Didn't seem that far removed from Progress or Half the Day is Night Luna (or, perhaps, a combination between the two) to be honest, and those are two of the more popular ones; so I think you are overplaying how much people will bitch about it.
The WOOOOOONNNNAAAA!!! people will probably be pissed, though.








I don't wanna be that guy, but I felt this episode was... sort of meh, actually. I liked Luna. I liked her "Talks like Frog from Chrono Trigger" way of speaking. I liked her smartass snarking that was only understandable if you thought about it. I liked her inability to communicate without using the Royal We. As far as her personality goes, I was actually really lucky because it more or less fits in well with my preferred fanon for her anyways.
I liked Pinkie Pie being Pinkie Pie. I thought Dash's role in the episode was great. I loved the Fluttershy scene. I liked the little fandom nods which may not have been intentional (Carrot Top/Derpy apple bobbing scene) but were funny as hell regardless. I laughed for a good 30 seconds when Twilight explained what she does best, because it was a fantastic little bit of self-parody. I really liked the role Zecora had in this episode. I loved Dragonception.



But I immediately had an intense loathing for that little bastard whose name I've already forgotten the instant he opened his mouth, the likes of which I had only felt before with Twist; and he kept coming back in the episode. I missed not seeing the CMC in the episode, which is probably one of the reasons why I hate the little bastard so much. No Rarity either also makes me disappointed, because I would liked to have seen what she went as and I really wanted to see all of the Mane Six interact with Luna.
And, honestly, there wasn't that much to the episode. It wasn't that funny outside a couple of scenes, but it wasn't that serious either. It was just kinda there.

@Toronado, From what I saw, I'd say it wasn't the best episode, but I enjoyed what I saw. The lack of Rarity was kinda disappointing, and as unit said earlier, the episode felt rather short. As for that little guy, I niether liked him or hated him really. Zecora, Derpy, Pinkie Pie being herself and those costume choices were great though.




And will this be Luna's catchphrase?

I only got a quick glimpse of Scootaloo in one of the Panic scenes. she was in a werewolf costume.
the kid now makes "pintos" and NORMALLY colored ponys canon. i bet they got some "not enough boys" feedback, too (there's only 6 or so males in the entire thing)

Someone metioned that on EqD earlier on. I suppose that might be part of the reason why Rarity didn't make an appearence.

The main issue I have with this is the NMM lore - It's...well, it doesn't fit with what we know already. I mean, at first, no-one knows who she is, and now they have all these crazy legends and stuff? and then there's that the Mane Six were THERE WHEN LUNA WAS FREED...Plothole much?

EDIT: Episode just started a second run on The HUB. My god I've already d'awwed only a few seconds in. Off to a very good start.

Also, I will be putting all of my thoughts on the episode as it happens in this post to avoid accidentally seeing anything that gives away details.


EDIT: I think Zecora might be taking it a bit far. The objective is to entertain with fear, not traumatize.


Also, remembere that person I told you was Pinkie Pie incarnate? Well someone asked if she was a bit old, she said, the same thing Pinkie Pie did, only worded a bit differently.


I think I'll be watching this episode many, many times just because of all the little things there are to be noticed. So many awesome costumes.

I just saw the episode.
I find it kind of strange that everyone was afraid of luna. Wouldn't the whole NMM situation make huge news and everyone would know what happened? Instead NMM was played as this mysterious legendary character that we know nothing about. I'd have no problme if it was just the majority of the ponies getting scared, but Fluttershy, AJ and Pinkie? Who were there? It all seems very strange to me.

Apart from that it wasn't a bad episode and I like luna. Her character makes a lot of sense to me.

Pinkie seemed to be doing it throughout the episode on purpose, and Fluttershy was... well, Fluttershy.




AJ's initial reaction did make me curious for a bit, but she got over it pretty quickly once she realized it wasn't actually Nightmare Moon.

Well of course Fluttershy was still afraid. And AJ was only afraid for a second, and Pinkie knew she wasn't a threat, but she still just thought it was fun to act scared.

Anyway, Luna's voice might just be my favorite in the series. Of all of the ponies.
