The true hometown of the Simpsons

I've been hearing lots of different answers to this, but i dunno what to believe. I think its Kentucky because of the episode "Behind the Laughter". What do you think?

and there's the episode where Homer and others smuggle sugar from south of the border and Homer says "You mean Tennessee?"

I always thought it was Springfield, Illinois.

I have heard that the creators chose Springfield because there's a Springfield in nearly every state in the U.S. They wanted the Simpsons to be an "anytown" kind of family.

Those were Jokes. Like when Marge is about to say it and she says "Springfield O Hi Maude," (the joke is that you were supposed to think she was going to say Ohio. Get it? Eh?). So I doubt they'd tell you in one episode and then act like it's an unknown. It's an ongoing gag. Risingson77 has it, in my opinion.

You might recall that was from the 'behind the scenes' episode where the characters of the Simpsons were portrayed as 'real-life' actors, so it doesn't really apply.

All you need to do is find a small to medium sized town that's next to the ocean, with a lake, a large mountain, a nuclear powerplant, a gorge....

Haha, I saw that episode yesterday and it made me think of this thread.

So I think it is based on a multitude of American towns.

I saw an episode where they were leaving town, and it showed one of those signs that point in different direction, telling which way to go to what town,.... it was intentially made to be confusing,...

If I remember correctly, it said something along the lines of " ------------> to Texas, California, Montana, and Florida"

Not EXACTLY like that,. but was intended to show the viewer that they had NO intenetion of telling you were Springfield REALLY is,... I doubt there is a correct answer.

I thought I read that the writer for the Simpsons was origanlly from Springfield, Mass. but that in no way helps in finding out where the Simpsons actually are.

Even if you've listened to all the episodes; one day it's got a beach, another time it has expressways, and then it only has one major bridge. And then it has 3 downtown areas...

One thing's for certain, Springfield's not a place on a map, it's a place in our hearts.

The Simpsons, well, aren't real. I think the writers just adapted the name Springfield. They didn't mean Illinois or anything.

it is true, but that springfeild (same springfield Dr. Suess is from) is mostly a giant ghetto with many budget cuts in the last year, no nuke power, plant, no mountains, (closest Mt. is Mt. Tom about 15-20 or so miles away (should be called MT. Hill cause that all it really is), and lastly no lake. SO i beleive the writer just used the name and added everything else. o, i know this becuase i live in West Springfield, Mass.

i've seen evry ep (i'm not kidding, i've been raised on simpsons) so far there have been two clues i've seen
1) when they go to brazil and lisa talks about finding the clues (not really a hint, just a reference)
2) the kentucky thingy, "this northern kentucky family"
so who knows
