When will you guys finally accept that most hiphop lyrics aren't just about that?? It is the garbage rap you see on tv which is mostly about that, which I hate just as much as you guys do, maybe even more.

I couldnt agree with you more. I love hip-hop, and I absolutely hate rap, with the exception of a few artists like eminem, and ludacris which i get a kick out of because its just funny. and busta rhymes cause hes been around a while and you gotta give him credit for being able to spit out words so fast and still be able to understand what he's saying.

Unfortunately most people throw rap and hip-hop into the same group, and since everything they hear on the radio and MTV sucks, therefore, that must mean hip-hop sucks. Sorry guys, but for the most part you arent going to hear anything good on the radio or MTV. If you want to hear GOOD music, dig a little deeper, look up cds and listen to clips online @ cdnow and buy something different for a change, maybe even get a satellite radio 👍. Thats just my opinion, and it applies to all music, not just rap and rock.

Dont forget, what you see on MTV is the epitome of whats in , such as being a "pimpin playa", with "lots o' hoes" and "lotsa paper" (thats money for you not cool people) and dont forget the "bling-bling" on your escalade. And dont forget to catch shows like Jessica Simpsons show and the Osbournes so you can learn how to live your life just like your favorite rock/pop stars!!! Oh, and if youre fat, getting surgery is the way to go, because it will make you look sexy and cool. Forget putting forth any effort into becoming healthy, instead, have your stomach stapled so you have to eat 12 meals a day just to keep yourself from starving to death!! But who cares?!?! Members of the opposite sex will be all over you!!

Sorry for my rant, but MTV just ruins everything for the masses, ignoring the people that want to do something different in order to bring you more of the same bull:censored:, because if everyone is watching it, and the ratings are still high, it can never get old!! 👎:grumpy: man, just typing that up got me bent all out of shape im so angry about it.....

The members that posted these earlier know what Im talking about...These are fine examples of hip-hop, not the garbage that MTV and the radio crams down your throat.
Last Emperor
Jurassic 5
Dilated Peoples
Swollen Members
Digable Planets
Deltron 3030
Most of the music produced by Dan The Automator
Public Enemy
The Pharcyde
KRS-One
Mos Def
Beastie Boys
The Roots
if i may add a few more...
Talib Kweli
The Beatnuts
A Tribe Called Quest

While I may not be a fan of Rap/Hip-Hop, there are some artists I can tolerate. Beastie Boys, House Of Pain, and Cypress Hill are tolerable enough for me.

Everybody has their opinions on what they like and what they don't. You can't force a person on his/her will to like a certain thing or expect him/her to like a certain thing. That is a given fact and facts can never be proven wrong. No doubt about that.

From my point of view, the Rap/Hip-hop era has gone slowly downhill during the mid-90s. When most of the artists wanted to be more commercial, they get overplayed on MTV and the radio. This is calling "selling out," although it doesn't necessarily applies to newcoming artists who want to be in the mainstream.

I personally don't understand how anyone can listen to rap for more than 2 seconds! It grates on your soul and eats away at your fragile existence! It's also got so much of a bad following these days with all these teenagers struttin' around thinkin' they're all whack...! 👎 :grumpy: :dunce:

I can live with hip hop, or rap. I'd just rather listen to rock. Bands like Bowling for soup, Blink 182, American Hi-Fi, Alkaline Trio. It doesn't get much better than that. 👍

i dont really like it rap because:

A) They dont make their own music they get some random person to hop on to the synthesiser and make a tune, whilst with rock music the band make their own music

B)how is shooting som1 then getting high considered as lyrics??

That's not true.

You're only listening to one genre of rap music. Don't be so stereotypical. :grumpy:

Theres genres within rap music???

example??
They're not so much genres as just individual styles. As long as you avoid the MTV/Radio garbage, you'll find some REALLY good stuff floating around. Of course, you've never experienced anything outside of the "pop" stuff they try to shovel down your throat on TV/Radio

MTV - pop music intended for mainstream media and for 16 year old kids around the country. There's really no foundation to the musicians and their styles. They have nothing to say, they just want the money. ie, Nelly, 50 cent, Lil Jon, Britney Spears (not rap, but she's MTV all the way)

Underground - music that MTV and radio will rarely, if everplay because it doesn't suit the "image" that MTV wants to show. There's deep foundations to most of the music, the lyrics actually mean something, and in many cases, the musicians will be playing to fight a cause. ie, Last Emperor, KRS-One, Talib Kweli, Public Enemy

Hip-Hop - Music for the sake of music. Again, they don't try for mass appeal and pimping their rides. ie, DJ Shadow, RJD2, Deltron 3030, Swollen Members, Dilated Peoples, The Pharcyde, etc, etc.

Well I would personally classify myself as a rap addict but real rap.

The problem with rap is most peoples 1st album is alot better than later albums mainly because they suddenly discover they can make millions going mainstream. A perfect example of this is eminem both the slim shady lp and the martial mathers lp were excellent but the Eminem show was lacking in qualit and I cant honestly say there is a single song on Encore I actually like.

Dizzee Rascal is real rap or rather was untill very recently his first album "Boy in Da Corner" had to be the best album ever and won him the Mercury Music award.

"Raskit dont give a damn (i mean)
Aint that bothered not much, dont care
Catch me if you can (i mean)
Its possible you will get hit with a chair
Talk like your the man (i mean)
If you want beef you'll get a fair share
Dizzee got a masterplan (i mean)
I'm a problem for Antony Blair"

The backbeats may be repetitive and the lyrics violent but hey its stress/anger music and nowhere in that album does he ever talk about money, a weakness of many rappers.

However in showtime his standard went down, its a good album with great tracks such as hype talk and Stand Up Tall but it is not consistantly excellent and has failing lyrics such as

"You dont want the beef,
You dont want the grime,
You aint got the guts,
I aint got the time,
But you can come to the manor get jacked,
Come to the manor get killed,
Come to the manor get shot,
Come to the manor get killed."

By the way "the Manor" refers to a council estate in Bow and he has not yet stooped so low as to write entire traks about his millions.

Flame-returns
words about DizzyRascal

I must admit his first album is pretty damn good, although I must admit i'm not a big fan of the grime style (it is grime isn't it?) I haven't heard his second album.

I really hate always having to defend this genre, and I even contemplated not posting this at all, but everything that people generalize about rap can be said about any other genre. If you listen to a bunch of bad, generic rappers, then you're most likely going to hate the genre. If you give it a chance and actually hear some of the more creative and original artists, then you probably wouldn't be whining about it so much. I'm pretty open minded about music, so I don't go 'I hate all rock because I heard some Linkin Park and it was horrible.' Just like there's many different kinds of rock, jazz, pop, there's many different kinds of rap, some good, some bad. Go and listen to some underground rappers, or go back and look at some of the artists that made the genre what it is today, I doubt you will find anyone singing about 'gettin crunked in the club.'
