Will the audio finally be on par with the video aspect of GT?

I have probably every single sound mod that was made for TDU, but any way, i still like the sound's in GT5p, Especially on my setup.

As someone who doesn't listen to the game when playing (I often have audiobooks /mp3's on the go) I don't really care. Yet still having decent sounds there should be a feather in GT's cap and one less thing the trolls can try to use.

Well we have also found out that complaining motivates Kazunori, So if we complain enough he just might change every sound...

But don't touch the DB9 and 599.

Wow the first Vid kicks ass... Never known that TDU is such a nice game... never played that...
Thx!;) Yeah, TDU is pretty nice on a good PC with a wheel and in the "hard core" mode, unfortunately, you only get that mode as a reward when you complete almost whole game on normal mode(arcade handling). That was a huge oversight, I would love to play the regular game/missions in HC mode...
All those TDU modded sounds are so unrealistic.
Firstly, since I made them,I wasn't going for 100% stock car sound in most cases and some of them are deliberately tuned sounds.
Secondly, it's recorded with the hood view, not cockpit.
Thirdly, I was working with the samples I could get my hands on so give me a break!
And finally, I'm betting most people would prefer those sounds over current gt ones.:)
What ppl here forget is, they compare Shift sounds to GT5 P. Where the cars in shift are racing cars, meaning Exterior has been ripped out, so the sound in car would be louder , to a car that exterior still in the car.

Also I dont think its right to compare a full blown spec racing car, to a road cars. They need to just wait, till like cars from the JGTC series videos to be revealed. Then I think its fair to compare.
Have you even tried Shift?? No one is comparing racing to stock cars and stock cars in Shift do sound more realistic than in almost any other game, and guess what, most of sport cars and specially super cars ARE loud!👍

Since my first post of sounds wasnt a fair compare. i found a vid of a F40 cockpit Rl, vs GT5P cockpit. As you will notice, the Rl sound of engine, is not blaring like games like Shift etc.

So my next question is, do ppl want PD to use fake sounds, or Rl sounds? Because it seems that ppl are complaining that PD uses RL sounds of the car, instead of overly exaggerated sounds.

oh really?

GT's sound should be on par with its graphics, no doubt about it.
What's more important to me is that the physics should be on par with the graphics (if they aren't already, that is). 👍 On a simulator, I'm more interesting in physics than anything.

Too many times people classify over exaggerated sounds as being better or more realistic when that may not be the case when compared to real life. Of course the louder and more extreme sound is going to be more pleasing to hear but don't confuse that with reality.

Toatally agree with you. Louder is not reality. Some back firing when downshifting would be nice though.

There's absolutely nothing exaggerated about sport/super cars being loud!

You can barely hear richard each time he stomps on the fun pedal!!
You guys obviously never tried it so you have no point of reference(GT isn't one;)) and therefore no argument.
+you missed the second point too, loudness isn't everything you know, the engine sounds in GT should be louder, but also more alive(recorded on a dyno and mastered by someone who knows what he's doing). Finally, there are more sounds in the car then just the exhaust note and that needs to be considered too.
p.s. in some of my videos you can hear backfire and blow off valve sounds which aren't in the original game at all, but I've put it in after hearing the real counterparts doing exactly that.;)

WOW! How rude dude. How do you know what "we" have or have not tried buddy?👎

I have car references, 4 classic uk Subaru Imprezas ( 3 Colin Mcrae, one non turbo Sport ), 5 Japanese import Impreza's ( v3, v4, v6 Type R's, v5 4dr & v2 555 4dr ).I have driven various BMW 3er cabrios, 96 328 coupe', two E36 3.2ltr M3 evo coupes ( both 6 speed manual ).Also driven two 750 beemers, the E38 is lwb ( E32, E38 ), also a 730I & various other beemers.I had a drive of an Alfa 156 v6, which was nice.

Show me where in my original statement I was referring to you and or your videos...
I was just saying in general alot of games over exaggerate sounds leading people to believe they are better or more real. Nowhere did I say that real life high power performance cars aren't loud.

Either rode shotgun or drove: 500+ hp Dodge Viper, 650+ HP '70 Dodge Coronet, 550+ hp Corvette ZO6, Ferrari Testarossa, '95 Lamborghini Diablo, SLR Mclaren Mercedes, a couple older Skylines, Nissan 300 ZX twin turbo, '95 Supra twin turbo, etc.....

I'm not trying to insult anyone, that was more of a factual deduction, that proved to be wrong;). So it's something else, we all perceive the world differently, who knows.

Ok, maybe I boxed you in with the others, wasn't my intention. Anyway, discussion was relatively specific, GT/Shift/my vids/reality and if it's true that you rode in all these cars, I guess you can confirm that sport/super cars are loud and consequently Shift(and my vids too) present reality better than mostly clinical and synthetic sound of GT games...
IF i play GT its got to be loud enough for me to not hear myself talk:lol:

The race cars sound nice but listen to these Z's.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1garmkxSrc
Wow I love the sinister buzzing sound Zs make at low revs with the limiter on!

I don't have room, money or intent to get a fancy 5/6/7.1 system, cuz it would only make it MORE clear how it sucks! Trust me, I've made music and the only thing you get with a sick system(like speakers in pro studio which cost as much as your car...each!) is more clarity and greater power, but they certainly don't make your crappy sound any better, but show it even more for what it is. disclaimer: My music's sound wasn't crappy to begin with!;)

That would be a great argument if it was not for one very minor problem.

It is perfectly possible for a game to carry two different encodes of the same sound, one set for stereo and one for 5.1/7.1, particularly if the 5.1/7.1 encode happened to also be a HD audio codec.

Take a look at any DVD or BR (and when it existed HD-DVD) release and the audio encodes are often not the same for various audio types. A very good example of this is Black Hawk Down on BR, the standard Dolby Digital encode is very poor (for some reason worse than the standard DVD DD encode), however the 5.1 LPCM encode is still one of the best around today.

I have tried a back to back comparison of a direct stereo feed of GT5:P and the 5.1/7.1 uncompressed feed on my system and they are quite clearly very, very different.

Don't get me wrong, GT5:P is still not 'right' when it comes to a lot of sounds, but to say that the stereo and HD audio encodes are the exact same is both incorrect and miss-leading.

To me the audio does not matter.

You get the exact same arguments about First person shooters, if the gun sounds unrealistic the game sucks. But its simply not true.

Off Topic, while I would agree that how realistic sounds were was not the most important factor in FPS, to say audio doesn't matter is simply not true.

Play a FPS shooter (particularly on-line) with a good 5.1 system and you have a serious advantage when it comes to locating the enemy, as long as the audio is well done in terms of sound placement. I've used sound alone to hunt snipers many a time on COD4, works a treat when people try and sneak up on you as well.

As long as there is SOME sound there, and its a distinct sound (so you know what it is) then i don't see any problem. I hear engine sounds on GT and they tell me when to shift. I hear the tyre squeels and its telling me i'm losing grip. I hear other cars around me. Thats pretty much it.

Another question; in GT4 is there some sort of sound effect when your fuel tank is almost empty? I've never run out of fuel on that game. Does anything happen at all? Or does your car just stop accelerating and come to a halt with no drama at all?

Your car stops accelerating and drops to something like a constant 10 MPH.

umm... anyone else thinking these are awful? the ferrari sounds like a pissed of cat dieing.

Yeah, the TDU modded sounds, sound like crap. Too digital.

Engine (car) sounds are probably the most difficult to get right anyway, there will always be something off.

If Polyphony would have used racing and supercar sounds without filtering and editting them, we'd be deaf now.

I'm satisfied with GT engine sounds, you can recognize the cars, only that they seems toned down. As I said in other post, thanks to this you can hear all the cars in the race, not only the american V8's ;)

And speaking about tyre sounds, good news, they are already different in Gran Turismo PSP, check them :)

I love how some people defend GT's sounds by saying ''you need to hear the game on a 5.1 surround system'' or ''those are low quality samples.''

I can listen to NFS Shift sounds that are of poor quality recordings on my Iphone speakers and still tell that the game sounds great.

Let's face it, the sounds are either good or their not. in GT's case- they're not.

I have an Onkyo TX-SR 507 AV amp (135 watts per channel) and Energy Take Classic Speakers with a 200 watt sub woofer. GT5P still sounds rubbish. I play the Shift Demo through my TV's speakers and it sounds really good, let alone through my amp and speakers.

It is not rocket science, all that is needed is a rolling road, it is that simple!!

Come on PD lets see you up your game and inject some passion into your sterile cars.

PS

Some cars do sound good/realistic but it is way too hit and miss.

The latest TOYOTA 86 concept sounds great, but will all cars sound that great?

I really hope GT5 sounds super real this time!

I get what you're saying and I believe there is a difference, but more of a superficial difference(clarity/definition) in quality(because the samples are still the same)and addition of spatial positioning due to the surround, but as others have already said, good audio sounds good even on a crappiest system and there's no running away from that fact.;)
umm... anyone else thinking these are awful? the ferrari sounds like a pissed of cat dieing.

Yeah right,my sounds sound digital and synthetic you say...How on earth would you describe this "awesomeness" then???
I call that premenstrual hairdryerrari! :yuck:
p.s. I even emphasized that I did this as a hobby for few months and it's certainly not perfect(but I'd say it's more "alive" like a real savanna vs zoo compared to GT) , but on the other hand, if I hadn't had those limitations of TDU's audio engine and had excellent quality samples to begin with, I would have made it sound just like the real thing, which I expect from the hordes of probably overpaid audio guys at PD!💡 If they can achieve near photorealism,I'd also like near audiorealism to complete the picture. You wouldn't??

I'm sorry mate, but you obviously don't have a clue what you're talking about.

I'm 99% sure that video has dubbed audio over it,that's not in game audio.
(at some places if you listen(and watch) carefully, sounds don't even match what the car is doing really well...hate to disappoint you mate, although I'd love to be wrong on this one;))
