Wow, I actually thought I saw the last of it :D Surprised The Last Guardian is actually going to be a thing! Nice! Finally a truly compelling P exclusive.S

I wonder when exactly in 2016 it will be released?

October 25th, 2016.

Never thought I'd see a release date.

Though seeing the main character move the exact same way they did in both Ico and SotC is frustrating. Is this built on the same bones?!

The crowd in the conference wooping at the release date! was probably the biggest cheer of the night just out of pure relief!

However the graphics don't look like they have worn the test of time well, does look like an early PS3 game.

Reminds me of the Interstellar Marines game - they hung back (pre-crowd-funding) waiting for backing and when they got there their great looking game had been caught up with and passed by others. I hope it goes well for The Last Guardian though, as it has been a long time in coming.

Sony basically have no faith in it too. Literally zero advertising.

Pre-ordered and playing through ICO in anticipation.

Not expecting this game to be revelatory like Shadow of the Colossus, it basically just looks like more ICO just with some tech borrowed from Shadow of the Colossus for the animal companion. But that's fine.

I never played Ico, and when I finally played Shadow of Colossus I didn't really see what the fuss was about, probably because I didn't play it when it was new and groundbreaking. But I'm a sucker for animal companions in games, and I expect interacting with Trico and seeing the tech that went into it to make up for what will probably be fairly non-skill-based and cinematic-style gameplay.

Ico's kinda like a minimalist Zelda that takes place in one long dungeon.

Shadow's one of those games where it was probably better to play back when it was new, since the graphics were awe-inspiring on both a technical and aesthetic level back then. I still think it holds up as a great game today, but it doesn't have that extra punch that pushes it into mindblowing territory anymore.

The Last Guardian won't be the best looking game on the PS4 that's for sure, but I hope it will capture the same magic & emotion that ICO did back in the day.

I've got my pre-order in. It feels like a bit of gaming history more than anything, don't expect it to be great but I think it'll be a good bit of fun.

It's available for pre-order in the PS Store now! 9th December relase date in the UK. It's really here this time.

The urge to get that Collector's Edition is strong. The steel book and statue both looks really nice, and as others in here, I too feel that this game could be one of the bigger experiences in gaming.

Interested in your impressions GTPers, it's getting good reviews but won't pay 60$ for a title that I feel I won't like.

The thing that annoys me most of all is the screen prompts (graphic of DS4, tells you to pick up item or pull lever etc). The thing I liked most about ICO was the complete 100% lack of HUD, it was what drew me into that world. If I can't turn these annoying pop ups off, I won't want to play it. The character animation looks very awkward as well, & several reviewers have said that controlling the boy is clumsy.

Regarding the screen prompts, yes I agree those are annoying. Haven't got my copy yet so I can't verify, but unfortunately it doesn't sound like they can be turned off. UPDATE: Copy arrived. No options to turn off prompts in the menu... hopefully they patch one in.

Regarding the boy being clumsy... I think maybe some reviewers maybe just aren't understanding that the character's animations and controls are intentionally clumsy. That's exactly what they were going for, just as in Ico and SotC. It can be jarring if you're going into them with a very videogamey mindset where you want things to be snappy and responsive, but these games are about invoking a specific mood and atmosphere through very deliberate minimalistic gameplay. They aren't supposed to be super-tight platformers a la Mario.

Easy Allies understands why the game controls the way it does and why it's good, and I think they do a decent job getting it across in their review:

That's me out for now then, I won't be getting it. It's the same reason I never nought SOC after playing ICO.

Regarding the controls; I understand completely. I'm no gamer, I actually dislike 99% of video games out there, & only bought a Playstation for Gran Turismo. However, there are a few exceptions to the rule, & ICO was one of them. Loved everything about that game.

Saw that the game only scored 7/10 on IGN, avoided watching the review though to avoid spoilers. But they also gave Owlman AKA yet another 2D retro pixelfest 9.2 or something, so whatevs.

There's nothing wrong with 2D, retro and/or pixelfests... or are we gonna sling mud at The Last Guardian for a 3D modern polyfest?

Besides, Owlboy has a 91 on Opencritic, so it sounds like IGN wasn't off their rocker... at least relative to other critics. Haven't played it myself, so I can't comment on whether its universal praise is warranted. :p

I guess what I said was based on the assumption that they might argue TLG is somewhat dated, although I guess I am making a big assumption myself there, having not actually watched/read the review :)

I don't have a PS4 yet (going to try and get a Pro before GT Sport comes out) but I've been watching Jackcepticeye's play through and I have to say the thing that impresses me the most so far is the movement of the creature. Really smooth and fluid, it's incredible.

Woo, just beat ICO (which was fantastic) so now I can start playing The Last Guardian guilt-free :P

Yeah, it does seem to almost be "alive" in an animalistic kind of way.
