I've been thinking, when were the 1st message boards made, who came up with the Idea of the message board. Just curious.

Well it all started back in the garden of Virtual Eden....it was a dark and stormy night.....

I remember posting on message boards back in ~1988 but without the inet you had to call up one at a time.. 2.4k modem.. But message boards should have been around since the 70's..

Haha! Yes, it felt pretty hightech when it was 1988.

Back in 1997, I subscribed to Wired magazine, and they had an article about "The First Online Community." It was a bunch of guys and gals that had online services from around the US and decided to make a central server to hold all their messages.

It was interesting because they put together all this around 1981; no graphics or attachments, basically just threaded email. And the number of people involved didn't grow all that much until the mid-90's; the same core of people ran the server and bulletin boards until 1996 or so....maybe it's still going for all I know.

However, I suppose the US DoD tried this out first, way back in the days when the military was the only entity and user of The Internet.

These boards actually go back to about 1998 when GT1 first came out
