Okay, that was decent. Good animation, okay plot, unnessecary crossover. Maybe one day, fan content will be indistinguishable from official works. At least somebody took a shot at it, with mixed results. I don't see the point of the crossover.

I think the closest we've come to that mark is Snowdrop, really.

The episode was incredibly over-hyped. I think I got caught up in the crowd when I watched the first 12 minutes.


I enjoyed the accidental implied TwiDash, but the episode on the whole was really kinda...average. Can't really even set it apart from normal stuff. The first Anthology stands out above that and the second totally blows it away. So now I go back to waiting for Anthology: Part III.

I'm not keen on the crossover and some of the memes/fandom jokes, since they weren't necessary or executed well enough for me to ignore them. Animation was good but inconsistent at times, especially with Twilight and her facial movements. Rainbow Dash just had the wrong voice altogether which was very noticeable early on, but I tuned it out by the second part.

I think the slack pace was the biggest problem though. The first part seemed to trundle along and the interaction between Dash and Twi took an age. If they had fixed it so that it moved at the same pace as one of the series episodes, then the running time would be roughly the same as those instead of being nigh on half an hour long.

Of course it was a good effort, and to try and make something that closely matches a show episode is a tall order. Maybe if someone ever plans another fan episode, they can take note of some of the critique for this one because I'd love to see something where those problems are ironed out.

It came out really well apart from the blurriness at full-size. I love the added detail though, plus this different style reminds me of the Fighting is Magic character art.

Quality of the rigs comes into it a lot, plus ponies have so few points of expression like people do, (eyebrows, lashes, lids, cheeks, lips, and a hundred other tiny muscles.)

We had a long conversation about this while working on Ponycraft, they aren't nearly as expressive in 3D as they are in 2D. :/

I think it came out well. The idea of the tail wrapping around the bottom left and the mane around the top right just kinda....happened, but I like it.

Also, can you believe it's been 2 whole years today since this thread was born? I remember what happened last year well and a lot has changed since then, much like it did in the first 12 months of this thread's existence. There's been a few highs and lows for both those I know and myself, but that hasn't stopped us doing what we enjoy. So I'm just going to say that I'm glad to have met the majority of the guys in here, and that the next year will be something to look forward to. Hell, I may even have a chance to meet some of you guys in the flesh soon by attending my second ever convention (not a Brony con though, which is still on my to-do list). I never thought I'd see the day I'd get that chance if I'm honest, so I hope it happens. Plus I'd like to be able to meet with a few others who post in here at some point in the future.

So yeah, hopefully we'll be enjoying season 4 or appreciating whatever art/music/videos the fandom creates a year from now, and look back on what we've already been through and how far we've come.

Well there are meetups in almost all areas of the US, including Florida. There's also a Grand Brony Gala in Riverview on June 29th. Try searching for any meetups closer to home if you want. Maybe you'll find more Brony activity over there than you expected.

I only know of one major Brony convention in the UK, and it's one of the 2 largest in Europe. It may be only a couple of hours away from me, but it would cost even more to pay for the entry fee and maybe stay a night than it would for MCM in London. The travel expenses may be greater for a trip to London, but at least I'd be able to meet up with friends and meet other Bronies like I did at the Midlands Comic Con the other month.




Anyway, I might be trying to save up over the next couple of months, but I can make an exception with this and take my wallet out early.

I've been checking to see if a second book would come out for months now, after seeing Artyl work on one of the pieces last Autumn. Turns out it's been out since mid-March, so I can't believe I missed it. It's a shame that JJ isn't contributing any of his art this time, and it would have been cool to see MrWes included, but it looks good anyway.
