I take it you didn't care too much for "Dying Breed" which is the first track on the album? That's my favorite one on there, that and "Walk Away". Canto 34 is a cool instrumental too. 👍

No, I'm not too fond of the first track. I don't like the verses, but I like the chorus and breakdown/solo. I'd have to listen to the album a few more times before I can pick a favorite, but so far "Burn It Down" is the front runner. Canto 34 is indeed awesome. I was expecting some vocals to come in the first time I listened to it, but I surprised when I found out it was instrumental.

Because if you take away the lyrics every song sounds the same, and then you can compare them to other bands of the same genre the songs sound the same still. Oh and the fan base etc.. etc.. And usually rock bands that discuss relationship stuff is a big turn off.

Mmm... I see where you're coming from. That doesn't explain the extra-strong reaction, though. ;) I won't mention them any more.

Has anybody heard anything about the next Disturbed album? I read that they were supposed to be coming out with some new stuff, but with no estimated release date or anything...

Soilwork are headed back to the studio soon to record a new album. Hopefully it wont suck like Sworn To A Great Divide did.

I just got the new Five Finger Death Punch album. I've only listened to the first 2 tracks so far, and it's alright. I'll check out the rest tomorrow when I have time.

I also just listened to this album today. I be satisfied. I think the growly vocals are well done, but the plain-jane vocals are forgettable at best. The songs are catchy and well written but I wouldn't put any members of this band into a supergroup category like I have seen recently.

Good album.

I liked their CD cover so I watched a couple of their videoclips on Youtube last weekend. It reminds me of Pantera.

Sorry if I seemed a bit 'harsh' on my response and I have nothing against the band.. In fact they are on my iPod which I haven't updated in about a year but anyways.. And the relationship comment I think I took to far because if you look at my last.fm page Hurt is my #3 most played band and they are somewhat similar in music but the fan base is completely different. A band doesn't kill me because I don't like them, its their fan base more or less.. Thats why I react so strong when people mention bands like Seether, Disturbed, Three Days Grace, Korn, Shinedown, System of a Down.. etc.. I can't stand their fan base and what people label them as.

I don't see any of them being looked at as a major roll player in the evolution of metal.. To me they are just another metal band that releases some good music. They haven't come out with a album yet that makes you want to say "Wow!" Nothing against the band as I have purchased both of their albums but I don't think they will ever be looked at as a game changer.

The only resemblance I can see is Phil's and Ivan's attitude... Musically I can't see it but Ivan carries that "I'm a badass don't eff with me" attitude.. Which is good if you want to go get a good workout and go level 7 on a punching bag.

CD!! I liked Sworn :( Although the best song on the album was extra on the special edition. I hope that the next one sounds like Figure Number Five as I think that's their best.. I think I'm going to get some flak from that.. *puts on bulletproof vest*

Well, Sworn To A Great Divide was at least listenable, but nowhere near as good as their previous albums. I used to consider Stabbing The Drama my favorite album by Soilwork, but now I like them all equally...except for Steelbath Suicide and Sworn.

Alright I got a few albums today... haven't listened to them, but just so you know:

  • Nile - Those Whom The Gods Detest (2009)
  • Hypocrisy - A Taste of Extreme Divinity (2009)
  • Neutral Milk Hotel - On Avery Island (is this metal?)
  • Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way To Blue (2009)
  • Between The Buried And Me - The Great Misdirect (2009)
  • Creed - Full Circle (2009)
  • Epica - Design Your Universe (2009)
  • Pearl Jam - Backspacer (2009)
  • Russian Circles - Geneva (2009)
  • Telefon Tel Aviv - Immolate Yourself [2009] (not metal, but pretty awesome still)
  • Wolfmother - Cosmic Egg (2009)

I'm still in the process of getting:

  • Telefon Tel Aviv - Fahrenheit Fair Enough (2001)
  • Immortal - All Shall Fall (2009)

Gave another listen to Five Finger Death Punch and I have figured them out.

Nickelback with an edge.

Uhh... no. FFDP is completely different from Nickelback. It's not just an edge, it's a whole different style. Nickelback caters to a more mainstream audience. "Hard to See" is FFDP's first real radio-friendly single, and even that's played on the heaviest of rock stations. So Five Finger Death Punch is more than just "Nickelback with an edge".

Listen to Bad Company on the latest FFDP disc and tell me that's not Nickelback.

Maybe they're the product of an illicit chance meeting one late eve when too much alcohol was consumed and mutual support was found in the most unlikeliest of places by Nickelback and Pantera

Bad Company is a cover song.. And even then sounds to me nothing like Nickelback.

Yeah Nickelback really does not come to mind when I listen to them... and as said before Bad Company is a cover song originally played by... Bad Company.

Maybe on "Bad Company" Ivan Moody sounds like Kroeger, but Moody isn't nearly as raspy and his voice is a lot heavier. The raspy sound in "Bad Company" comes from the harmonies between Moody and the backing singers. I can see where you got the comparison, but there are very clear differences in their musical styles.

I think Moody is much better in the lower range, but at certain times, the difference between the two is slim.

Nickelback is awesome.... I prefer the riffs, rhythm and grindcore style to that of amateurs like Five Finger Death Bunch

I used to like Nickelback but I got sick of them real fast. Every song seemed to be the same.

Because they all are the same... Now please lets stop talking about Nickelback and friends and discuss actual metal... FFDP is metal and because they did a cover of a very awesome song that's a bit calmer then what they actually write doesn't compare them to Nickelback.
