I'm glad U18C and Sage are OK. This is terrifying. One day later, and my dad's friend would have been caught up in that. He was going to go to a resort in Phuket.

He was going to get Phuket allright.

Only because it got the point across and made you feel bad. I couldn't even imagine the horror going on over there. The devistation over there makes our hurricane in the US devistation look like nothing.

This is an incredible story! This boy was lost and couldnt find his family. Here he is reunited with his dad!!!! 👍

I feel sorry for the woman that lives over in Australia that lost her whole family. Her family loved in a village, and were the type that didn't know how to travel outside of it. It was near 50 relatives, and apparantly it was her entire family. None of them have been found yet.

That would be absolutely horrific for her.

Many thanks for the concern, eveyone, but I'm fine. :) I was in Bangkok at the time, and didn't feel the quake or anything -- I didn't even know what had happened until I saw it on the news a few hours later. We left to go to Kaput island soon after, and just returned tonight, which is why I wasn't able to check in between then (no Internet connection on a small island in a 3rd world country, understand).

The news is certainly sad though... CNN just reported 67,000+ dead. And the scary part is that Phuket island, the hardest-hit place in Thailand, has a resort that I stayed at last time I was in Thailand. That was 5 years ago, but still... :scared:

Anyway, I probably won't be checking in until I arrive back in the states, because Internet connections are very expensive here. But thanks again for the concern!

THANK GOD!:dopey:

I'm glad your safe and didn't even feel the quake! 👍

I first was notified of this when I was at the cemetary with my family putting flowers on my grandpa's and grandma's and uncle's graves. That didn't help much. And at that time they said only 10,000 were dead and then that was a great number.

Good to hear you're okay Sage. I kinda figured it was the no internet deal thing going on.

Edit: I heard on the news today that communicable diseases are being predicted to almost double the death toll, which by my estimates would put it somewhere around 160,000 or so dead.

That earthquake/tsunami was crazy, I didn't believe it at first. Because of the magnitude and strength of it. I tried checkin with my grandparents and uncle over in Thailand, and I just learned that my grandfather didn't make it. It's a hard time right now at my house. Glad to hear that Sage and under18carbon. I hope the death toll goes no where near the 100.000 mark, but it will. My condolences go out to everyone who has lost loved ones.

BTW, the Navy has sent 11 ships to help with the relief effort, which I personally think was a great decision cause the people in Asia need all the help they can get. I strongly suggest everyone help out in the relief effort anyway can, it's a hard time for everybody, especially since it was so close to Christmas, it makes us think how fortunate we really are and how we take things for granted.

OH wow that is horrible. I just heard that Jet Li and a female Supermodel Petra Nemcova (model for victorias secret) over there were injured. Petra Nemcova was injured extremly bad with a broken pelvic bone. Jet Li was injured when trying to save his daughter.
I was watching the news last night and I just cant believe how far the wave traveled and how long it took to get there! Just a shame no one had time to prepare for it. The Tsunami specialists didnt even see the wave coming! There was no warning at all. :guilty:

It's 86.000 dead poeple at the time (and still counting)

Where did you get this information from?
Just about anywhere. Even comcast has it listed at over 84,000 Comcast.net
The death toll topped 84,000, with Indonesia worst affected, followed by Sri Lanka, India and Thailand. With tens of thousands still missing, that number was almost certain to grow, amid fears that disease could bring a new wave of deaths.

I was wondering about Bangladesh and Myanmar, they're almost directly north of where the tsunami started yet you didn't hear anything about that on the news - or at least, I didn't.

Things are bad and looking worse. :( If you ever wondered where the biblical story of the flood came from ...

EDIT: there's an add on GTPlanet about something with astma 'I feel like a fish with no water' or something. I'm afraid that image has acquired a bit of a bad taste atm.

Funny thing: right when I read that I checked the ad at the top of this page and guess what?

123000..... :guilty:

I said to the EO last night (here, which makes my prediction 24 hours old) that this would reach 200000 without an epidemic.....
