I've been trying to get enough time to do the 5-10 lap time trials I usually do, to test my favorite cars. I pick the high speed ring, and use the cars directly out of dealership with no parts and all assists off including traction control. I don't really aim for the top speed, I only try to see the car's limits.

So, I finally got to the Mclaren F1 earlier in the morning and I have to say, Holy ****. Almost 20 years old, and it outperforms every single car I've tested in every aspect. ****, it's even a better drifter. What is it about this car? It cant be the weight alone. Jesus christ. 300kmh+ down the first bend with full steering/throttle power and just free grip everywhere. Sure, if you push it too hard at the wrong speed it'll snap a bit but god damn. best lap was my 6th, finished at 1:07:158 (the 430 Scuderia did 1:11:092) and I swear I could do even faster if I try hard enough. Nothing compares to this car, nothing. I wonder how fast it'll go if I use racing softs.

I searched the forum and came across a thread bitching about the car's top speed not being the same in real life, or having no traction in lower gears. Nonsense. Well, at least the traction part. The car has snap oversteer similar to the FGT but it's actually quite manageable.

So please, forget the top speed and do a 10 lap time trial on the high speed ring then post your quickest lap here compared to some other car's. Don't forget to NOT tune anything, and to turn off all assists including TC.

edit-

Before anybody refers to Jeremy Clarkson's opinion regarding the F1's performance, please STFU. I like the guy but he has no clue what he's talking about. If you really want to know how much credibility his opinion has, watch the V8 ariel atom review when he and James May said the car understeers yet we clearly saw Tiff and the stig kicking the tail out a number of times.

Great car I must say, I got the stealth model and drive it every opportunity I get, defiantly in my list of top 5 cars for gt5

I love the Mclaren F1 in this game. The slightly twitchy handling keeps you on edge the whole time, but you always get plenty of feedback. It's class.

Just dug mine out the garage for a spin after reading this. I love the car, truly fantastic.
Had a go at high speed ring, 5 laps in and I did a 1.01.814 (Sport Soft's).
I reckon I could get below the 1-minute mark if I kept on going.

EDIT: Car was stock apart from tyre change.

Care to try with the hard compound? 6 second difference seems a lot, even with sport softs.

Thanks. I'd also like to know other cars' times, if they were stock. A Ferrari 458 for example.

Anybody else wants to give it a go?

I love this car so much. The first time I got a million credits in the game I immediately bought it.

It does have the oversteer, but I have a DFGT so I can immediately correct the steering and spin the back tires a bit. Overall, I have a blast driving it.

Love this car, I have the stealth edition also. The way the car picks up at high speed is so smooth, sometimes I don't realize that I'm going so fast. But overall, with the DFGT, I'm loving this car.

Loved this car since 92. Mine is historic orange with aero bits and wheels that resembles the F1 LM. My all time fav car. Wish they added the original Le Mans killers instead of just the Longtail. BTW I won with a maxed out F1 against Group C cars.

Same here, and the best part is, it only cost 500 CR each to rebuild the engine and frame for the stealth version.

Its one of those cars that need to be left stock because its that good. the best part about it is its extremely tall gearbox. Its around 65 mph in first, 95 in 2nd, 135 in 3rd, 175 in 4th, etc etc.

I have the stealth model and the stock original and I prefer the original way more.

Just curious...what is the story behind "Historic Orange?"

I thought the Brits were all about British Racing Green. (thats what my F1 was resprayed to)

Historic Orange is the color that Bruce McLaren drove under back in the day. It was used by the company for a long time early on in their racing history.

I hope that we will get F1 LM in future :)

I bought mine in Historic Orange, fitted a rear wing and racing exhaust and it's as close as I could get to the LM. (not my picture, but I found it on the net and it looks the same as mine). Oh and it sounds incredible 👍

I love it so much I own two of them. Stock and LM.

Be sure to fit the Semi-Racing Exhaust though. I don't know why PD did this, but it seems like that they made this exhaust upgrade the "real sound" and made the stock one sound... like something else entirely. It really does sound like an awesome V12 after fitting it though. 👍 :D

I agree. I might just have to buy myself another and keep it stock. I love comparing cars like the F1 to modern supercars around the ring because it makes you appreciate a) how fast the F1 was and still is, and b) how far modern cars have come.

No matter how good any new Mclaren is though, the F1 will always be the ultimate Mclaren. That said, I am very excited to see what they have in store for the F1 successor... If the MP4-12C is anything to go from, it should be pretty amazing

I'm generally not a fan of supercars but the F1 is just incredible. Looks incredible, drives incredible, sounds incredible. Just a badass car all around, easily my favorite supercar both in game and out.

Do you think so? Can't say I would call it the most beautiful car ever made, but it is very purposeful which I like. The LM looks incredible (not sure I would say beautiful though), but in standard road car form I think it's missing something...

It's all dash and no flash, it's not gawdy like Italian supercars and that appeals to me.
