Firstly Read don't reach for your - How do you say - The polished Banhammer?

The question is easy and I hope to engender a reasonable responce.

The Meme thread was chugging along at a pace, And I can see that the Mods had to get invovled to prune at some posts (Hey, Even one of my own posts had the light of sanity on it. Which I think was fair enough, The standards that that Mod (Famine) were higher than the original site the picture came from.

However the thread was shut down due to "Lack of Funny"

Really? If that is the reason then... (It can't be the real reason, can it?)

Now I hope one of the Mod team can reply with a reasonable answer. Maybe the pictures slow the site down. Perhaps due to the pictures some sort of Private message sledging was unleashed which was causing alot of hassle for the Mods to police.

A Second Meme thread was started. With what seemed to be choice cuts from the last one. But that was shut down and Locked - with (Glad I just checked) what was a blank message. (I GUess if a Mod shuts a thread down then they have to post.

Which has since been replaced with - of all things a Meme.

Now I am biased (Hate the Radials) but I am sure the second thread would not have even been started if the First one had a notice of why posting pictures or jokes is not allowed here.

I hope there is a logical reason for it that I am unaware of. (Each Meme you read will cost you two tenths of a second at the Nurburgring. I can't prove it but it is a scientific fact.)

Is it some loading of the site from pictures from another site. (I've no idea?)

It must be a fundamental and logical reason.

Anyhow, good day to all. Sorry for the Wall of text.

I'll just comment on 2 things.

The post that I made to close the new thread was never a blank post. The picture was always in it.

Whenever a thread is closed, no matter the reason, the thing "you" should not do is to create another one as the new one will just be locked also.
 
Okay - so Daan did post that Meme all along, It just never showed up on a PS3. Which is why I am glad I checked when I posted here.

I can understand a Mod will automatically lock any repeat threads of threads that have been locked before. That is logical - nip it in the bud. If it was wrong before it will be wrong now - I guess that is what SuperMod Daan did.

Still in the dark as to just why the first thread was locked out of the blue.

It's more because of the fact that the last few posts (e.g. this one) weren't "GT5 memes", as the thread was intended. Presumably, when the mods say "lack of funny", they're not referring to bad jokes, they're referring to the fact that the last couple of posts weren't memes.

Just a hunch.

Disclaimer: I obviously don't speak for mods, but this is what I think from my perspective.
 
Possibly also has to do with how frequently the thread devolved into fighting, be it over what is and isn't funny or "leave Kaz/PD/GT5 alone" sentiment.

I honestly think the Meme thread should be given a second chance. While I didn't post in the thread, I did enjoy reading it because some of the things people came up with were original and most importantly, funny. Shouldn't there also be some rules in the thread too to avoid any conflicts?
 
I did also enjoy the thread. I have nothing against the mods but "Lack of Funny" just sounds very snarky and sarcastic to be honest. I always found it hair splitting that mods had to moderate hundreds of loonies over there life times in the forums but are held at a perpetual knife point for one joke lol. Then again they are the mods not us. If the reason is too much fighting then I understand.

I guess Mods aren't quite feelingless robots. They all have character.

90% of the images there were not even "memes", but some image that "maybe" will make you smile a little.

Most were, what i could consider... spam. Get an image and add an impact font does not make it a meme.

Just my 2 cents.
 
I always thought they (The joke/pun with picture) were an evolution of the original idea anyhow. (Sorry Richard D)

Still no Official Mod reply on the original question.

And the vox pop here (An obscure bolt hole at best) isn't 100% for or against the old thread -

Some don't like jokes - or people attempting jokes
Some enjoy it - or find people trying to be funny...funny

I quite liked the way people would get better the more they posted -

Of course it wasn't nearly 4000 posts of comedy Nirvana.

If only it was a thread of pure Joke and less Poke.

Only if... People didn't feel the need to spoil things.
 
I closed it...more of the posts in recent weeks were about "oh, I'm going to make a post", and "I need to upload a post", rather than just posting an image. It was one post with an image, and 20 posts that were going off-center towards other things and other members...and so that's when it was time for a thread like that to stop.

Nothing personal, lots of threads die every day. It had sort of run out of jokes, and many of them just made little to no sense, as if people felt the need to post in the thread merely for the sake of it.

GTPlanet does better when we have involved, thought-out discussion. Memes are 10-second jokes that use the same punchline seemingly ad infinitum. And it gets a little stale after a while; so the moderation staff's job is to keep the community conversation going, without letting it stagnate. There seemed to be too much back-and-forth away from the topic, and that's why it came to a halt.

Frankly, I probably could have done better than "ran out of funny", but what's done is done. There's nothing wrong with any of you submitting a well-placed joke within the confines of a relevant thread with the right timing and attitude...

We have time now to read the whole thread through, arguments and all.

Ryk, CC, rolfcopter, you others you know who you are - great work - it was fun while it lasted, but a nuisance to maintain towards the latter stages; where was the TS?

"lack of funny' was succinct enough for me (and, yes, I tried my best to not let it stagnate either). I'm all grown up.

So we made a meme thread to replace a meme thread, another meme thread, and then a meme thread about meme threads where there are memes about meme threads.

If only people realised they were Mods - and can moderate their own posts then proper Mods could do more constructive things with their time.

I had a peek at other areas of this very website, funny but not littered with inane comment and padding. Hope that it stays fresh and free of moderation. (As in the Mods don't have to do anything because the good little posters don't spoil it.)

I'll say thanks to the Joke posters at the GT5 thread, I found most funny, Some very funny indead, and even a few educational.

Anyhow without the so called Meme thread to waste my time on , I'll need another excuse for being a slow poke on track.
