The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Hang on, is this the 6hr race?!

How the hell am I missing out on when these races are?

Oh well, there's not really anyone I'm really cheering for, especially since the Flying Lizards gave up on ALMS.

Gave up? They didn't give up, but with no factory Porsche support available for GTLM this year, they simply moved to GTC. And they qualified 4th in class.

Currently in the grandstands on the straight. It's only warmup, but the DeltaWing spanked the ESM guys up the straight...

Also interesting to see Rebellion running the Rear-Fender wing solution. Neither Dyson or Muscle Milk have anything of the sort.

Isn't the delta wing in the p1 class?

I don't know if this has been said, but I highly doubt we've seen anywhere near all that both Audi or Toyota can give.

With the sport so competitive, opposing teams look for any advantages. If Toyota or Audi brought out any truly crucial upgrades to Spa, it would just give the other team time to copy it to their own car.

Don't get me wrong, the month between Spa and Le Mans is plenty of time for the teams to design plenty of updates to their car anyways. But if Toyota found a really efficient front wing design last March, I doubt they'd show it off at any race before Le Mans because then Audi could just go "Hey, let's copy it!"

I know this is all probably common knowledge stuff, but I'm just saying that I don't think we should really take too many guesses at how Le Mans is going to end up yet since I highly doubt either team has really flexed their muscles or shown off anything truly crucial to the pace of their car.

Le Mans is Le Mans, the team's year is from June to June, and there's so many variables with this one race in particular.. But the wait until the true race is getting short! I can't wait!

Because I have a feeling that we're about to see a very different race unfold than anything we've seen so far.

I have to say, this 6 hours (of what I've watched), is one of the best I've seen of any endurance race. Extremely intense in pretty much every category (except P2).

Am I The only questioning having the caution thrown when they could've easily just pushed the car into pitlane?

What a great race in all categories. Risi has just gotten screwed over and over this season. Not saying some of it isn't self-inflicted, but...

At least there was some comedy due to the fact the chrome phallus that was on fire at the pit lane entrance and caused a full course yellow in the final laps got a podium spot.

I don't see why people are still bitching about the Deltawing. Its there, nothing anyone is going to do about so its pointless really.

Also, Speed channel is interestingly airing a highlight of the WEC race at Silverstone. I can only hope that means they'll be covering the WEC race at Circuit of the Americas otherwise I'll be greatly annoyed.

Don't even get close to getting your hopes up, this is Speed we're talking about..

Yeah I know, not the channel anyone should be expecting great things from. They've surprised me several times though so I'm hoping this is one of those rare times.

Not bitching. I only noticed the thing once during the whole race--with smoke coming out of it.

But seriously, I don't mind it. It's strange that it's even in the P1 class, but I suppose that has to do with the kind of tech it's using? Either way it never seemed to do anything bad to draw attention to itself during the race. It was just sort of...there...

No, i'm with you on that one too. I can't see why they decided put the white flag out with two and a half minutes still left on the clock either.

Because American racing loves cautions?

That's a grand am like caution at the end. Manufacturing a close finish. Can't say I'm mad about it though. Made the race even more exciting.

The extended caution periods could definitely be cleaned up in the American series. More exit roads for cars in trouble?

It's kinda in Laguna seca's nature for extended cautions because there are gravel traps some 5 feet from the racing line. Pc, gt, and gtc were fairly good races. P2 was the only race I was really disappointed in. I didn't see the whole thing as I was watching the players championship too

Both ESM cars had some rear-right suspension issue, but I was never sure what it was. Yeah that competition got broken up because of that I think. Everything else was great, though. Yellows actually probably helped keep it all close. Even Risi was hanging on...at first...

The Gravel Lizards gentlemen drivers brought out all but one of those cautions anyways

Bravo, Seth Neiman, bravo.
:rolleyes::banghead:

He hires all the right people, has forged good connections with many people, has the BEST pit crew and strategizer in the entirety of the series, and yet he negates this be letting complete idiots (including himself sometimes) drive the cars.

It might be more financially beneficial for the team that way.
