Shadow of the Colossus Producer Kenji Kaido Leaves Team ICO/Sony

Wired
Kenji Kaido, producer of the acclaimed PlayStation games Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, has left Sony, according to his Twitter.

“I have some news,” he wrote on Monday. “This August, I left Sony Computer Entertainment. My plans for the future are undecided as of now, but for the time being I’m going to continue my summer vacation.”

I'm sure he will enjoy his summer vacation, he deserves it. :) 👍

Does anyone know why IGN seem to still have this slated for December on their (kinda brief) release schedule?

I don't really find IGN to be that reliable - quite often they state they have info when in fact they have nothing more than a placeholder...or maybe they just forgot to amend it.

Fumito Ueda posts The Last Guardian update

To All Interested Parties

As some of you may have heard, I left Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio some time ago to pursue my creative passions. Nevertheless, I continue working on The Last Guardian as a freelance contributor.

While it’s been a long time coming, The Last Guardian remains under my creative supervision and is still in development by an incredibly talented team.

I should also mention that details regarding The Last Guardian's release is solely decided by Sony Computer Entertainment, not myself. Please keep an eye out for their official announcement.

Moving forward, it is my intent to continue my involvement with The Last Guardian project, as well as pursue new creative projects with a fresh perspective. As I rekindle my passions as a creator, I look forward to seeing where it will take me, and I deeply appreciate your support during this transition.

I didn't find any useful info in that statement. Said nothing really. Other than he's looking forward to his next title when this one isnt out of the door yet.

I'm hoping more & better info about this game pops up from Sony on Feb 20th.

I wasn't knocking you mate, I love your updates.
It's just that statement says absolutely nothing, nothing at all. Sony are responsible for release info, ok, we are still working on it, er ok. I'm looking forward to doing something else.

The whole last guardian thing gets on my nerves.
Ok they captured lightning in a bottle twice last gen. A very rare thing to do. However this gen they have done absolutely bugger all. Whilst studio Liverpool and others get the chop.

It a joke to me.

Any way sorry for mini rant.

No worries at all Spagetti & thanks:tup:, I agree, granted it's an update, but Ueda basically stated a whole lot of nothing.

It's sad. I was really, really looking forward to this, even though we had seen little to nothing from it. I was so pleased to see another title from the creators of ICO/SotC as those two were absolute gems in my eyes.

As you have both said, we know nothing more from this than we did before, other than the fact that they're are still working on it. I wonder if they still intend to even release this on the Playstation 3? With all the hype about February 20th, might this be too late for The Last Guardian?

No doubt there will be people who say they will buy a PS4 for this, after all they bought a PS3 for it too lol.

:lol:They stated that Last Guardian will be for PS3 though and I believe that. I've said I will wait a while and not buy PS4 on release but if it releases with Killzone 4 then I probably will have to reconsider.

Launch title for PS4. Calling it. It would explain the 'technical difficulties' that were reported last year, just re-optimizing for the PS4 dev kits.

Quite possibly, be a shame to by pass that massive PS3 install base though. Passing up on some big money there.

First of all, sorry if I got any of your hopes up by bringing this thread back from the 9th page. No, there's no new information regarding the release of The Last Guardian.

I was just having a look around to see if there had been any updates and the latest information I could find was an interview dating back to February 22nd with Shuhei Yoshida, from Sony, saying that

I apologize to people who are waiting for the game. Ueda-san posted that he's still working on it, that he's creative-directing it and that the team in the Japan studios are working hard. We are waiting for the right time to re-introduce The Last Guardian.

...and when questioned about which console it would be released on, either the PS4 as a launch title, or the PS3 as originally stated, he simply replied

We're going to talk about it when we can.

On Wikipedia it's got the game down as both a PS3 and PS4 title. When Yoshida said that they're waiting for the right time to re-introduce it, was he referring to E3? I personally hope that even if it's going to go onto the next generation, that it's still released on the PS3 too.

The Last Guardian is alive and kicking

Shuhei Yoshida
But as [designer Fumito Ueda] shared with people a couple of months ago, we really want to be confident next time when we introduce The Last Guardian to the public, so we are waiting for that time to come.

Game development is not easy at all, The Last Guardian looks to be an extreme case, but actually, I don't think that's the case. What's extreme is the vision of Ueda-San and the team, which is extremely interesting for all of us including myself, consumers and media people. So that kind of keeps us going, even when they hit really difficult technical issues. If it were another project we might have just finished in the middle.

I really appreciate that people are still anticipating the game. That's really positive.

More info, but basically more of nothing.....

I wouldn't call it nothing. I don't think they would keep reassuring people if it wasn't the case. The game will show eventually. And I'll be buying.

One of the more interesting videos about The "Lost" Guardian. Maybe not so lost after all.

So glad this is finally coming.

Watching the gameplay and listening to the sound effects of the game world with the birds tweeting and the wind blowing.... instantly reminded me of ICO, one of my favourite games ever, cannot wait for this, genuinely excited :))))))

Well, what a nice surprise! Been waiting for this game for...err...only about 10 years now.
