No, children starving is tragic.

This is a dude who lost his saved games because he didn't bother to spend $5 on a USB thumb drive.

Hardly the same thing.

Hell people, just ask around your friends or something if for some reason you (or your parents) have managed the hundreds of dollars for a current gen console, the $60 or so for the game, and an internet fee for you to post on forums yet can't find a few bucks for a USB drive. Plenty of people probably have old ones laying around unused. My main backups are done on a 128mb stick that came FREE stuck to a Cadillac ad in a magazine about 4 years ago.

I feel bad for people who lose their data. Far less so for anyone who hadn't bothered to take the simple & cheap precaution of backing up their data.

Let this dude's experience (which seems to be repeated DAILY here on the forums) be a warning to you.

Compassion? And I thought it was dead 👍

I know I needed a memory stick but I haven't got one as money is very tight at this present moment in time
You could have backed up to another account on your PS3. Not ideal, but it protects you against corrupt save files, though not PS3s failures hence external USB devices are better.

I have my main accounts (three of them) each with a fair number of cars. I have each save backed up onto USB drives and I also set up three offline accounts so that I could also keep a copy of the save file on them as well.

I also do a full system backup every week or so in case I get a hard disk problem.

Overkill maybe, but at least I am relatively safe!

My original UK PS3 died about a month before GT5 came out and I started GT5 on a hardly used fat US 80 Gb PS3 so am not going to run any risks!

If you are in need of any other cars send me a Friend Request and I'll see what I can do.

Sound advice really, I can never be bothered digging out a USB stick. I am more worried about a crash mid save than a drive failure so I will create a new "backup" user on the PS3 and simply do as you suggested 👍

To the OP I think I got a couple of M3s your welcome to have

I have the m3 csl 03 and the m3 04 what one you wanting. I also have two 320i touring cars if you would prefer one of those, remember i can only gift once a day.

Happen to me, yes, can happen, the HDD dies, simply as that and one day before the 1.05 patch, i recommend to ALL to backup every day, i must replace my HDD and start over.

I have the first 80 gb model with BC, now i put a 320 gb HDD and works perfect.

edit: looks like GT5 push hard the PS3.

After reading this, I do have to say I tore my room upside down looking for my USB key, and I have now saved my 800kb file. One can only learn from others mistakes. However, I would also like to know if there is a virus or is it possibly related to GT5 game issues. (look to first post of mine, similar issues as OP).

Time to learn how to duplicate. :) Never lose a car you gift again.

Just save game and back it up at the point you want it to be when you are done gifting. So now with game save on usb, return to game and send 1 car and 5 paint chips and 5 parts and then quit game. Copy USB game save back to PS3 hard drive and all returns. You do not get to send anymore that day. But no items were lost on your end and someone got what you sent to them.

To the OP... I just moved and my internet will be back up next week... If you need some rides just ask.. I'll send a couple your way... And just a small tip.. Get a cheap USB stick ;) I backup my save file after every session ... Sounds obsessive compulsive, but I would not enjoy experiencing something like this myself.

Dude im gutted for you !! that sucks big ones .

CSL hey !!

ive not got any CSLs but if theres any other cars just ask dude and ill sendd you one.

a man with tastes :)

I had the same problem last week, after trying everything, I wash the blue ray disc under cold water. Magic, it worked again!

To OP and those replying about freezing on menu's etc.
What is your internet connection like? Mine varies, on a good day it run normal. If everyone is at home and connected it slows my connection down, meaning GT5 struggles to connect for 5 minutes and then gives up. Depending on your connection / need to go online (as soon as you go to GT life it connects, not just when you look for an online lobby btw), you can turn the network connection off and save yourself a lot of time, and the possibility of it freezing and killing your save game.

I've been on the case today and got a Usb stick now. Borrowed one from a mate.
All i'm after at the moment is the M3 CSL for online racing.
Think i'm gonna be sticking with online racing for while I haven't got the energy to go through Gt life at the mo.

Thanks for all the offers by the way. Much appreciated.

Just gone from bad to worse.
Total Ps3 failure now.👎

After being away with work for a week I've just turned my PS3 on only for the same thing to happen. Its like I'm playing for the first time.

Well gutted. Had no warning and no error files.

I wasn't even saving when I turned it off last week.

Still got major problems.
Ps3 keeps locking up nothing works. Control pad won't switch it on/off etc.
Played Fifa for around an hour yesterday then Ps3 went funny and wouldn't work.
Still getting messages saying corrupt game data.
Can the hard drive be Formatted and does anyone think this will cure the problem or should i just bite the bullit and phone Sony for a replacement?

No one's touched it except myself.
Today it's had a rest to be fair.
Normally bob is racing most of the day but today it's been off until about 10pm yesterday.

There's your problem right there, after lavishing all your attention on it, you left the poor thing on it's own for a whole day, and just before valentine's day too.
Poor dear probably thought you went and cheated with an x box and died of a broken heart:)

Moral of the story? BACKUP YOUR SAVE- every day!

I just leave a USB card reader with an old 2GB SD mem card in it always plugged into my PS3 via a USB 2.0 hub. Then I can still plug in my G27 directly to the PS3 and my controller charger, bluetooth ear piece charger, and mem card reader plugged into the hub.

I don't have to physically plug anything into my PS3 every day but still make an external save game file copy backup. I wonder how many people don't realize you can use a USB hub with a PS3?

In this case it wouldn't have made a difference.
Everything was corrupt.
I've formatted it and it's still not working. It's getting sent back now anyway.

Yeah it would have made a difference. You wouldn't have lost your save game file- the LAST one that wasn't corrupt. Don't you see? When it got corrupted you would have had the last good one that worked on a USB stick.

Then you get a new PS3, then use last good save file. You would have only lost the last DAY's worth of progress in GT5, not ALL your progress in GT5.

:ouch::indiff:💡:guilty:

PM me or contact me on PSN with your car request...I only have about 30 percent of the cars, but there's probably something you can use...

Been on the phone to Sony's technical team and according to them the error code is something to do with a copyright infringement on my system.
But could tell me exactly what it was.
The point being it was all corrupt saving a corrupt file would of been pointless so even if I had backed it all up I would of been backing up a corrupt file.

Thanks for the offer very much appreciated. I'll have the same Psn name but I've just started a full format of the system and it's got 16 hours left.
If it sorts my problem out i'll give you a shout.👍

So your PS3 dying was a coincidence? I doubt it. Plus the file was not currupt until it was corrupt. You would have had one before it got corrupt. Anyway- you learned a lesson. Happens to the best of us.

this is why every time before i start gt5 i back it up into the usb stick

i have had many hours playing gt5 and it would suck to lose it all

sorry bud

Sony keeps tracks of every stats, maybe you can contact them? I don't know.

Been in touch with them they couldn't understand why it failed?

Man, I have to back up my stuff now. I honestly don't even know how to do it yet, I hardly find time to play right now as it is, but it'd still suck to lose it all.
