji? the track was designed to catch drivers out if they were new but give 4 or 5 different lines for overtaking near the end. Here's a little video about Fuji complete with a race to show what I mean.

If you find it hard then you're falling into the 'trap' this track was designed to have.

I also always wanted a motorway track for testing so ssr7 was a nice addition in my eyes.

Tsukuba is a nice little track, though i have only the 9 hour endurance to do on it left (excluding the 24hr races) on A spec and i have to say maybe thats 9 hours too many, the 4 hour one was barely tolerable but 9 hours... :dunce:.

Cant say i really hate any of the tracks though if i did i'd say any of the course generator tracks.

Outstanding video dude! Thank you! Learned a lot from it and can't wait to get back on Fuji!!

Any tracks as long as it needs more power tuning than cornering skills.
So Daytona and Indianapolis is my answer. (Though I make exceptions at farming credits.)

1. Laguna Seca: just awful in every way.
2. Autumn Ring: good for little cars, anything bigger than Elise and I fail.
3. Tokyo: boring.
4. Tsukuba: thanks to 9h endurance race. Good for slow cars but don't like to drive it with fast cars.
5. Ovals: need to say anything?

The Good:
- Nurburgring (all versions which include the Nordsheife)
- La Sarthe
- Monza
- IMS (Road course)
- Laguna
- Autumn Ring
- Suzuka
- R246
- Madrid * (A lot of people hate it but I think it can be rather challenging if you race cleanly)

So-So:
- Rome
- Daytona Road course
- Monaco ** (Something not 'right' about it. It's got history. It's a famous track. But just like the real track, it's TERRIBLE for racing)
- Grand Valley ** Monaco is Monaco but WHAT race course has a tunnel with a kink and then a bridge. Silly.
- SSR5
- Fuji ** (It's just, well, kind of boring)
- Tsukuba *** (Awww, it's so...tiny)
- Top Gear **** (Hot lap, YAY! Racing, Booo)
- High Speed Ring ***** (Kaz's dream--then half way through, his dream about something else)

The NOT so Good:
- Trial Mountain
- Deep Forest
- SSR11
---------- (I'm convinced anybody who likes the three above do so because they're long time GT fans. Most people new to the franchise see them for what they are--dreck.
- London - No place to pass, high curbs and bouncing off walls, nuh-uh.
- Toscana - corner over crest, corner over crest, corner over crest. FAIL!

Simply Shameful:
- Eiger ****** (Invisible walls, impassable barriers, a jump that highlights one of the biggest flaws in the physics of this game. Beautiful scenery but, pass)
- Cape Ring ***** (would be a gazillion times better without the jump or spiral--FAIL)
