The Police

I didn't know about that law. Although I'm certain that it is from Germany. The license plate is from Germany and the color of the car doesn't match + Polizei is German. (in Dutch it would be Politie)
Take a better look at the license on the trailer. :sly:

Like I said, that Dutch driver could be coming from Germany or in Germany since it appears he's on holiday. Or, he got pulled over in Holland, or that's near the border crossing.

The license plate on the Porsche is a government official plate, issued between 1985 and 1993 in Meschede, Germany (though it could've been issued as early as 1971).

The license plate on the trailer is indeed from Holland, issued between 1965 and 1976, though it's actually a regular passenger car plate instead of a trailer issue.

I mean I was driving home from work this morning on the 101FWY here in Los Angeles, and I swear I counted 53 people talking on the cell phone, reading something, eating something, brushing hair, fixing contact lenses!!, and all these other things that they shouldnt be doing.

Like 115mph?

scoobyonline200
why keep bringing that up? who cares..the question had nothing to do with speed.

People here care. You can't expect everyone to magically forget something incredibly stupid you posted here.

Well then you should go post over there not here, this has nothing to do with THAT post so why post about it here? And well like if Im the only one who has ever done that, but anyways so is it better we have more freedom to do what we want when we drive rather than give some up to be able to drive like they do in the autobahn.

That's the thing - you don't. All of those things you mentioned are illegal - although it's still legal to use the phone while moving in a few states.

Besides, at 115mph, you are driving like they do on the Autobahn, only you're doing it illegally.

In context, all of the things you mentioned in the post, "talking on the cell phone, reading something, eating something, brushing hair, fixing contact lenses" are as illegal as driving at 115mph.

If you don't want it brought up, you shouldn't have mentioned it in the first place? Why did you mention it anyway? I can only think that you were proud of it.

someone already brought it up.

so i'll just add more. doing 115 is just as reckless when driving as talking on a cellphone.
its even more reckless depending on traffic density, time of day, location etc.

30 miles out of palm springs at 2 in the morning i aint complaing about. ive been there and done that. but its still reckless. and lose your license if you get caught doing this, fast.

I mentioned it because I didnt know that I would get flamed. I wasnt expecting all these " you idiot" or "Stupid A**" and all these things. If I knew that I was the only one here that has gone more than 100mph on a public freeway at 3:00am I wouldnt have posted it. It was a mistake of mine and I'll admit to that. but I mean hey thats what these forums are for no? you post something stupid and people will correct you. And thats why I like these forums, even if I get flamed up. I still think great of all the people here, even those who dont like me or hate me. well back to the post's subjec, what exactly (Besides the 115mph thing) is illegal to do here in California while driving? like in exact details.....unless there's somewhere online where I can read it :D

i think theres a difference in how you say it. for instance i have done 120 plus in my car going to phoenix. it was late at night, only on the pretty much deserted stretches with no other traffic close by (except the impala doing about the same a few hundred yards behind me) and i wasnt racing anyone. i was simply going to visit my mom.

but im also the first person to say its dangerous, its stupid, and its not something to show off about. and i didnt come in here saying "hey guess what i did last night." i dont condone talking on cellphones just as much as i dont condone speeding way way beyond everybody else on the freeway.

there are ways of saying things that can change how the message is received.

I've known about Northants' 360 for about 18 months. It's red and runs on private plates. And I've passed it.
Do you always pass Ferraris and police cars when driving? ;)

You'd be surprised.

Our police cars tend to sit around 56-65mph on motorways. People then get very nervous about passing them, despite the fact they know the speed is rather low, in case they get in trouble for passing a police car. Seriously. The amount of traffic queues caused by people panicking when they see one is staggering.

The reality is that very few police cars will pull you over for anything below 80mph on a three-lane motorway. They know that 80mph is a much more reasonable speed limit, and we know too. But our maximum limits are still 70mph (set, as the maximum speed of the Ford Anglia, in 1967) because politicians like to bow to public pressure groups who are generally anti-car.

Similarly, Ferrari drivers tend not to speed. After all, what's the point in having this nice, expensive car when you've had your licence taken off you?

However, on this occasion, the Coperrari was on the hard shoulder, having already pulled someone over for, presumably, speeding.

scoobyonline200 - I seriously doubt you're the only member of the site ever to exceed 100mph on public roads. No-one else acts like it's anything to be excessively proud of though.

Heh, mostly the opposite happens around here – most of the CHP (California Highway Patrol) like to travel upwards of 80 mph... few things are more unnerving than to see an officer tailgate you while you're going a good clip in the fast lane.

I've definitely witnessed the "sitting" syndrome though... in fact, just yesterday, I merged onto the freeway, and noticed that there wasn't anybody on it. Then a huge flood of cars came up in my rear view mirror, with a CHP at the front of the pack... he was going right around 65, and nobody would pass him.

I've seen worse though. Once when going up the grapevine, there was one of those police van thingies that are used to transport inmates (like a Ford Econoline, dressed in police garb). These things are only used for transportation, not for pulling people over. Since it was heavy, it was going 55, and staying in the slow truck lane, but nobody ahead of me would pass it (speed limit's 65). And that nonsense went on for about 7 miles.

I accidentally doubled the speed limit and almost spun out in front of a fire deparment SUV yesterday. I guess the feeling is that those vehicles have radios and if they think you're offensive enough, they can radio the cops.

Incidentally, I know someone who was pulled over on a BMW motorcycle in Montana by a hazardous materials truck. If you're doing something very risky to other drivers' lives (I believe he was doubling the highway speed limit), many government vehicles won't hesistate to pull you over (not road construction workers, mind you, but fire, ambulance, etc.).

Ah, I didn't know that. Of course, passing a police van going 55 isn't terribly dangerous.

You almost spun out yesterday? :odd: You sure do drive aggressively.

Anyway to colaberate on a statement eairlier... Yes they use HSV commadors (sorry dont know the spelling :indiff: )

We reciently got new HSV's in which are the new patrol cars, and they stand out like a sore thumb! (colour wise i mean, the have a fulro blue and red paint job) Which is good i guess.

In Australia i'm pretty sure that in pursuits, that if it goes beyond a certian speed limit, the regular patrol cars get called off the chase and the TMU's (traffic management unit) come out to play, they are unmarker cars which are generally cars which can eaisly reach high speeds and of course trained for this type of thing, these guys are usually on freeways just going up and down and waiting on calls. I got this info off a mate who did work experience at a station and was riding shotgun with a TMU officer for a few of his days there...

Anyway there's my 2 cents for now :dopey:

Yeah, around here they just use bottom-of-the-range Executive Commodores or XT Falcons. I have seen only one SS Commodore, and i must admit that it looks pretty awesome in Police guise. If i ever considered buying a Commodore or Falcon (Ha!), i would look out for a ex-Police car, they are supposedly good buying.

Yeah. It was in a parking lot - the lanes curved and the teenage girl in the Dodge Neon didn't see it and crossed into my lane. After I honked at her and slammed on the brakes, I floored it and made the next sharp turn to show frustration, not seeing the fire department SUV. Whoops!!

Either way, the new used Mercedes badly needs some new, non-used tyres.
