@ Grand Prix - thanks for the tip on the exhaust.

I have a silver stock one currently but will be converting a second one to "LM spec" shortly. May paint it Harrods yellow (chassis 06R)...

Yeah I can definitely appreciate the "function over form" look. Only a handful of truly special cars have been able to combine the two successfully. The F1 comes very close, but I think the Porsche Carrera GT is perhaps one of the finest examples (yes I'm biased, hence the name).

As I mentioned though, I love the F1 LM because it is all business. It's the kind of car you would get out of the way of if you ever saw one come up behind you on the freeway (not that that's ever likely to happen here in Australia) :(

We have similar taste, I'm a big Porsche fan as well even though I don't really fancy European cars. :dopey:

I love this car so much. The first time I got a million credits in the game I immediately bought it.

Same, it's my favourite car and I got it in Historic Orange. This car suits premium so well because its cockpit view has barely any pillars obscuring the vision since you sit in the middle of the car. But its oversteer when you apply the throttle coming out of the corners is annoying.

I bought mine in Historic Orange, fitted a rear wing and racing exhaust and it's as close as I could get to the LM. (not my picture, but I found it on the net and it looks the same as mine). Oh and it sounds incredible 👍

Someone had the same idea as me then :D
Here's mine:

Smack on 👍 It is definitely one of my favourite cars to drive. Not the fastest or easiest to drive, but it commands respect which makes it a challenge. Pulling off a clean lap around the Nordschleife is very rewarding

Did a 1.05.731 with Sport Hards
Nice. You either use a very different racing line, or a wheel because I've found it quite hard to keep it steady down that S after the bridge.

Have you done a time trial using any other stock car with sport hards?

Just curious...what is the story behind "Historic Orange?"

I thought the Brits were all about British Racing Green. (thats what my F1 was resprayed to)

Historic Orange is the color that Bruce McLaren drove under back in the day. It was used by the company for a long time early on in their racing history.
That.

That's why I started this thread. I've always thought it was the fastest car in the world around a track and when I tried it out yesterday, it was actually faster than any other car I've tested in the game.

Has anyone lapped the high speed ring faster in any other stock road car on sports hard? Of course, without any aids or TCS -.-

edit-

The only cars that came close on my board are the Enzo(terrible car to drive), Saleen S7 and the Cadillac Cien.

I was actually using my DS3, as I wasnt with my DFGT at the time.
Took a while to get that time, was struggling to find grip on turn-in when carrying a little too much speed.
I might have a play with it on Racing Softs and adjust the suspension, it would easily crack the minute round there.

I dont usually use High Speed Ring for my test laps, but maybe ill go back and do a few more. Ill let you know if I find any interesting times.:)

i haven't bought one of these yet, but it's on the list. I'm sitting on 7 million credits so when I get home from work...I might have to pull the trigger!

Yep, the MC F1 is in my opinion also the fastest street legal Premium car in the game. Both Enzo and the Murcielago can't beat it. Nice handling, very fast, both good on high speed tracks and tricky once.
I guess Mr Bean knew what he bought. Too bad he smashed his car.
Actually I own two, one in a very strong perlescent orange with spoilers and dark rims and one in silver, original condition. The one in silver still has got 0km.

Yes I also made my F1 to look close as F1 lm. Also I tuned him up to 686 hp and reduced weigh on slimilar level as F1 lm :)

It's the first car I purchased when I reached a million. (Historic Orange....with the wing)

Love it. One of my all time favorites.

Do it, you won't regret it. And while you're at it do you want to swing a couple of million my way? I want to buy the Ferrari F10 but can't bring myself to grind to $10m.

Carrera,

Send my a friend request and I'll shoot you a Ferrari on Monday if you can wait that long - you want an F10 or an F2007?

I was thinking about creating a new thread but, I will just use this one.
Since the McLaren F1 is my favorite car of all time, I started the game with my mind set to buy the car as soon as I get 1 million credits. So I bought and I would like to post my impressions here.

I have nothing to complain about the graphic model. It just looks perfect just like a Premium model should be, and it looks magnificent on photomode and photo travel.
Although, I must say that I'm very disappointed about the physics model of the McLaren F1. I can't believe they could screw up something so simple like gear ratios. They are just all of them wrong. To put this in perspective, Need for Speed 2 got this right. This game, that is a simulator, got it wrong. Here is a table to show:

Speed in mph at 7500 RPM

Gear____GT5_____Real

1st_____81________65
2nd_____120______105
3rd_____150______125
4th_____186______150
5th_____220______180

When you shift to 6th gear in the game, it makes you lose speed as you can only achieve 213 mph at about 5800 RPM, and that even with 639 HP because of oil change. As we all know the McLaren F1 is limited to 231 mph and can reach the 240 mph without the limiter. But that is counting with ram air that must add some 60 HP (to the original 627 HP) at this speed. The game obviously doesn't simulate ram air, but the difference in the speed sure shows how tall is the 6th gear at the game.

So, to everyone thinking they are driving a realistic stock McLaren F1, they just aren't. The problem with gear ratios can be fixed with a FCT. I'm planning to do this. When I discover the right ratios, I'll post here.

About the handling, I can't say much as I never drove a real McLaren F1. But I think it oversteers too much in the game, while every magazine said that it had mild understeer. Since the game apparently doesn't relate grip to tyre width, that might contribute to the overteer since the McLaren have wider tyres on the rear.

Don't get me wrong. I don't hate the game or PD because they didn't model the car right. I just want to make everything possible to drive a car as close as possible to the real thing.

My stock Mclaren cannot do 220, it does around 195.

Anyhow, I'm going to test my McLaren with the Ford GT and compare times. I'll post back here with results tomorrow. If anyone wants to do this test, go ahead and we will compare lap times. I'm going to test them on a few tracks, two of them being Indy Road Course, and High Speed Ring. I might try them on Suzuka too.

Wow, didn't know that you can make the LM in GT5, so far I only have the stealth, looks like I'll be buying one tonight :)

Tiff Needell (5th gear, formerly top gear) says the car is neutral, and it does it's occasional oversteer, especially the stock one, it does have some body roll too.

Found the gear ratios from wiki:

"Both the standard edition and the 'McLaren F1 LM' have the following gear ratios: 3.23:1, 2.19:1, 1.71:1, 1.39:1, 1.16:1, 0.93:1, with a final drive of 2.37:1, the final gear is offset from the side of the clutch.[7] The gearbox is proprietary and was developed by Weismann.[19] The Torsen LSD (Limited Slip Differential) has a 40% lock"

Also:

"The weight was reduced by approximately 75 kg (165 lb) over that of original, through the removal of various pieces of trim and use of optional equipment. The car also had a different transaxle, various aerodynamic modifications, specially-designed 18-inch (457 mm) magnesium alloy wheels and upgraded gearbox. The F1 LM used the same engine as the 1995 F1 GTR, but without race-mandated restrictors, to produce 680 hp (507 kW; 689 PS).
It had a top speed of 225 mph (362 km/h), which is less than the standard version because of added aerodynamic drag, despite identical gear ratios.
The LM is 76 kg (168 lb) lighter than the stock F1 – a total mass of 1,062 kg (2,341 lb) – achieved by having no interior noise suppression, no audio system, a very stripped-down base interior, no fan-assisted ground effect and no dynamic rear wing. In the place of the small dynamic rear wing there is a considerably larger, fixed CFRP rear wing mounted on the back of the vehicle.
The LM has the following performance figures: peak torque of 705.0 Nm (520.0 ft·lbf) at 4500 rpm and peak power of 680 PS (500 kW) at 7800 rpm, it has a redline at 8500 rpm. The total weight of 1,062 kg (2,341 lb) gives the car a 110.16 bhp (82 kW; 112 PS) per litre ratio."

Time to make 1 tonight :)

This is my all time favorite car as well, but I just can't seem to get it right with the DFGT. I've only had the wheel for a couple of months but the car just over steers in the middle of the corner.. I guess I need to ease up on the throttle or something during the turn.

Any driving tips regarding the DFGT and this car's tuning etc, will be very helpful! =)

Slight understeer on the road doesn't mean much... the car will still oversteer on the track at higher speeds... no rear anti-roll bar... which means sometimes, that oversteer cuts in dramatically quickly.

Been a fan of the McLaren F1 ever since I first laid eyes on it in Need for Speed Hot Pursuit many many years ago. Even now, it never fails to impress me, and continues to be, my KING of all sport cars (and possibly, all cars, hehehe)

The succesor of the F1 (which I hear is in the works) has some really major shoes to fill.

Maybe with different suspension setting it will not snap oversteer so much? People who have driven both road car and LM version commented that the road car was designed to ride comfortably hence the LM car had so much improved handling since it was set for racing.

I wonder if theres an F1 out there that sports nothing but raw CF finish. The only one I saw in real life was one painted house of kolour candy orange pearl or something. It was for sale during SEMA in 2001 when I went there, comes with matching Hummer H2 for towing too :)
