You mean like the deal Sega had with the SoR remake guys where Sega were formally informed long before it came out and Sega (the company so lax about this sort of thing that it has in three instances paid well known emulator makers/ROM hackers in the Sonic fanbase to develop ports of their games) did nothing then but had it pulled right after word started spreading around the internet of how good it was? The deal Fighting is Magic had where the show's creative staff gave it support and accolades and then it was shut down after it started getting widespread notoriety? Or even the formally-drafted legal arrangement that that group remaking Duke Nukem 3D had with Gearbox Software and Take2 Interactive before Gearbox shut it down anyway?

When it comes out and stays out, I'll believe it. Hasbro isn't Valve.

We both know that Sega has the aptitude of a very stupid hobo when it comes to stuff like that. This is an extraordinarily out-of-touch company; just recently they arbitrarily and systematically purged almost all trace of the Shining series from YouTube, including videos from well-known YouTubers such as Total Biscuit. They got a LOT of flak for that, and they probably won't do anything like it it again - but the point is, Sega's an incomparable example of that kind of thing, because they're so wildly inconsistent with it.

And the problem with Fighting Is Magic was probably the "fighting" element of it; Hasbro likely don't want that sort of thing filtering to the top of the search engines so that little girls are greeted with a violent beat-'em-up whenever they search for MLP - but Double Rainboom is supposed to be like a proper episode, and in exactly the same style as one of them. And seeing as it'll never be of the quality where it can compete with the official episodes, it's no threat to Hasbro; if anything, it's basically free promotion, and an entire episode made at no cost to them.

Or at least, that's what the Double Rainboom team have discussed with Hasbro, from what I can gather.

Only time will tell, I guess.

Yeah, I'd have to say a fighting game based on the series and another episode made entirely by fans are different enough. I've said a few times that taking the IP and going in a totally different direction with it is going to put you more at risk than doing something similar, with a series like this.

If it were some other show where the show itself is the primary source of revenue, then yeah, I could see that being a big issue, but that's not what MLP is.

If the entire purpose of the show is to sell toys, Hasbro would be outright stupid to refuse an episode produced entirely free of charge.

EDIT:Look, something adorable.

Anyway, looking forward to the fan episode. Should be a good one, by the looks of the trailer.

I'm feeling slightly uneasy listening to that track with Twilight staring vacant-eyed at me, eX.

Can't say much about the MiP melody other than it's not the strongest part of the song. But much of the rest of it is, again, better than your last track. It doesn't sound like it's missing anything like many of your previous songs were.

Sounds like Las Pegasus was an absolute cluster 🤬 When you piss off Tara Strong you know you dun goofed.

I thought what happened without the rumours was bad enough, but then those rumours turned out to be true which makes her reaction understandable along with those of the other guests. Now I feel they won't bother hosting Unicon again in the future, at least in Vegas.

I do feel for the special guests and even more so for the convention first-timers. I hope this meltdown hasn't put any of them off attending other Brony cons.

Hopefully it was just a one time thing. I'd hate for all of the other successful cons to take a hit because these guys couldn't keep their crap organized. Not having enough money is something you would likely be aware of weeks before the actual con, and if that's the case calls should've been made and ticket money refunded. If they didn't see the financial problems coming that makes them complete idiots. If they knew it was coming and didn't call that's even worse, though.

Whatever, I have a feeling this isn't, for Strong at least, the first time she's had a bad experience with some kind of convention, so this probably isn't the last time we'll see her attending one. As for all of the others, they seem like reasonable people, so they can probably recognize that this isn't common, and maybe future organizers will do more to show that they're organized and have the money lined up before the con actually happens.

Even with all of this, she's still being showered with love from fans on Twitter on the double, so I doubt she'd give up on all the fun she's claimed she's had in past cons over a single 🤬 up, even if it was a fairly sizable one.

So what I think is going to happen, tldr; Show staff are going to be more skeptical of future events, but will still attend, and Convention organizers will likely be more open about their level of preparedness to make attendees feel more confident.

What actually happened? I feel like I've skipped a lt of info somewhere.

An example of how not to host a convention

That was posted a couple of days ago at the end of the Las Pegasus Unicon. But a few of the special guests have tweeted about what they experienced since then, saying they ended up paying the expenses after being told it was all paid for, and joking about it like Cindy Morrow and M.A. Larson.

Cindy Morrow
@M_A_Larson hey you left a whole bunch of autograph vouchers in the Panel Room. Don't forget to get paid for those HA HA HA HA

I gotta say, it might be one of the best things. Look at the way people are helping out those who got screwed over by this. I might throw a few pounds over yonder once I get paid this week.

Is it just me, or have things been going really crazy in this fandom lately? We have Friendship Is Witchcraft being flagged, Fighting is Magic being shut down, alicorn drama (Although that should have died of now), and now the Unicon disaster. Just thought I'd make an observation. Hopefully this isn't some kind of cryptic foreshadowing or something, for something bigger.

I think many people realize it's been rough lately, but most of us are trying to focus on all the good that's been happening, as well.

It'll all pass Naveek.

I don't think I've used this word in this thread before, but that new ponyKillerX drawing magnificent. The background looks just like a spot about a 5 minute walk from here.
