A relatively promising pre-season has lead me to create this early.

Two 1-0 wins in a three-way 45-minute match tournament in Malta - winning the JPL Triangular Trophy  - were followed up by a 2-0 win away to Northampton Town (Jeffers, Johnson), a 2-0 win away to Hartlepool (Tudgay, France [Triallist]), a 0-0 draw at home to Premiership Hull City and a 2-2 draw at home to Premiership Blackburn Rovers (Sodje, Tudgay) - as well as the traditional Stocksbridge Steels game which has been going on as long as I can recall, with Wednesday usually playing their academy kids and losing. Instead they fielded 7 full squad members this time and won 2-1 (Modest, Sodje).

So. Roll on the first game where we get stuffed for 5.

Two games, five goals...

Wednesday 2-2 Barnsley

The three goals against Rochdale were, though against Rochdale, stunning. I'm still genuinely excited about the season, even after two games :D

Indeed. I thought they looked rather fetching yesterday in their blancmange kit.

I think they have been made to wear this shirt this season as punishment for being so bad last season, kind of like being made to do PE in your pants & vest if you forgot your kit when at school.

This has to be the worst strip in the whole of the football league 👎:yuck:

Anyway, good luck for the season Famine, I predict it will be Newcastle, Sheffield Wednesday & Middlesbrough who get promoted . . .

I reckon West Brom will just run away with it - with ex-Wednesday pairing Scott Carson and Chris Brunt :D

Boro... I'd be willing to put some money on Boro being relegated. They've done okay so far and they've managed to keep much of their squad together. But as with last year, once the regulars pick up a knock or leave (Tuncay is all but gone, Downing's already gone) they're replaced with kids and Southgate has no imagination at all.

I have a special hatred for Newcastle United which is very long-winded and complicated. But I don't think that'll stop them pushing at least the play-offs. Sadly.

Wednesday... We're amazing with our inconsistency - we can be brilliant and awful sometimes even in the same match (take the Barnsley game - 2-0 up in no time at all, drawing the game). I'd wager we'll be in the play-offs at the end but that's about it. I'd be happy with that.

If they keep Huth and Wheater they'll be solid. I cant see relegation but promotion I can. Some decent kids playing for them like any club in the division, Sheffield United last year the right and left wing backs both 19 year olds.
We had Kyle Walker on loan beginning of last season and he was brilliant. You can with something with Kids.

The kids need a good hand at the tiller though. Which isn't Southgate.

I'll admit he is a bit dull. His autobio's a good read though.

I think he's done alright there, apart from the Alfonso the flop. I can't see them being relegated with the budget they have but they need to get out of that division asap.

Alan Hansen said "you can't win anything with kids" once, the kids he was talking about proved him wrong.

But generally speaking if you over rely on youth players you will lack the experience and the stamina to go the distance. Look at Arsenal, they have a very thin squad before you start bringing in the youth team players as cover, been a while since they won anything. They have talented youth players, but they arn't mature or strong enough to manage a lot of the time. Giggs, Beckham, Shcholes, Butt, Neville they were almost a one off in that they all came through at the same time and the team and fans never looked back. We're trying to bring a few young players through now but it's not having the same effect.

Middlesborough could end up in big trouble, they really ought to sign some more experienced cover.

What's the update on Jeffers, is he still on the transfer list or was that just to teach him a lesson?

Other than his name, I've no idea who Luke Boden is...

What's the update on Jeffers, is he still on the transfer list or was that just to teach him a lesson?

He was sent off during the cup tie at Port Vale (where Laws inexplicably fielded a weakened team after saying a cup run would be good for the club's finances) for a headbutt. He was fined and transfer-listed as a consequence.

OooohDan. Folk have been banned for less.

And can I just add, Paddy Kenny, lol

I saw this while I was looking at the site, so I thought I may aswell post it here, incase anyone is interested and hasn't seen it.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/501698/sheffield-wednesday-matchday-ticket?

The deal is that you exchange your Tesco Clubcard vouchers for a ticket to a Sheffield Wednesday Home game ( There is a choice of three games according to the site ). £4.50 worth of vouchers gives you a Adult ticket and £2.50 worth of vouchers a concession ticket. I think this is a good deal if you are a Wednesday fan and just happen to shop at Tesco.

5 points from safety, I'm not surprised Famine hasn't posted in here for a while.

Especially after the opening post.

A relatively promising pre-season has lead me to create this early.

I do follow Wednesday quite closely myself. As a Derby supporter I like to see how our old players and second rate players are doing on loan at Hillsbrough.

Not an easy run in either, three play-off chasers including Utd out of six remaining games.

Oh god, you're a sheep!

Yeah, if you mean a Rams fan. :) are you a florist? :indiff:

Just wanted to say good luck to Wednesday for Sunday. A good showing will help the cause no end and your neighbours don't have much to play for.

Last game of the season against Crystal Palace at home should be interesting! Anyone betting Famine's post count might be a bit low on 2nd May? :)

It would be a travesty to see them drop again. Palace have been picking up the points but a visit from promoted West Brom is not a given, the last time they sealed promotion they bagged seven goals in their final game. Similarly, a chance to jump above Palace is tricky with a trip to Cardiff who are themselves chasing the play-off's.

I really hope it goes to the last game.
