Imagine how much better it would've looked without the shark-fin.

When the first images arrived I didn't like it at all. But now that it's gained some colors it's started to grow on me. Pretty soon you won't be able to tell the difference between an LMP car and a spaceship!

haha yeah. But for me it doesn't matter what LMP cars look like, I think they're just built to be as aerodynamic as possible and fast. They're like the rocket sleds of sportscar racing. GT cars don't have the option of not being appealing, cuz they're based on models sold to the public :)

And honestly while I support Audi I prefer the vehicle in your avatar picture. :)

While this has nothing to do with GT cars, some ugly cars can be sold to the public.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you... The fiat Multipla

I really dont think petrol powered cars could win Le Mans outright anymore. They would have to put down some seriously quick times to even think about making up time for the extra pit stops... and Peugeot and Audi arent exactly "Slow"...

Personally, I think Audi should take note from Peugeot, and not mess with the colour scheme? I liked the Red and Silver, little bit of black. These just seem... not right.

Also, in terms of looks, I think the boys at Aston have it spot-on. Too bad they wont be coming...

Sponsorship plays a role and with the current economy I am honestly surprised there hasn't been more changes in paint schemes. You see that in NASCAR all the time. Here the issue is more of manufacturers pulling out, so instead of paint scheme changes you have teams switching cars.

Very interesting (and a bit long, you are warned) "farewell speech" to the Highcroft/HPD partnership, from David Brabham.

Some parts of it hint at something coming up. A new unknown Diesel? American Aston? Toyota? Seems Highcroft's owner hasn't given up on the "Le Mans" dream.

Shame about Brabs missing Le Mans for the first time in 15 years ...

I am kind of convinced we'll see Toyota make a return to Le Mans somewhere in the future. It just doesn't make sense they just decide to give away some engines just to have an engine in the field. I bet they are going to use Rebellion's data to start make a prototype of their own again.

Knowing Toyota and motorsports, I genuinely believe we could potentially gain a third contender amongst Audi and Peugeot in the future if Toyota does decide to build up a Le Mans program again. Although I'm pretty convinced delivering engines to Rebellion is step 1 of their new program.

Will likely be a petrol-hybrid (LMPrius) but I think Rebellion will be involved in this thru the entire program if there is one.

For a exhibition as its the 20th Anniversary of the 787s win at Le Mans....amazing you jump to conclusions

You guys are funny, LOL

PS - Amazing car ... I have a picture of myself right beside it, at the Le Mans Museum. It's funny how small (and low) it is

Negatory ghostrider, exhibition usually means 'for show and display' not 'for endurance racing'.

It's a shame though. It'd be nice to see it entered to see how it stacks up against modern competition. Perhaps they can covince a couple of the LMP1 teams to do an exhibition 'sprint' race with it. 5 laps maybe?

It would get thrashed by modern LMP1's. As would all previous Le Mans racers.

I just don't get all the fuss the 787B receives. It was a very average car that lucked into it's win at Le Mans.

Thats why mainly, plus its a Wankel :dopey: but no seriously I really dont like it. Ugly car, ugly engine, doesnt sound that good either....

I agree it not being a special racer. But as far as liveries and looks goes, I think it's one of the best looking LM cars. It has that special flare to it, just like Toyota's TS020 racer in 1999.

I wouldnt say it would get thrashed over a lap, especially by this years LMP1's with the reduction in horsepower, fastest lap in '91 was 3:35. which is about what they will be doing this year, different track layout though obviously. Race distance would be different matter due to the diesels efficiency

With the chicanes I doubt the 787b would gain that much more of a topspeed. Aerodynamically-wise the new LMPs are on a different planet.

What's not to get? It was an underdog entering the race (fans love underdog stories). It's the only Japanese car to ever win Le Mans. It's also the only car powered by a rotary engine to win Le Mans. That's what makes the 787B unique and legendary. And it's one of a kind livery and great exhaust note only add to the appeal of the car. Even if you don't like the 787B, it's not that hard that to understand why it has a bit of a "cult" following.

As far as luck goes. Time-and-time again, the more reliable/lucky car has won Le Mans over the faster car(s). That's the beauty of Le Mans...
