God That was scary! But Gunnar says his helmet never touched the ground, anyways thank Dr. S.Watkins for the Hans Device!

100% agreed, though that's a pretty scary place to loose it like that and we don't know what was going trough his mind at the moment, he might as well be saying FU I lost it... this is the only sport in wich you are in real danger of loosing your life, so we shouldn't judge their reactions after such a scary incident.

Definitely, and to an extent i'd understand if this was the race, but considering this happened during practice I think it was a bit too much. But hey, when there's that much adrenaline running through you I doubt you're always going to make the right decision.

Looks like a touchdown to me. Notice how far out the car he gets in comparison to when the car was riding along the tarmac. I don't know if he was pulled or he was bounced that far out, either way I'd be seriously worried about letting that car race.

If he admits that his head touched the ground then the car would be withdrawn immediately by race officials. He has no other option than to deny that it happened.
 
Why would we need to see a picture? I'm sure there was enough safety workers around following the accident, I think someone would say something if they had noticed marks on his helmet when they arrived at the scene.
 
I don't even see why you feel the need to bring his helmet condition into this, neither of us can say for sure that it does or does not have marks on it. Heck, he can still touch the ground and not mark his helmet, you wouldn't believe the amount of times I've ploughed headfirst into hard dirt with my white bicycle helmet without marking it.

All we can go on is video evidence and from what I see it looks like his head touched the ground. As I've already explained, he can only claim otherwise or the car is out of the race. Even if he didn't hit, I'm still worried by how far out the car he went.
 
You plowing head first into dirt is not the same, sorry.

In any case, none of us were there and a video on the internet doesn't prove anything, so let's move on....
 
Fair enough but people seem to think it proves the Green Hornet driver was at fault? Why shouldn't it prove things against the DeltaWing, unless your biased of course ;)
 
Having watched the video, I don't see the DW at fault for anything. I see a green Porsche turning hard right for some reason. No idea why, but the DW just happened to be occupying that space when he came over.
 
If it were anything other than racing incident, wouldn't Green Hornet get a penalty? I personally leave it up to the racing director...and the racing director in ALMS isn't usually very lenient about contact. Plus Green Hornet has been on the wrong end of a lot of other driver's mistakes this season :/ Sucks for them, at least everyone is OK. That's the important thing.

EDIT: I see the issue you guys are talking about is whether or not the helmet touched, which is different than who's at fault. Carry on :)
 
Guys, the helmets are always inspected by officials and on an incident like this one you can be sure they are going to inspect it.

It looks to be headed that way, like the car behind the contact.

In that case,though I think the Porsche should have stayed right coming out of that last corner.
If he was headed to the pits it looks like he thought he was clear and obviously was not. :scared:

It's going to be a good race Saturday, can't wait.

I don't think that was the case, you can see the opposite lock from the slo-mo Nissan onboard right before the hit. Just a very scary racing(track) incident.
 
I am soooo going to Laguna Seca this year. I'll go by myself, I don't care. I want to see the last year of ALMS competition.

I may be the only person watching the video and thinking differently. The DW was clearly alongside the Porsche, and gave it plenty of room. You can clearly see the Porsche swerve to the right. Whether he was losing it or just didn't know the DW was there, the accident could have been avoided and I don't think the DW driver was at any fault.

I understand where you're coming from, I watched the video again and i see what you mean. The DW was close to the Porsche when the incident happened. I was thinking that Gunnar could've moved a little bit to avoid the Porsche, but even though I see what the DW should've done, most of the blame is on the Porsche on how he could have stayed off track instead putting the DW and everyone else in danger. But yep I'm glad that everyone is alright and it didn't ended worse.

So true. Of all of the incidents on the track with other drivers, they usually would check to see if the other driver(s) are okay, not flipping a driver. :facepalm:

No you're right, there was no way for Gunnar to see or anticipate the Porsche loosing it, he could've hold on and pass after the crest, but this is a competitive enviroment after all, if you're gonna do that on a race you might as well park it.

Yeah that part gave me chills :nervous:. But like Jav said, thank goodness for Dr. S. Watkins and the Hans device!
 
From what I've read maybe you're thinking he hit his head when he went on to the grass well... because grass is longer and softer than tarmac. Im not trying to be sarcastic in any way thats just what I'm getting from the video.
