The Line of Customization: When enough is enough (If it's even added)

quick question when playing forza offline with a customized car are the AI cars customized ot stock cause i think it will not look realistic to have a customized car against 15 other stock cars but i really want this feature any way and i agree with Hornet burnout

Their stock.

The concrete advantage would be on online teams and clans racing, as I've come to learn and agree from our discussions. But personal liveries (if they exist) may end up not being in online, so they don't have to be downloaded by each player, for bandwidth and time sakes. All speculation still...

Good point. That would look a little silly.

I'll confess I've changed my mind on Livery editors, for two reasons:

A) I'm not going to race online that much, so other peoples rubbish liveries wouldn't end up offending me that much.

and B) some of the stuff you guys have put up in the FM3 thread is great.

I now wouldn't be against a Livery editor at all.

They're stock as has been stated, but it really seems like an after thought when you are racing.

Kind of like how in NASCAR 09 I use custom cars that have manufacturer decals while all the other cars us generic ones.

well if you can't race your customized cars online than i have to say it really is not an important eddition probably will only look good on photomode what do you guys think ?

I had a model car of that when I was a kid.:sly:

You also can't have too much customization.

Unless you have no taste in which case a little goes a long way.

i have NASCAR 08 and i understand what you mean but atleast the other cars are full of decals but in gt5 all cars will be plain stock cars without even a custom paint job(chrome ;matte etc....)so it is somewhat different from the NASCAR thing

It was more of an example of the differences being an afterthought. Although I could have probably used a better one.

that is what i mean aside from forza every other racing game with customization you can race against other customized cars but any way love the avatar :):):)

Oh come on people! cant we leave the little things like that to the need for speed games? GT has never been about making your car look like xzibit or westwood have attacked it the vile way only they can. You could change how the cars look in GT1 and if they dropped it after that i really dont see it as something they are going to spend any more time on.
Exhaust notes can change and you can put spoilers on in gt4 but seriously please please please lets not have the ability to make our cars look like they should be in 20 pences next video as it would look really silly against cars that look like they have credability.

I like the idea of a livery editor, for the use making road cars into race cars.Could ask companies to sponsor you & give you a select few products, in return their logo is shown on your car or cars. This works in most forms of racing.

you know what doesn't have much credibility? an entire racing series of totally stock looking cars. When is the last time you flipped on a race and saw people racing around in cars that are totally stock visually?? Aerodynamic mods are MUCH more than just rear spoilers and wings. They are entire aero packages. As well as doing things like replacing stock (heavy) body panels with carbon fiber parts to save weight.

frankly there are also plenty of body kits out there that just plain look better than stock. There are plenty of LEGIT visual modifications that are not "ricer" or "distasteful" in anyway.

Shoot, I'm all for visual mods/livery editing simply to allow people to express themselves however they see fit and stand out from the rest of the people. Who wants to jump into an online race with 6 other red Ferrari 458's and run around a track for a bunch of laps looking at the same car?? Talk about boring!

Part of the beauty and art of the automobile (and especially racing) is that your car can be YOUR canvas to express yourself in any way you see fit. Just like the clothes you wear, and the music you listen to.

At the end of the day the "ricer" and the "aficionado" are the same thing. They each share a deep seeded passion for cars, driving them, making them go faster, and looking good while doing it. Just because you disagree on style of modifications, or can't imagine putting neon lights, a big NOS sticker and an aluminum wing on on an Enzo does not make someone who does any less of a car guy...They simply have different tastes.

And anyone who is actually offended, or feels this is actually in some way a disgrace to some kind of car god....they need a reality check. Because this is a video game, and whatever some kid does to his Ferrari will in no way effect your life, or hurt your experience in ANY way...just pass him on the track and you will never have to see him again.

^Very well explained post Metfanant-I suppose I mostly agree although ecssesive 'ricemobiles' would get a little annoying after a while-But not as unbearable as others make them out to be.

Thanks. I really just have an issue with some of the attitudes that people have. I get that people have a problem with "ricey" mods...Doing stupid things like Cold air intakes that look like intercoolers and tons of stickers all over the place...but guess what? RACE CARS HAVE TONS OF STICKERS ALL OVER THE PLACE! And what are those stickers? generally sponsors, and parts that are used on the cars. Shoot I have a small "Bassani X-haust" sticker on the rear window of my Mustang...does that make me a ricer because I want to display how much I love the exhaust on my car?

I don't even want to get into the fact that I've seen so many cars that many people here would dismiss at first glance as a "ricer" just looking at them visually that would absolutely wipe the floor with $100k+ "super cars"

By the way when I say ricemobiles livery-wise I mean like spongebob lambo's and cannabis aston martins*cough*Midnight club LA*

Damn man, I haven't really taken notice of you on here before (I don't mean that in a bad way) but with posts like this I might just start. Not just beacuse I agree with you, but that's really well put too 👍.

Oh I agree, I think that is stupid as well, but I have to admit, in my Forza 3 garage I do have an Iron Man painted Supra, and a Captain America Z06 because I can appreciate the time and effort that goes into creating those liveries with the simple editor. But like I said, most of those liveries are dumb, but at the same time my eyeballs don't melt when I see them, and Enzo Ferrari is NOT actually rolling in his grave lol. Sometimes I think people just take things too seriously. It is a video game.

Thank you 👍

as i have said to Metfanant, he has put his point over beautifuly. Just to clarify it is only really the "need for speed/fast and furious" visual mods that i think look rediculas. Anything that can be modded on a car under the hood is more than welcome be it nos or a diff or upgrading the brake disks.

peace and love

Well, I sincerely doubt Kazunori will include "stupid" mods in GT5. I expect everything given us in GT5 will be a gift oriented to making off and online racing as full featured and enjoyable, and included as much of real world motorsports as he possibly can.

Since I've come down with something and will be home from work sick tomorrow, I might see about putting up a car I've been sitting on since November.

I would like to be able to add my own custom graphics. Design them myself in a paint programme and upload and add them to my cars to create my own racing team identity

the point was the shape of the tips not whether they're chrome or not. The shadows and angles could affect how it looks, chrome or not. One thing though, it could be he difference in year models, but the cooper in the real picture above has one muffler in the center. The cooper s I saw yesterday has 2 mufflers on the sides that then have the pipes leading to the tips in the center, just like the cooper in the game shots above.

As a "second tier" feature (ie, below physics, car and track accuracy), I think livery is close to required. It adds a lot to Forza in both realism and customization. You can avoid the whole clone car race (it would be odd to see two #53 Team Oreca Vipers in the same race) and also stand out as an individual driver, like you might in real life.

I hope to continue labeling my race cars with original team liveries in GT5 as I do in Forza, if you've ever seen a car labeled "Integral Racing", it's probably mine. I hardly ever use the real race cars themselves, and the vast majority of cars online look like professional race machines, especially if you go into the more serious races. The traditional concerns about liveries are greatly overblown IMO.

Those were only a few of mine, I've seen much better online.
