The whole lighting on the STi seems off, which can be clearly seen on the body as well. That seems to be fixed, looking at the most recent screens from the E³. Again, what's the point of digging up old pics?

Anyways, I'll second what T-12 said, I think.

Wheels look positioned right, and modeled right. Color seems off on the STI but the car is indoors, under fluorescent lighting with no natural lighting hitting it, which could throw things off. You might have a point on the STI color only but not on anything else.

No way am I having Calvin bloody Cline, (if that's how it's spealt) all over my E-type.

CLEAN like my underwear. Typo on my part, lol.

Dang, now I'm torn between watching the Le Mans qualifying and the FM preview...

Ah, well, Forza wins, hands down.
Nice to see the actual top gear camera views. I just need Clarkson's commentary added to the replays. At least the "and across the line!" bit.

Because I totally didn't say this earlier now did I?

And I would absolutely love someone to say that the rims on this
FM4_2011_Subaru_ImprezaWrxSti_Preorder.jpg

Look anything like this

They haven't even got the shade right let alone ANY form of metallic shine.

I think you might be taking this thread a little too seriously. Opinions vary, yes but remember it's a game, which is an interpretation. Also, please refrain from making any condescending, or offensive posts (i.e. [derp][/derp]). Consider this a friendly warning :)

And same to you prymet1me, stay on topic and off each other's throats.

Hurr durr you just did....

Now back to your regularly scheduled message boards....

Yes, they do. Modelled exceptionally well if anything

BOOM! And there we have it. They don't look right because the lighting isn't properly applied to the wheels and tyres. It looks as though they went into FM3, ctrl + c the rims, ctrl + v'd them into FM4 and left the "apply IBL to this item" box unchecked.

But wait for it

but the car is indoors, under fluorescent lighting with no natural lighting hitting it, which could throw things off.

You just HAD to try and come up with some poor excuse for it didn't you?

again you're comparing the wheels from a shot outside with lots of bright sharp lighting to one inside with dull ambient lighting.

obviously you refuse to try and comprehend different kinds of lighting and how they affect objects.

Now i'm not saying they're perfect, but they're not as bad as you're making them out to be. I know first hand that creating realistic shaders is some really hard stuff, especially on painted alloys.

I also don't understand why you care so much to point out something like that?? I mean... what does it REALLY matter?

I just hope early adopters dont get screwed again...like the SLS and LFA debacle.

It's the truth dude. Lighting plays a big factor in how a car looks. Take any car and snap a pic in open sunlight, then move the car to under a bridge/overpass and take another pic. Don't change settings on camera and see if the colors look identical or not. They won't, cuz of the difference in lighting.

Your original point was on the F1 McLaren which looks dead nuts. Your 458 example... well.. the 458 has to my knowledge 3 different wheel colors (standard silver, dark chrome and diamond finish). You even stated they look out of place which they don't... like I mentioned the only thing that looks off is the color. If we had the game we could try to take pics resembling real life, like outdoors in the bright sun, not indoors under fluorescent lighting. If you've ever taken pictures (photography) you'd see how different a color can be if shot under fluorescent. It's why most camera's white balance has a fluorescent mode in the 1st place.

And worst case scenario... if T10 got the color wrong, you can open up the paint mode and paint them to however gold color you want the wheels to be ;)

Do I have to post it again?

The better something looks, the move obvious the flaws. The obvious continuation of this is the more obvious the flaws, the more obvious they are going to get pointed out.

I simply stated the rims don't look right. I never said they look horribly bad and that they belong on an atari game. Unfortunately, a select few among these forums took that as an attack against a game they have never played before and had to raise their strongest shields to try and defend it's honour.

Same here. I might have misplaced my FM3 disk1 from my LE and I might just end up buying a cheap copy of the FUC edition. Hopefully I find it but as an LE owner I felt shafted not so much by making the VIP as DLC but more so that as a prime early adopter, preordered, for me to get the 3 exclusive FUC cars I needed to rebuy the game. 👎👎👎

Are you saying that going from sun to florescent light completely removes any and all metallic shine from something? Yes, Florescents can give a slightly more pale look to colours but it doesn't destroy reflections.

Just now, in the room I am in that is lit by a florescent light, the metallic items look metallic, hell even the aluminium handles on my Lars Ulrich signature drumsticks have a beautiful grainy shine to them. They do NOT look dull and flat.

You said, and I quote "As for those Mac F1 photos. The body looks awe inspiring, the rims still look wrong... " followed by the mention of them looking out of place... and you weren't talking about the STI. You were talking about the Mclaren F1 which looks dead nuts to the real thing in my book.

Don't get defensive when people call out the BS. You ended up having to resort to the STI which at most, the color looks a bit off. It's not apples to apples comparison. The real shot is outside with pure natural sunlight gleaming off the wheel and the FM4 shot is indoors under fluorescent lighting, of a beta build nonetheless. Retail copy isn't even here yet to really make that comparison legitimately.

Besides, metallic paint doesn't shine under the shade ;)

Too bad you couldn't use the edit button...

Not you, cuco. Post after me next time. :p

The VIP thing was also silly because not all stores had it for sale. I really wish they cut all that BS out. That really makes me upset :grumpy:

The F1 rims in the screenshot don't look right. Granted, they are much closer then the STi's but still not right. Someone said earlier after I pointed out the lack of reflected colour that it's only due to there being nothing but tarmac to reflect even though there are massive fields of grass just out of shot...

Metallic paint doesn't shine under the shade ;)

And there is so much shade in the perfectly lit warehouse...

That's the Topgear Studio, the. Eagled eyed amongst us might just spot a battered Toyota hilux hanging in the background :)

Didn't notice that on the first viewing but now I see it.

Hopefully we can take proper photos from these locations.

Same here man. I was kind of expecting more out of the VIP. Won't gripe too much... we did get some extra cars gifted to us even though some of the liveries were awful. I didn't use the VIP FM.net stuff so for me it was the packaging, the 'VIP LE DLC' which ended up being open to others (didn't mind, they had to pay extra for it) but those 3 exclusive FUC cars.... they should have been given to all VIP owners, LE or paid VIP DLC people. Who wouldn't want an SLS, LFA and the Koenegsigg (ya, I spelt it wrong )

I'm not really tempted to get the LE for FM4, if one exists. Something has to make me really want it. I got the FM3 one but I was expecting a ton more than what was given. Guess I set myself up for that. Then this whole FUC thing is making me want to avoid buying ANY DLC unless I absolutely want a specific car, and rebuy FM4 a year or so later with all the DLC included.

I learned don't count of the actual game to look anywhere close as these pictures.

i.e don't expect the game to look like this.

Photomode most likely will look like this. Gameplay on the other hand will not. It will look better then FM3 but there will always be a huge gap between gameplay (at 60fps and physics calculations) and replays/photomode (at 30fps and static vehicles)

Often even with Photomode shots has been edited to make them look better.

Has T10 stated, like they did with FM3, that these aren't bullshots and are taken directly from the game?
All the shots we saw from FM3 were, as all of T10 claimed, direct shots from the game's photomode, unedited outside of the game.

I think we all already expect the photomode pics to be a lot better looking that in game gameplay, not that gameplay looks bad from the compressed off screen cam shots we have so far.

You could replicate almost all of the pre release FM3 screenshots except for the multiple high lod car ones.

They already have shown us the Autovista mode in real time which is the game at it's highest LoD.

Remember, since FM3, Microsoft has released a new devkit that has more memory which allows dev teams use more of the 360's potential. (i.e the debug software doesn't encroach on the normal limits of the 360.

Why oh why do keep people bring this up over and over. All the racing games have photomodes that make the cars look better. In game is different, all the time....since Pole Position.

Still not sure how this becomes a debate. That is like debating whether or not water is wet.
