The Most Efficient Way to Shovel Snow?

I badly need one. My shoveling schedule overrides my schoolwork, and I still need enough energy to complete shoveling, play hockey and finish my homework on time. The area in question is a series of large driveways, and even one foot of light snow IS still hard to clear off. Does anybody have any suggestions on how I could conserve my energy for shoveling and the rest of the day as well, if possible? Breaking up snow before I clear it only works marginally, and I can't get a snowblower...

I have a variety of methods, but none seem to work without using the same technique of breaking snow.

Most efficient way of shoveling snow? With a snow shovel would be a good place to start.

Get an ATV with a mini plow on it. But then thats not 'shoveling' as much as 'plowing'.

Snowblower. No heavy lifting required. I'd be dead by now if it wasn't for mine.

We have one of those uber oversized snowblowers that works quite well. Cleared our drive way today in about 45 minutes and we had about 10 inches, plus our driveway is quite large.

$20 and a 13 year old kid works.

I am 14 years old, and that does not work. A year ago, someone else tried it...

I can only use a shovel, so unfortunately I cannot purchase a plow or an ATV. The driveways are either occupied by cars or very narrow, too.

Thanks for the ideas, though.

As my highly detailed diagram shows, you should start with one pass down the middle. Then followed by shoveling each side out to the sides of the driveway. This method will allow you to move the snow the least amount of distance with each scoop.

Being of shoveling age for more then 20 years has seen this method proven to be most effective. I have on the job training.

Wow, was that done with Autocad?

Anyway, if the snow wasn't deeper than my axles I just made tire tracks and then apply ice melt stuff (salt or whatever) to the rest. If it is that deep then I do something similar to Uno's high-tech diagram.

That could work. Either one, that is. But, I tried to get a 13-year old kid to do it alongside my younger brother...

Young labourers = FAIL

And yet there are sweatshops everywhere in Asia... when will they learn?

I had to break apart a inch of packed snow last year.

Flamethrowers didn't work. Horrible way of melting the snow.
