I didn't know there was a new one, heck, I rarely see any of the old '80s one around here.
Will they ever sell the new volks scirrocco in America? I've never seen one. If not why haven't they???
I would buy one if it was available in the US. It's like that Focus RS... why don't they just sell it here??
its a 2-door sports coupe, front wheel drive. the new golf is a 4-door, 4wd. These American guys that work for a car magazine went to europe and did a review on one. They said they loved it. I want one. VW USA is dumb. They would sell loads of those in the US.
It sounds like VW thinks it will ruin the GTI's sales record in the US or something. People don't care about a company's sales records, they care about cars.
If this is true they are saying that they would rather be able to say "the Golf GTI is the best selling compact hatchback in the USA" (or something of the like, this is just an example) than sell a new car to Americans and make lots of money. VW USA is dumb.
YSSMANIt is much more complicated than that. Volkswagen North America would need to get the car certified to American safety and emissions standards, market the car, train the sales people, and finally get it to the customer. With the car nearing the end of its cycle, why would Volkswagen North America make the investment for maybe a year or two long run? Particularly when Volkswagen is bleeding money in the US?

The Focus RS was targeted at the European market i think, which is why they've not considered a powerful hatchback for the US.

Because they want us to buy a damn pickup truck instead. Or some garbage crossover.

hawkeye122I believe there was discussion somewhere that because the Scirocco isn't much more expensive than a Golf, but more expensive to produce, they already make a pretty thin profit on all of the ones they sell in Europe. After you do the Currency transfer, and the shipping, VW found that it wasn't really worth it.

homeforsummerBingo. It simply isn't economically viable to sell in the US.
Yeah, but with no real proof (although, proof would be hard to distribute in this case). Sounds a lot more of a quick excuse, though.
Volkswagen should and probably will sell the car in the States.
They're a business; all they want to make is a profit and if they get enough demand then they will sell. It's a Golf GTI in a better looking but less practical form so that's the downside, however of they're selling it everywhere else I don't see why they wouldn't sell the car in America, seems like a no brainer to me.
