Both Caterham and Marussia have reportedly been included on a provisional 2025 entry list, where they are referred to as "CF1 Caterham" and "Manor F1" respectively. I'm still trying to find the original to verify.

I know you weren't being serious, but on a serious note the two won't (or shouldn't) ever mix. I can see two different disciplines emerging at some time in the future; piloted and pilotless motorsports. The former will be what we all know and love, the second will... probably cater only for those really interested in technology and robotics.

How long into the future? I don't know. Unlike some people on this forum, I am not an expert on autonomous robotics.
 
They have to enter now because this is when an entry is guaranteed. If they wait then the FIA can say no.

As long as they have an entry, they can sell themselves as having an entry. All they have to do is put down half a million dollars for it.

Both Caterham and Marussia are in administration and can't do this but their holding companies can because they are not in administration.

Pilotless racing has some be benefits namely lack of driver safety requirements they would have to adhere to so they could literally make X1 style cars with ridiculous G force.

You've still got spectator safety. What sort of barriers are you going to need if you've got X1s zipping around?

And people DO pay to go and watch RC cars now. These wouldn't be RC though, they'd be autonomous and the money will be in the VR rides streamed to your Occulus along with all the other coverage.

EDIT: Why not real RC world-level competitions with the greatest gamers rising up through the teams, controlling real-life crazy vehicles out in some desolate wasteland like Wolverhampton, or the Sahara? I think that will eventually happen :)
 
Or have them remotely controlled by simulated cockpits, driven by gamers.
 
Beside Texas you aren't going to find many venues willing to cough up the exorbitant sanctioning fees that bernie would want.
 
Sky (via the Telegraph) are reporting that Marussia will not be in Abu Dhabi and that they are to be dissolved.

Just saw a retweet thanks to @Clark saying they have ceased trading, too. What a shame! In the same season they finally break their point scoring duct.
 
There seems to be some question about whether or not the company being dissolved is now legally related to Manor F1, the team that holds a standing F1 entry.
 
Here's a full statement from Geoff Rowley, joint administrator, and partner at FRP Advisory, about the decision to close down Marussia:

"It goes without saying that it is deeply regrettable that a business with such a great following in British and world motorsport has had to cease trading and close its doors.

"Whilst the team made significant progress during its relatively short period of operation, operating a F1 team requires significant ongoing investment. The Group was put into administration last month following a shortfall in on-going funding and the administration process provided a moratorium to allow for attempts to secure a long term viable solution for the Company within in a very limited time-frame. Sadly no solution could be achieved to allow for the business to continue in its current form. We would like to thank all the staff for their support during this difficult process.

"As joint administrators our immediate focus will be to assist staff who have lost their jobs and provide them with the necessary support to submit timely claims to the Redundancy Payments Service.

"The team will not be participating in the two further rounds of the 2014 championship remaining, in Sao Paulo and Abu Dhabi. The joint administrators will continue with their statutory duties to realise the assets of the business in the best interests of all the creditors.”
 
Caterham launch a crowd funding to enter Abu dhabi (2.3 million is the target). I can't even right now.
 
Isn't the whole idea of crowd funding to be somewhere where the man-on-the-street can invest a little money into a project he/she believes will thrive in the hope to get money back on their investment?

This sounds more like giving to charity.

Didn't Caterham administrators already stated that if they didn't found a new buyer within 2 (1) week(s) they would throw in the towel?
 
Well, this is all very disappointing.

F1 with any less than 20 cars isn't worth watching. If Bernie's right and we end up with 14, it isn't even worth bothering.

Budget caps. Now. And 80's style.
