I'm amazed you know so much about a race track south west of Sydney , considering you live on the other side of the planet .

It is an interesting circuit .. parts of it {including that uphill section before the bridge} belong to a still existing kart track {saw Jarno Trulli win his last ever kart race , before heading for the bigger toys} theres a drop-off section where the cars get airborne {as per pic} before a tight left hander leading onto the straight .

The Oran Park layout will be replicated {hopefully with a standard track width} in a new location .. this time even further SW of Sydney , probably in 2010 .

Camera i use .. CANNON EOS 20D {1.6 crop factor digital slr .. 8.1 mp's}
LENS's used .. 50mm f1.4 . 17-40mm f4 . 70-200mm f4 . 200mm f2.8

Camera/Lens on the shopping/wish-list ..

CANNON EOS 1DMKIII .. Lens .. 300mm is f2.8 . 200mm f2 . 85mm f1.2 . 400mm is f2.8 ... plus a 1.4 extender {collectively worth at least 35k in Aussie dollars .. but would cost half in the USA}

I give credit for SPEED airing the V8 Supercars series during the winter months.:D:tup: I make it a point to set up the video recorder to record while I'm at work to watch later on when I get home from work.

Speaking of which, SPEED will be airing the 2007 V8 Supercars season starting on the afternoon of December 1st.;)👍

Ah, that's interesting. I'm hoping they can replicate the tracks style with a wider racing surface at the new track. Dunno how much longer the drive to the track will be for the Sydney residents though.

It wont worry me how long the drive is .. i'll still be there and so will the die-hard fans who equally enjoy the circuit/racing .

BTW .. James Courtney {who has lots of bad luck in the V8 supercars in his second season} also raced in Jarno Trulli's last kart race at Oran Park {Oceania Championship} .. ive followed his career since he became a twice world karting champion {and also because if it were not for Ayrton Senna .. he would have given up racing before leaving karts} .. [he raced F3's in Europe .. JGTC in Asia and at one stage was a test driver for Jaguar F1]

This is a V8 SUPERCAR .. though most look better .

Pic taken at the Mount Panorama circuit .. Bathurst 2006 {second corner on the way down from the top of the mountain} .. while i was 20 feet up a tree .. one hand hanging on and one hand using the camera = damned hard thing to do .

Well, the schedule on SPEED's website has programming infomation on it for up to one month. I imagine as the days in December go along, we'll be seeing more schedule info for the month of January go up.

Watched both series today round lunch. And i've got to say I liked both very much. I only watched half of the DTM but I watched the whole V8 Supercar Series. The V8 series is very "action packed" I guess you could say. Looking forward to more weeks of watching this:)👍

As for me, I've recorded both races to watch later on. Judging from what you wrote, I guess I have something good to look forward to. :sly:

You guys are lucky to have caught it today, but at least I'll have a second chance to see it monday. If I'm not mistaken, isn't this particular DTM race the one where Tom Kristensen was badly injured?

Ya it was. Still pretty cool though even though his car looked like it got split in half. Who won the race this year and not the 2006 season they showed?

I didn't get to see all of it unfortunely, but according to Speed's schedule, I get to see it again friday so I'm recording this time.

V8 Supercars get massive endorsement from American sporting great

One of the biggest names in world motorsport wants to race in the V8 Supercar Championship Series in the future after giving Australia’s premier category a massive endorsement at Phillip Island today.

Dale Earnhardt Jnr, recently voted in the top five of America’s five biggest sporting names, was so impressed with the sport that he now wants to drive. Earnhardt is a veteran of America’s second biggest sport, NASCAR, and the son of legend Dale Earnhart.

He was at the Dunlop Grand Finale at Phillip Island today to start a two-week Australian holiday with friends to escape his crazy world back home. He had one request during his time – to see V8 Supercars first-hand having been a devoted viewer on Speed Channel in the US.

“We’ve become fans of V8 Supercars from watching on television. This series has come a long, long way since I started watching it. I would be quite proud to showcase this off to anyone,” said Earnhardt.

“In a perfect world I would come and race fulltime in the V8 series for a year. I believe I would enjoy it. I like the format over the weekend as far as the rounds go.

“It is definitely different to how we approach the weekend. I would definitely enjoy coming here and racing and dedicating solely to that.

“I could probably talk to the right people and make that happen. I would definitely entertain that. I am going to run my butt off in the Cup cars until I can’t anymore and maybe I’ll move to Australia and race the V8 cars as long as there’s a ride for me.”

Earnhardt was particularly impressed by the technology of a V8 Supercar and the professionalism of the teams that prepare them.

“The craftsmanship on the cars was really, really impressive,” he said.

“The technology is very impressive especially the ability to record data for the whole weekend is much different. We don’t have that. The fuel injection and all those things are also remarkable.”

Earnhardt was full of praise for Australian racer Marcos Ambrose, a two-time V8 Supercar Champion, who he will race alongside next year in the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

Ambrose has done the hard yards working towards a full-time drive at the top level in NASCAR and takes the next step with selected race in the main game next year.

“Having Marcos come race with us has given us a better understanding of the (V8 Supercar) Series,” he said.

“I have watched him pretty closely in the races he has run. One thing that has stuck out to me that Marcos came into the Busch Series he was very respectful and very understanding of his position as a rookie.

“He came in with a lot of humility. That was really impressive. He’s well received and well respected.

“Marcos had a great opportunity at the win in Montreal. The way he handled that was a great example to a lot of other drivers in the sport. He could have blasted a couple of drivers after that race but he didn’t which was pretty impressive the way he handled himself.

“He adapted so quickly in the (secondary) Busch series and the V8 Supercars are quite similar that I don’t think he will have much problem stepping up .

Wow, Jr just keeps on surprising me. I sure wouldn't mind seeing him in the V8 Supercar championship.

The Aussie V8's will be one of the support races for the 2009 Singapore F1 GP {night race}

Looks like Garth Tander won the V8 Supercar Championship.

V8 Supercar
Championship Points

Code:
1 Garth Tander 625
2 Jamie Whincup 623
3 Craig Lowndes 592
4 Rick Kelly 552
5 Mark Winterbottom 420

Tander will be moving teams ; next year he will be Mark Skaifes teammate in the HRT team {tbc}
BTW Tanders wife came second in this years Aussie F3 Championship {by 2 points .. the same margin Garth won by}

Russell Ingall who won the title in 2005 is moving from Stone Brothers Racing to team Sirromet and David Besnard is rumoured to be James Courtneys new teammate .. interesting as they used to be rivals on the kart track from the age of 12 {i was a flag marshall at one race where Besnard clipped Courtney going into the final corner before the finish line}

This year they teamed up to take 2nd place at Bathurst .

*is a big V8 fan* If you are ever up late at night during the season, you can follow the live timing and the tracker for free I think during the year. --- Randy

I LIKE THAT!

:D:D:D:D:D

I also like Billy Connolly, hence why I nearly wet myself watching his latest DVD (Filmed in Adalaide very recently) just a short time ago, actually last night AND right now.

He has a view on the world that really connects with my own personal view, "if you can't take a joke, don't listen in on other people's conversations"

Night all!

The only problem I see with this is that someone can steal your car easly. Because at the end the car started driving and then the door shut.

Right on about Billy Connolly, one of my favorite comedians and quite a good actor. Did you see "Still Crazy".How about Eddie Izzard Neil, his CD " Dressed to Kill" from about 10 years ago is still priceless!!!

Given the schedule for the NASCAR Nextel(now Sprint) Cup series had for this year, the only race he would be able to take part in would be the Grand Finale at Phillip Island. Dunno if the 2008 V8 Supercars schedule will have the series end in December like this year.

Looks like Garth Tander won the V8 Supercar Championship.

So in a way he got promoted to the top team for the manufacturer, am I right? And who'll be taking his place at the Toll team?

x2 Eddie Izzard has to be one of the funniest around and Billy Connolly too! I remember watching "Dressed to Kill" many years ago and was in stiches. So, I had to search YouTube for Eddie Izzard just now and most of it is from his "Dressed to Kill" show. Great stuff!

I think its kind of stupid to have a phone company sponser the race series. I mean people will think the races are alot shorter I mean come on NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. I think they need to get a new sponser.
